Has anyone had success parking in church parking lots? I don’t live out of my car, but the few times I have it’s seemed ideal. Largely residential, secluded, most days you’re not interrupting anyone, space to unwind a bit, maybe even connect with your spiritual side. Specifically I’m thinking of LDS (Mormon) churches as they’re just about everywhere.
Thoughts?

I’m 1,200 miles away from my family and friends looking for a partner in crime to share ridiculous thoughts and philosophical desires with. I’m a single dad with 3 kids. I spend my downtime on a canoe or in the woods.
I embrace satire and human moments, all while yearning for a better world.
Plus 10 points if you’re close to me but I’m down for making friends wherever.
I do a monthly transfer from my SoFi checking to my local bank’s savings account. I have repeatedly tried and failed to connect and transfer directly into my local banks checking account instead.
Does anyone know how to?
My nephew is staying at my house this summer. He is going through a divorce, a recent suicide attempt, and I’m trying to provide a safe place for him to get back on his feet. He smokes though and it’s killing me. I’ve set a boundary that he only limit his smoking to outside, but I can still smell it when he comes in.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the smoke?
I’ve suggested that if he stays long term I will require him to stop smoking all together. Given all that’s on his plate this seems like such a trivial thing to be pedantic about, but I can’t help it. I don’t like my own house anymore and it hasn’t even been a month.
If I were to require him to stop all together what’s a realistic time frame? I don’t want to be over burdening but I need something to look forward to
I just got back from my first BWCA experience. 4 days/3 nights with 2 portages and 3 lakes visited with my kids out of Fall Lake.
Starbursts were roasted, marshmallows were smore’d, a hammock was swung, we meditated on rocks, completed several pirate excursions, sang a many sea shanties horribly, a canoe may or may not have been tipped (details aren’t important), a tan was acquired, a bazillion mosquitos swatted, and surprisingly my kids ate all my meals!
It was about as I expected. I learned more about what to and not to bring for next time than I care to admit. I was tempted at one point to leave my kids on an exposed rock but don’t worry they returned with me. My 14-year old tried to help portage one of the canoes but only made it half way. Next year will be better.
Thanks for all the posts as I prepped for the adventure of a lifetime
My nephew (27M) attempted suicide last week by overdosing on some pain killers. I’m his closest family member (all be it 320 miles away). I’m going to pick him up from the hospital tomorrow and let him live with me over the summer. I’m entrusting him to watch over my kids in the mornings. Yes, I know the risks but I genuinely think it will help give him something to do and he won’t be harmful to himself or my kids (God, I pray).
He’s going through a divorce, has a rare neurological disease (that will slowly disable him over the next decade to a wheelchair and decrease his cognitive and speech functions), and was fired from his job about 6 months ago.
I am going to try and set him up with a counselor, he’s bringing his computer to my house to live Twitch on (apparently that’s how he makes a little bit of money), and god forbid a zoo of animals (a dog, snake, and gecko).
Any advice is appreciated.
How do I help him?
My nature is to show tough love and set a bunch of rules but I don’t know how good I am at that or helpful. I want to provide a safe place he can just relax in for a bit while he gets his life figured out. I also don’t want to let him just mooch off me.
Thank you in advance
My parents are aging (Dad 81, mom 79). My dad has had a recent health scare and it got me to thinking how I’ll miss my parents when that day does eventually come. I’m sure the years are numbered before they’re put into a nursing home and ultimately pass. On my last phone call with my dad he told me to call him more often, which I should, but it got me to thinking my parents rarely ever call me. It almost always seems me who initiates the call. My parents are busy and live productive lives with a large social network and 7 adult kids. I’m not wanting validation for what I feel like is a semi-distant relationship (well maybe I am a little). I’m genuinely curious how close the masses are to their own parents as they age?
Thoughts, feelings, and impressions are appreciated
Edit/update: thank you all for your input. I find it sad some parents don’t initiate once in awhile. Putting all of the responsibility on the other person feels very one sided to me, but I recognize with time and age the roles of caregiver/caregivee flip. For those of you who kept a close relationship with your parents/children I commend you. Ironically, my mom (who rarely ever initiates) texted me this morning and it was an absolute delight.
I hope we all can grow together rather than apart
I’d like to get a part time AA ramper gig at ORD in the fall. I’d only like to work one or two days a week. Is this realistic? Mostly I’d apply for the flight benefits, but also for a little side income and to force myself off my butt. I need a reason to force me out of my desk job and work my muscles. I’m atrophying and I need to learn a new skill
If it’s realistic do you recommend I stalk AA’s website for job openings?
Thanks in advance,
wannaberamper
