Subwoofer swapped

Used the Soonish kit, plus their recommended sub* and amp combo. Their install video was priceless, walks you through every detail. For the price it’s absolutely worth it - I’d say the sound is 40% better. Rivian door speakers no longer have to try and makes much bass, and the subwoofer provides a clean, deep, even bass floor. I’m not looking for thump, just confident clean bass. Soundstage and everything else still kinda stinks…

*they recommend the 4ohm sub. I somehow got the 2ohm. Either way, the amp is stable at 2ohms and actually matches the RMS of the subwoofer at 300watts.

Took about 5 hours, I went very slow and deliberate, especially popping off trim. Plus a 30 min stop to read up on ohms and watts and make sure I was good with the 2ohm vs 4ohm. Conclusion: 100% good.

Tips and tricks:

Empty your sub trunk so you can sit on the edge. Way more room to work.

The rear passenger seat bolts take some serious muscle to loosen. And there’s a bolt hidden behind the air ducting that’s a PIA to get to. It’s in the video.

The Keyloc system says to flatten your EQ when you train it. I chose to reduce the last 2 bass sliders about 1/3, so the Rivian speakers aren’t trying too hard and the sub can handle those hz

Reset the car after install. Mine wouldn’t go into deep sleep, so the amp was drawing power continuously. Once the car sleeps the amp turns itself off. Thanks to Soonish for helping me troubleshoot!

Subwoofer swapped. Kicker amp always on. DC Offset troubleshooting?

Installed the Soonish Tubthumper kit in my Gen2 R1s with the Kicker 500.1 amp (I have the amp loose on the floor while testing). I have yet to see the amp turn off. In the morning it was very warm to the touch. So I left the car sitting for 2 hours, not plugged in, gear guard off, approached with no phone, glanced in the window, and could see the power light on the Kicker. So it's never detected the state to do it's auto turn off.

  1. Rivian always sending a signal to the speakers?
  2. Amp is defective?

I'm just wary of having this thing sit there and suck power 24/7 making waste heat and possibly compromising low voltage battery life.

Edit: on another note. Having a decent sub helps quite a lot with the sound. It's nice to hear bass that's not flappy and muddy. I'd say it's worth the $$ for sure.

7 days. Just some ramblings.

3rd longest I've been sober in maybe 10 years.

First week of outpatient down. It's a 12 step based program and they want us to attend at least 2 AA meetings weekly. I don't know where I'm supposed to find the time on top of work, family, 2 hours of outpatient (3 hrs with driving back and forth)...I guess 6:30am weekends? Hopefully I can find a meeting with a more secular approach to AA. I didn't go from southern baptist to atheist without a lot of deconstruction.

Anyhow. Feel ok, still in the pink cloud. Head is clear and body feels centered. Costco pharmacy is out of stock on the anti-craving medication the Dr prescribed (Campral).

Wishing you filthy lot a fine Sunday.

The amount of bleeps and bloops with Assistant are a bit much

They could be quieter too. Like the turn signal which is very chill. Anyone else?

Welp, just got signed up for intensive outpaitent

Waiting on call from Dr to discuss medical dextox, and then I go in Monday. I can still work and then do either day or night sessions. They think in my case it will work, based on my intake questions and answers.

No more chairs!

It's simply all the odds and ends that are annoying to source; you have to buy your own sub and amp (which they give links to for their suggestion). There's a useful YT video that walks you through the whole thing: no trial and error pulling panels off and figuring out where things are. Should make for a quick weekend project.

My wife got me a 1930 Rockwell Kent, in a rebind. I mentioned it here before when peeped at a rare book store, and she snuck around me and bought it.

Anyhow. It’s authentic, everything is spot on. However it has deckle edges. I did some A/B pics of my other 1930 first trade edition. The right margin is slightly wider… so were most copies shaved to have a clean edge?

I asked on /rarebooks and that’s the best guess. Whoever did this custom bind got a deckle edge set of the print?
