England - Potential Civil Penalty From JSA?

I'm in England, I lost my job last year and lived on savings until 12th March this year. On 12th March I submitted claims for Universal Credit and Jobseeker's allowance. Both were being paid according to their schedules (JSA every 2 weeks, UC every month). When attending Jobcentre for my first JSA appointment they said that I would only need to meet with my UC work coach and that the UC work coach should keep JSA updated with any updates to my status. On 25th May I started a self employed job (40hrs a week). On the 28th May I sent a message in my UC journal saying:

>Hello, I have started self employed taxi driving this week (Monday 25th May). I am not sure where to update this to ensure everyone (UC/ JSA) is made aware or what the next steps are regarding UC claim etc.

They replied:

>You will need to report a change of circumstances in your UC account under work and earnings, put yourself as self employed and then we will book you a Gateway appointment to go through everything with you. This appointment is usually an hour long.

To me, the above exchange meant that I had informed both UC and JSA of my new job.

On 4th June I received a payment from JSA which I assumed was just any remaining payout I was eligible for.

On 16th June I had a phone call from JSA at my local Jobcenter checking up on my claim as they were saying it was still active. I told them about my new job and they said that I'd likely receive a civil penalty as I didn't inform them of my new circumstances soon enough and had accepted an overpayment. I told them what UC had said and they said that didn't matter and the penalty was still likely.

I've since received another payment from JSA on 18th June.

I'm not sure what to do here, I know I need to pay back the over payments but I don't think that I should be liable for the civil penalty when I was told by UC that all I needed to do was update them.

Weaponised "Worrying"

Context: I'm pretty sure my mother is a narcissist. I really value my personal space and live alone, I generally try to stay off my phone and it's common for me to take a few hours to pick up messages/ reply.

Something that's bugging me about my mother's behaviour is that if she needs something from me she will ring my phone constantly until I answer, I'm talking calling every 5 minutes until I answer. Every time I've asked her to stop her default reason is that she was "worried" about me. "Worried" because I didn't reply to a text for an hour, "Worried" that I wasn't reachable for half a day. It feels to me like she's using "worrying" not to express concern for me but as an excuse for her incessant bothering, like I've made her "worried" by not being immediately available.

I just wanted to vent and see if anyone else has had this before and been able to set proper boundaries around communcation.

Which character are YOU?

Being honest... as much as I'd like to see myself as a competent, quick-witted Malcolm who doesn't give shit or a calm/collected professional like Dan Miller, I think I'm probably closest to Ben Swain. I'm fat, awkward in front of people and easily fall for people's tricks, I even have a slight nervous blink :(... Who do you think you are?

How to manage income/expenses as a taxi driver

Hi Folks, I've recently started as a taxi (private hire) driver and wonder if anyone has any advice for keeping my money in check.

I pay the firm a set amount each week to rent the car and be "on the system". I pay this in cash once a week.

I keep 100% of my takings but they can be in a few different forms:

  • Cash
  • SumUp card machine linked to a sumup business account
  • Account jobs where my firm bills the customer directly then takes it off my weekly rent.

I often get tips from cash and card payers as well.

My main expense is diesel which I fill up a couple of times a week and keep the receipt.

In my previous job I got paid a set amount monthly and that was easy to sort out, with this I'm struggling to get a grip on how much I'm actually making etc.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

What's something you thought was useless to learn in school but turned out very useful?

For me it's the long and boring "reading comprehension" exercises we were made to do where you read a passage of text then have to answer questions about it. Was boring AF doing them but I believe they helped massively with patience when reading things to get all the information and make sure you understand it.

QNAP Static IP

Does anyone here run gluetun in QNAP container station with a qnet static IP?

I'm connecting to ProtonVPN and the connection works flawlessly with:

services:
  gluetun3:
    image: qmcgaw/gluetun:latest
    container_name: gluetun3
    cap_add:
      - NET_ADMIN
    devices:
      - /dev/net/tun:/dev/net/tun
    environment:
      - TZ=Europe/London
      - UPDATER_PERIOD=24h
      - VPN_SERVICE_PROVIDER=protonvpn
      - VPN_TYPE=wireguard
      - BLOCK_MALICIOUS=off
      - WIREGUARD_PRIVATE_KEY=myPK
      - PORT_FORWARD_ONLY=on
      - VPN_PORT_FORWARDING=on
      - SERVER_COUNTRIES=United Kingdom
    restart: unless-stopped

But once I add:

    networks:
      static-container-net:
        ipv4_address: 192.168.88.65
networks:
  static-container-net:
    name: qnet-containers-static
    external: true

to the end it takes 5/6 attempts to connect

Has SP changed in the past year?

Around April last year I left my SP consulting job and decided to take some time for myself. I feel like I'm ready to get back into it with a bit of contracting so wondering if there are any major changes or advancements I've missed in the past year? My SP specialities were around document management, EDRM, migrations, search, Purview and all kinds of other things.
