Working vets: would you take over another vet's established practice? Why or why not?

An established vet in our community is looking to add a second vet to her private practice in the hopes of retiring in the next decade or so. Apparently this has been a super hard sell and I'm trying to help problem solve. What are your thoughts?

Thank you to whomever posted this Samsung washer solution!

Like so many other folks, we have a Samsung washer that started going off balance on every load literally within a month of the end of the warranty. I was so confused because it had never happened in the four years prior and suddenly it was happening with every load. The only way to avoid it seemed to be washing smaller loads on extra high, which was a waste of time and water. Not to mention if you don't stop the cycle and readjust the load it would keep filling itself up over and over.

A couple months ago I read this solution posted by another redditor and it took this long for me to get brave enough to try it. After drilling the second hole water started pouring out of the holes. I only did four holes total and I'm estimating about a gallon of water came pouring out!! I have washed two loads so far and they've both spun out perfectly!! I'm mad at myself for not trying it sooner. But we were on the verge of replacing it, which we really can't afford right now, so we had to try something. Hope it helps someone else!

Traditional Bostons vs. Crosstown/CT?

My Bostons are out of commission. (I had them resoled and my feet have grown and are no longer a 40.) I'm looking to replace them, and I'm considering the CTs over the traditional Bostons. Anybody have both and have a preference?

Good news/Bad news

A couple months back I posted a picture of my very first ever Birkenstocks which I bought over 20+ years ago. Bostons, upper was still in fabulous shape and I sent them to RMB .com to have a new footbed and sole put on.

Good news!: I got them back today. They were actually ready about 2 weeks ago but I asked him to wait to send them because we were going on vacation.

Good news!: they're so perfect. I had the footbed replaced and the vibram sole put on. I'm so in love with them they're gorgeous!

Bad news!!: my foot has grown quite a bit in 20 years. 🤣 Even though I was wearing these before I sent them, like literally the day before I sent them. And even though I was wearing thick, wool socks with them in the winter, they are at least a whole size too small in their rebuilt form.

I AM SO SAD!!!

No fault of Michelangelo's whatsoever. This is the second pair I've sent to him and I couldn't be happier. Fortunately I have a kid who is one shoe size behind me so I guess he's going to inherit these. I'm just so heartbroken that I can't wear them again. 😩 But maybe that means it's okay to buy myself a new pair???

Update on my dog's injuries and the "kennel" situation

I removed the post after an urgent care visit tonight. It seems she may have much more serious injuries than just the ones we can see. I'm sick and beside myself. The sitters are denying they knew or noticed any of her injuries so there's no telling how far this is going to go. Thank you all for your advice and support. 💗🐾

Dog came home with multiple bites and wounds after 8 night stay.

Let me start by saying she's on antibiotics and pain meds. I work for a vet clinic, called them after hours, and picked up meds until they can get hands/eyes on her on Monday. She's eating just fine, peeing as normal, seems a bit uncomfortable trying to poop.

And please be kind. This is the first time I've used a Rover sitter and the first time I've left this particular dog with anyone. I need to know if this is normal and I'm overreacting or if I need to report this. I've worked in a shelter and currently work for a vet, so I know how dogs can act in unfamiliar/stressful circumstances. Plus my dogs are lazy couch dogs and the kennel setup was probably more like camping than a hotel vacation for them.

Trying to make this as short as possible: I left two dogs, both with mild health issues and medications, for an 8 night stay while we were on vacation. Sitters have multiple kennels in two outbuildings connected by a shared fenced in yard. They claim they only let dogs out together who've come together. So my dogs shouldn't have been out with any other dogs. (The only reason this is an issue is because they both have conditions that require them to be mostly chill. They shouldn't be running and wrestling for long periods of time.) I told them I didn't have issues with them playing with other dogs for short periods of time if they felt they were getting along okay, but I was assured that's not their policy. Because of their health issues they haven't been to daycare or around other dogs in several years.

Both dogs seemed stunned and exhausted when I showed up, which is understandable. But I expected they'd be excited to see us and they seemed more fearful than anything.

They smelled terrible, which is also understandable for the amount of time they were there. I started bathing them and realized the female's hind legs are absolutely covered in small bite marks. One is a very clear, full mouth-shaped bite. All of her feet/toes are swollen. But she's also a jumper, like Tigger. She can jump straight up from a seated position. It's possible she spent the week jumping on concrete. (I brought two different beds knowing this was the set up. She destroyed one sometime around day 3-4.) They both have those scabby patches on their elbows that they didn't have when I dropped them off.

She also has large sores inside both sides of her jowls, like she was continuously gnawing on something abrasive.

I guess I'm wondering if, under normal circumstances, dogs not used to playing rough in a kennel setting like this could be this banged up? Even though they said they wouldn't put her out with other pups, I wouldn't mind if she was having fun, but this seems like overkill. Like she may have been left with another dog for a long period of time. These sitters (husband and wife couple) have hundreds of positive reviews and repeat clients. They're constantly full and I felt lucky to get in with them. The reviews are what convinced me they would be in good hands. But now I'm sick with guilt imagining what she went through this past week.

How do I get ahold of Crown Reef??

****UPDATE: Found a number (of all places!) on the Better Business Bureau website that connected me directly to the front desk. All hail Shanté for getting me everything I needed in a matter of minutes. Unless this is the best vacation I ever been on in my entire life I can't imagine I'll be booking with them again. No legit place should be this much of a hassle.

843-626-8077

I know I'm going to get crap for booking there in the first place so you can save your thumb muscles. I have tried multiple phone numbers and emails and I cannot get a response from this place!! We're scheduled to arrive next Tues and it's been radio silence after at least 2 weeks if trying to get in touch with someone. Any suggestions? Specifically from people who claim they go there frequently? Thanks!

Do you find shoe sizing/measurements to be accurate?

Obviously I prefer shopping online for most things, but shopping for shoes for my wide-footed teenager is a nightmare. I do not understand most measurements. His foot measures approximately 27 cm, which almost every name brand size chart considers a 9-10.5. But his last few pairs of shoes have ranged from 10.5 -12. There is no way I can buy a 9 XW and believe it will fit. But according to measurements Skechers and New Balance would be massively too big. Taking him shoe shopping in person is a nightmare. He doesn't last long before he gets irritated and frustrated. I'm tempted to order 4 different sizes from DSW and just return whatever doesn't fit.

Super sad the Mogamis don't work for me - similar suggestions?

Anyone have the Mogamis and love them? I was so excited for them and now I'm suffering.

I'll spare you a pic of the 1.5" (3.8cm for my metric friends) blood blister on the outside of my heel.

Honestly I think the polyurethane foot beds just aren't for me. I had an old school pair of Arizona birkis and had this issue, too, but not nearly as severe.

I have insanely flat feet. Birks are the only sandals I can wear straight out of the box that feel perfect. We've started camping over the past few years and I'm finding all of my waterproof shoes just don't give me the support I need. I end up with intense ankle and arch pain from just setting up camp. Last summer I bought a pair of Mogamis and they actually arrived during a close-to-home camping trip. I drove home, threw them on and headed back to camp!

Huge mistake.

I'm assuming it's because the footbeds aren't malleable like regular Birks. My ankles were screaming in agony. Then the blisters started on the outside of both heels.

Yesterday we went to an all day music festival and I thought, surely they weren't as bad as I remember!! It'll be nice to have the support all day without worrying about ruining by regular Birks. AND they looked cute with my outfit.

NOPE! NO NO NO NOPE!

I knew I had a blister (only on the left this time! That's an improvement, right??) But a few mins ago my son said, "Wow, Mom. You really did get a blister yesterday!" Yeah, he's not kidding. Huge blood filled blister on the left heel. 😫

I'm guessing I'll sell these and try something new. I know Chacos don't work for me. Just wondering what other waterproof sport sandals Birkenstock wearers have and love. Thanks!!!

How do you prefer to receive/store meds?

Hello! We're using a Rover sitter to board our dogs for the first time. They each take several pills daily. What's the easiest way to divide that up? Pill organizer? baggie each meal separately? (That would be insane, please don't say that's the answer!) We also have one dog on Gabapentin "as needed", but he rarely ever needs it. How do you prefer owners package meds for you?

Thanks!

I'm taking Mother's Day back!

I'm tired of being angry and disappointed every Mother's Day. I'm going to start celebrating my friends and Moms in my circle in lieu of these dudes who just can't get it together. I say from now on we use Mom's Day as a day to celebrate each other. If the guys join in, cool. But even if they don't we can still feel loved and recognized. Now that my kids are bigger I'm going to start planning a Mother's Day bonfire or something the Saturday before. We can all dance around the fire and howl into the night.

I accidentally bought tix for the 6/6 VA Beach show when I needed 6/5 Raleigh. (Don't ask how. It just happened.) But it looks like seats are still wide open. And of course ticketmaster is offering me $100 less to resell. I have them listed on tick picks, but wondering if shows ever sell out and what are the chances of me getting my money back?

I posed this question to some friends recently. They're all single/no kids, so I'm not sure they could relate:

I'm 50. Married 17 years, 2 kids 15m and 11m. I pick up/clean up/transport for people constantly and the three of them barely act like I exist. I'm fed up.

At the same time I'm definitely having basic symptoms of perimenopause so it's easy to blame my "attitude" on those changes.

But is that the problem??? I'm not sure. I think I'm just pissed and fed up.

One friend who has her PhD said the change in hormones makes us care less about other's reactions because we're no longer looking for a mate. I still just think I'm pissed and fed up.

Thoughts?

Whenever we see someone in an RV towing their car behind them My husband loses his mind. He wants to know why folks don't tow on a trailer? He believes it puts so many more miles on your tires. I told him there must be a logical reason or else everyone would be doing it. I assume it's simple convenience and probably to avoid towing the additional weight. But I thought I'd ask the pros. Thanks! (And no, I don't know why he cares or why it bothers him so much.)
