Neurotransmitter-precursor foods?

Does anyone have pointers/experience on foods that are precursors to neurotransmitters?
I am curious about the issue, and have done some research online, but it seems either very vague, or at a technical level above my literacy.

Prompts already accompanied by scientific sources will get double brownie points in my eyes, but I'm fully prepared to do the grunt work on my own, if you only have time for the prompt :)

Thanks for your attention!

Neurotransmitters-precursor food?

Hello!

Does anyone have pointers on what foods are precursors to neurotransmitters?
I have done some research online, but it seems either very vague, or at a technical level above my literacy.

The only scientific pointer I have so far is to look into tryptophan-rich food (chocolate, legumes, dried fruit, cereals), but I don't want to overlook anything.

will seek science-based backing for any recommendation I receive, so if you have sources handy they'll be most welcome, but I'm fully prepared to do the grunt work on my own :)

Thanks!

Neurotransmitter-precursor foods (weaning off SSRIs)? :)

Hoihoi!
I've been on a (light?) dose of SSRIs for about 18 months, and have started to phase them out

I was encouraged from my therapist (not well-versed in nutrition) to increase in my diet the presence of foods that are precursors to neurotransmitters in order to "soften" the switch, and help my brain help me.
I have done some research online, but it seems either very vague, or at a technical level above my literacy.

My GP suggested foods tryptophan-rich (chocolate, legumes, dried fruit, cereals), but also recognized it's not really their area of expertise.

Has anyone had experience with a similar (doctor's) recommendation and/or is nutrition literate enough to recommend more articulate ideas on what foods to include more of in my diet?
will seek science-based backing for any recommendation I receive, so if you have sources handy they'll be most welcome, but I'm fully prepared to do the grunt work on my own :)

Also, if you have any recommendations on other subs where I could inquire for ideas, I'd be thankful! 🤗

The empowering choice?: minoxidil vs wigs, and wigs 101

Pre Scriptum: I will cross-post this post to other communities, so if something's not 100% on target please be kind, and consider only what is :)

Today I had a medical appointment, and it's apparently scientifically official: my hair are thinning and thinning out.

I've speed-run processing the fact (even though I'm a white woman in my 30s in a still-mostly-white western society, so wigs aren't that common in my peer group), and am now in DecisionalMode(TM).
Maybe the tests will reveal something new, and we'll cross the bridge yadayada, but so far I'm operating under the premise that I'll be one of those old ladies with tumbleweeds on her head, if I don't do anything.

The doctor prescribed minoxidil, but currently it seems more hassle than it's worth.
In my current view, it'd be a shot in the dark as to both success and side effects(!!), a regular (and seemingly not indifferent?) expense with no permanent results, and -- I'd like to get a cat soon (and, though oral, I'd be wary?).

Option B is saving and getting wigs.
THIS IS MY CHANCE TO ACTUALLY SPORT THE ELUSIVE 1920s FINGER WAVES, AND I WILL NOT SLEEP ON IT.

So far, I've cropped my hair supershort (not the first time, so all cool), and I have the following questions:

  1. If you have experience with both (drugs/wigs), would you care to share your compare-and-contrast? :)
  2. I've seen wigs of most varying price ranges, and many materials. I've also seen that (dangnabbit) nobody can say for sure how long they last.
If I wanted to look for something short (either Very Styled, or more natural), but most of all not fake-seeming (neither in itself, nor on my face), what searchwords should I look for?
  3. And -- definitely from a reputable seller!! How do I sift through them, online or off?
  4. Does wearing a wig somehow negatively impact your natural hair underneath?
  5. Has anyone played around with hair colours? I'm also lightly allergic to hair dyes, so I'm considering the INFINITE POSSIBILITIES ahead of me! Advice on how to proceed with some sense? I'm not made of money 😅
  6. ...would I have to learn how to style it? What tools would I need? (I have a hair dryer, which I don't use. A plastic comb, and - my beloved splurge - a boar's hairbrush. That's it 😬)
  7. The four images I linked in point 2 are the baseline I'd go for (at least at the start). Pros and cons of shorter wigs?
  8. Any cool/helpful/kind advice you'd share 🤗

Thank you all, cool and lovely people! :)

Ngaio Marsh - Artists in Crime - More info about the motive? (Hence: SPOILERS!)

So, I've just finished it, and... Something isn't quite clear to me (possibly because of passé verbiage/reticence): >!were Garcia and Valmai actually lovers/had they actually had sex?!<

Because that murder is BRUTAL (and the pages describing it are excellently worded, also in how they convey the characters' psychology), but. I mean. If I think about it in terms of a contemporary>! revenge porn!< lens (which doesn't fully superimpose with the >!blackmail !<angle, but still it came to my mind), I can at least understand the feeling.

Exponentially so, if the >!sex hadn't even happened, and she only consented (however flirtatiously) to have her nudes sketched.!<

Before the (valid) wagging fingers shoot up, I know that applying contemporary models to historical sensitivities is a fool's errand, but I'm not trying to pass judgement on the text itself*, but just to parse my (a contemporary person, hullo!) feelings on the issue, and so long as I don't have the facts clear, it rattles around in my brain.

If anyone has clues about more pertinent subreddits where I could cross/re-post my query, I'll be most thankful.

So far I've ascertained that there's a Christie's, but no Marsh, and murdermystery seems dedicate to other stuff?

And, if you had forgotten about this book, and preferred it so, I'll offer you the delightful sorbet of the there-twice-used term "Taradiddle" 😌🤭😊

*: at least from this angle: 9/10 otherwise -- good case, excellent psychology, the romance is awesome, the bromance even tops it, and Mama Alleyn is 100% aspirational

In Ngaio Marsh's "Death and the Dancing Footman" there's the following passage:

>His entrance into Jonathan’s library was effective, for he had motored over Cloudyfold bare-headed with the driving window open, and the north wind had tossed his hair into elf-locks. He usually did the tossing himself. He advanced upon Jonathan with his hand outstretched, and an air of gay hardihood. “An incredible night,” he said. “Harpies and warlocks abroad. Most stimulating.”

Emphasis mine, because I (English as L2) believe they are referencing the terrible weather outside.
Which I connected to Terry Pratchett's title "Witches abroad".

And so I assumed it was an idiom, howevermuch niche.

BUT -- I can't find any trace of it on the internet, while usually I can even for those that have fallen out of use ("It's a lulu").

Does ANYONE have any pointers on the issue? Is it an idiom? Is it not? Is the character just poetical? Does anyone's grandma still use it? Is it a local thing?? Please helppppp 😅
