Song recommendations for fishing trips!

This summer, I’ve been getting into fishing more often and wanted to put together a playlist for my next trip. I’m looking for songs that fit the laid-back, peaceful vibe of being out on the water.

Of course, “The Dock of the Bay” comes to mind, but I’m open to anything country, blues, rock, jazz, hip-hop, or something completely different. What songs belong on a good fishing playlist? Any suggestions appreciated!

8/9/26 | Week 45 Playlist Competition Winners

We're back with another week of spectacular playlist spotlights, and we also have some exciting news! With the help of our awesome community, we’ve finally created a website just for cross- platform music sharing!

Cassette.tech

As always, post your original curated playlist into our community under any flair and it will automatically be entered into the competition!

Huge thank you to everyone who shares playlists and keeps the sub active, you’re the reason these spotlights are possible. And if you come across a playlist you love, don’t forget to show it some upvote love!

First Place Winner: u/businesssocks101 “Musical Atlas - One Song From Every Country”

This week's first-place winner is u/businesssocks101. This playlist, aptly named “Musical Atlas,” consists of one song from every country in the world, following an alphabetical sequence of countries. Rather than being a random collection of songs, it is a carefully-curated playlist with seamless transitions to guide the listening experience. If you are looking to expand your music taste, this is an amazing playlist to do just that.

Persefone’s “Consciousness, Pt. 1 (Sitting in Silence)” from Andorra is an introspective instrumental piece that blends perfectly into the vocals in “Mona Ki Ngi Xica” by Bonga, an Angolan singer and songwriter. This blend between vocals and instrumentals throughout the playlist reflects a purposeful curation of songs from each country. Throughout the playlist there are more mainstream songs to ground the listener. One such is “Wavin’ Flag” by K’NAAN, will.i.am, and David Guetta, a Somalian song well-known from the 2010 World Cup. If you want to “travel” the world through music, put on this highly curated playlist.

Second Place Winner: u/Comfortable-Dare-479 "Feel Good Rock & Indie Pop Classics"

This week's second-place winner goes to u/Comfortable-Dare-479. This playlist contains 28 iconic rock and indie pop songs. The overall laid-back vibes of the songs make it perfect for a relaxing listen to go down memory lane. This playlist, “Feel Good Rock & Indie Pop Classics,” features timeless classics that makes it a good listen at any time.

To capture a nostalgic feeling, this playlist is largely infused with mainstream songs. It starts off with Counting Crows’ “Mr. Jones” to establish a retro vibe. Some highlights are the 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up?” and Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”. These songs, beloved by many, take you back to nostalgic summers. This playlist features songs by lots of familiar names such as Train, the Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. If you need a quick mood boost, want to relive childhood summers, or want to listen to familiar hit songs, give this playlist a listen.

Best songs to crash out to?

My typical music taste is pretty mellow and chill, but every once in a while I just need a playlist to angry cry to. Any song with an emotional storyline – especially with a crash out-worthy bridge/climax – would be perfect. Any genre is welcome!

Please give me (a writer) song recommendations to get into the head of my character.

Hopefully this is permissible. 🙏

Hello,

I hope this post finds you well.

As the title says, I’m trying to get into the head of a character that’s very different than myself and am hoping the right playlist will help with authenticity.

Character details -

—early Millennial (born early-mid 80s)

—born and raised Midwest US (Great Lakes)

—religious immigrant parents who came from poverty, worked hard, and now are comfortably middle class

—emotionally distant workaholic image-conscious strict but well-meaning father

—overworked anxious image-conscious strict but well-meaning SAHM

—character is the second son (middle child)

—elder brother is the “golden child/hero” who kinda gets away with everything because he is the first born, very charismatic, things come to him easily, etc (Raymond from 2005 film C.R.A.Z.Y. meets Darian from 2016 The Edge of 17); he exasperates/has friction with the parents because he does not subscribe to the restrictions of their culture/religion; he is often the parental focus

—youngest siblings are quite a bit younger twin daughters, the “mascots/lost children”

—the character is the family “peacemaker/caregiver”, doing the bulk of emotional labor and mediating, as well as the kind of practical caregiving that often goes unnoticed; he is the foil to his brother, the “good proper son” who never causes trouble, who compensates by being the steady, reliable, emotionally attuned one

—the character both cherishes and despises the family role he fell into; he neglects his own needs/wants and puts immense pressure on himself to be “the best” (most devoted son, strongest student, greatest helper at their place of worship, etc), manifesting in somatic anxiety symptoms (including eventually panic attacks)

Setting is him in high school and college in the 90s/00s.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to contribute. 🙏

What are your go-to songs for a late-night walk?

What are some song suggestions for late-night walks? I’m looking for slower 70s blues/jazz music. Lately, I've been taking late-night walks while listening to slow-tempo music, which helps me relax very satisfyingly after a long day.

Let me know your recommendations below. Can't wait to hear your responses!

Give me songs that remind you of NYC

Hi, I’m making a playlist based off of songs that give me the same aesthetic as nyc. I’m kind of going for a sex and the city and jazzy theme to the playlist so anything like that would help!!

First Place Winner: u/Repulsive_Olive_4210 "Classic Country Songs 60s 70s 80s"

This week's first-place winner is u/Repulsive_Olive_4210. This playlist consists of 60 of the most iconic country songs. Even though I do not listen to country often, this playlist creates a warm ambiance that is really comforting to listen to. The storytelling apparent in each song infuses the playlist with emotion. With the simple instruments, raw vocals are able to shine through. As country often does, this playlist transported me back in time with its jukebox and vintage vibes, providing instant comfort and nostalgia.

This playlist starts off the bat with John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” This quintessential country song emanates pure American joy. Sprinkled throughout are household names such as Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Kenny Rogers. This creates a sense of familiarity and incorporates some of my personal favorites, including Parton’s “Jolene.” This playlist has a good blend of upbeat and more laid back songs. Diana Heras’ “I Go out Walking After Midnight” is a slower song that makes you feel like you’re slowdancing under the starry sky. Contrarily, Ann Shepard’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” brings up the mood with a stronger beat and upbeat lyrics. If you ever feel like going down memory lane, don’t forget to put this playlist on for the ultimate sense of nostalgia.

Second Place Winner: u/__Christie__ "Wave of the Week"

Second place this week goes to u/__Christie__. This playlist, with 50 songs, provides nearly 3 hours of music in the modern hip-hop realm. Blending R&B, alternative hip-hop, neo-soul, and even indie pop, this playlist is a well-curated mix that incorporates many genres. With songs highlighting anything from iconic vocals to groovy instruments, this playlist will never seem dull. Listening to this playlist feels like you’re cruising down the highway late at night.

This playlist is largely infused with songs with a more laid back feel such as Brent Faiyaz’s “pure fantasy.” and Rich Brian’s “Tear.” We see a lot of mainstream artists such as Steve Lacy, SZA, and Travis Scott, but also get some underground artists like Liim and Ceebo. This creates a nice mix of known music and new music, making it the perfect listen to expand your music taste. To break up the overall chill vibes, sprinkled in are upbeat songs to keep the energy up. This includes a couple of my favorite songs: “Cuff It” by Beyoncé and “Hey Ya!” by Outkast. Next time you are going on a late night drive, be sure to put this playlist on.

Songs about "I know your ex is sexy, but do NOT get back together with him"

I have a friend, and you'll never guess what I'm trying to stop her from doing!!! So far, I've found "Jesse" by Carly Simon and "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette. But I'm sure there are more out there.

I'm not too picky on genres — I like most forms of Rock, R&B, and Metal; she likes Pop and Rock.
