First Place Winner: u/Glittering-Chemist68 “Love with a relapse problem”
This week's first-place winner is u/Glittering-Chemist68. This playlist captures the feeling of love, longing, and heartbreak in its 11 hour runtime. It is “built around that specific, heavy feeling of a trauma bond-the constant highs, the lows, and the struggle of trying to untangle yourself from someone when leaving hurts just as much as staying.” Each track blends beautifully into the next, creating a sonic atmosphere that you can easily disappear into for hours on end.
This playlist highlights mainstream artists such as Drake, The Neighborhood, Laufey, and Frank Ocean, giving listeners a sense of familiarity. Some of my favorites on this playlist are Conan Gray’s “Memories” and Lana del Ray’s “Summertime Sadness.” These capture the essence of the playlist that is emotional pop. At the same time, songs such as “Duniyaa” by Akhil and “アニョハセヨ” (Annyeonghaseyo) by Yuki Chiba incorporate other languages into the mix, adding another layer of depth. Whether you need a playlist to be an emotional outlet or just one to vibe to, “Love with a relapse problem” won’t disappoint.
Second Place Winner: u/Anythings_Poss_Music "Dark, Ambient and Drone"
This week's second-place winner goes to u/Anythings_Poss_Music, This playlist, with 107 songs, provides over 6 hours of vocal-free ambient music. Zerofuturism’s “Wires or Vines” starts off the playlist by immediately creating an atmosphere that surrounds you in calmness. Listening to this playlist feels like you are just a speck floating around in space, completely isolated from everything else.
Songs such as Bloedwolfe’s “To an End” ground the playlist in this ambience of smooth sounds that slow down time. However, throughout the playlist there are songs that bring in more notes and whimsy. In particular, “heal the world.” by blue serenity and “First Snowfall” by The Mo Winds add a more dynamic feel. All in all, this playlist, “Dark, Ambient and Drone,” is perfect for when you need to escape the quick pace of everyday life and want to just breathe.
Week 41 has officially begun! Post your favorite playlists to be featured in next week's contest 7/12!!!
