Inner tie rod removal

2011 Nissan xterra pro4x

Im trying to remove the inner tie rod and everything I see says I need to lock the steering rack in place before trying to pry loose the tie rod. I have 2 problems. I don’t have a fixed wrench large enough to fit on the flats at the end of the rack. I have an adjustable wrench on there which I don’t really trust cause it kept slipping off when trying to remove the outter by locking the inner with it. Second, even if this will work, the flats on the steering shaft are so close to the flats on the inner tie rod that I can’t get the tie rod tool locked over the crows foot adapter with that locking wrench in place. Google is telling me I don’t need to lock the shaft if I turn the steering wheel to either pull the shaft all the way in or all the way out because the shaft has an internal locking mechanism but I’m not sure I trust that advice. So do I need to lock the shaft or not? And how do I go about this? I’m really not trying to damage my steering rack, I’ve already got a lot of money tied up in this project. (Replacing the whole front end) Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

My uncle thinks he’s a detailer now.

My uncle got a job washing cars at some hole in the wall used car dealership and now thinks he’s a detailer. Completely ruined the paint on my mom’s car. Any advice on how to remedy this? What products to use, methods? Even just a starting point on what exactly needs to be done so I can do some research and try to restore this for her. Most of the scratches don’t seem that deep and the swirling is mainly on the trunk and door pillar. 2011 Cadillac CTS. Thanks!

Should I hold out for a better price on this die grinder?

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M12-FUEL-12V-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-1-4-in-Right-Angle-Die-Grinder-Kit-w-5-0-Ah-2-5-Ah-Batteries-3485-22/334216387

Looking to get this right angle die grinder for a couple projects but wondering if I could possibly get it cheaper down the road. It’s hackable down to $280 including tax. I won’t need it for a couple months at least so I can wait but wondering if it’s worth holding out for, or if this thing regularly goes cheaper? I like this kit cause it has the exact 2 batteries I’m looking for but I kinda feel like I’m being impulsive. What do ya think? Better deal to be had before winter?

Tools

Anyone buy tools on RA? Sometimes I’ll throw in a random socket or extension I may not have but need if I’m placing an order, not really caring about the quality or price. But I’m looking for an angle grinder, not really for cutting , more for sanding. I’m just wondering if they have quality tools and great prices like their auto parts, or if they’re just shitty tools. I’d imagine it would be difficult to make any returns if it turns out to be a piece of crap. Would I be better off shopping at the big box stores or direct from the manufacturer for something like an angle grinder? I’m not looking to spend a lot or have a top quality grinder, just want something that will last. Do they update inventory on tools with different brands very often? Right now the selection is minimal.

Experienced mechanics for engine work S. Mpls.

I am having some difficulty with my engine after going to an absolute nightmare of a shop in Bloomington. I believe they have caused some damage but do not trust them to fix their own mistakes. I am looking for someone with experience in major engine work, not a brake pad or oil change type of shop. Preferably somewhere close to south mpls and somewhere trustworthy that won’t try to milk my situation as I am currently out of work. Also if they are willing to let me bring my own parts that would be great. From my research so far I am considering Parents, Dunrite or Alexander’s. Does anyone have experience with these shops as it relates to the above specifications. Or any other shops I may have overlooked? If you are aware of hourly labor rates that would be helpful to include as well. Appreciate any suggestions or advice, I’m kinda in between a rock and a hard place right now. TIA

Please help me diagnose a whining noise under the hood

2011 Nissan Pro 4X 119k miles.

I noticed this noise after replacing the thermostat and heater hose assembly. The water pump was removed and cleaned as well as an oil change about a week prior but did not notice the sound until just yesterday after replacing therm, heater hose and refilling coolant. Sounds like power steering but the steering seems fine and the noise doesn’t seem to react to steering. Pitch changes slightly momentarily when accelerating but doesn’t get much louder. Much louder in the video, can barely hear it inside the car while driving. Any ideas on what I can check? TIA
