Them in a planted tank is just -chef’s kiss-
Hi all! I've had issues with corys in the past slowly dying off in different tanks that I wanted to hopefully get some insight on as to what could've gone wrong. So previously, I had a group of Aeneas/glo corydoras in a 20g long with play sand substrate. Unfortunately I believe a combination of old age + lack of QT and pretreating meds lead to their deaths over time. The several remaining ones I had to move to a temp 20g high when my 20g long broke, that new tank also had play sand but with a little bit of stratum mixed in. I had been keeping a group of 6 or so napoensis corys in there, which over time also began to experience the same slow die offs. I would routinely test parameters, water change + gravel vac (never more than 50%) and NH3/NO2/NO3 were never at alarming or detectable rates. I've posted on here before of these issues, for context in case that's helpful.
Fast forward to today, I have a new group of 6 glo corys that have finished a 30 day isolation/treatment following the Aquarium Co Op med regimen, they are in a 29g with an organic potting soil substrate topped with a sand cap layer (both about roughly an inch thick). I'm worried for them and hoping that I've been able to set them up for success, but I do have a question regarding pathogens. Could there be pathogens of disease in the substrate that would cause the corys to keep getting sick? Can pockets of anaerobic bacteria in the substrate bubble up from their sifting and harm them?
Should I trash the substrate from the 20g high (there's only top dwelling fish in it rn) so as to not contaminate anyone else? And is there anything I should watch out for/do differently for these fish? Sorry I know this is a long post lol, I just want to do what's best for them. <3
This guy was from a shipment of elizabethaes but was returned by customer & insisted it was not an elizabethae. I am curious to know what yall think? Apologies for the -not the greatest- photo, genuinely the best pics I got of the little guy after several mins 😭 thank you in advance!! I need more eyes bcs mine are unsure
Hi there, I’m wondering if anybody recognizes any of these tetras- I know one of them is the gold tetra but the others I’m stumped. They are bycatch from Colombian shipments of rummynose and cardinals- so if anyone can help me ID them I’d love it, thank you!
(Tucano tetras and exclamation point rasboras) <33
(Cypress Area- Local Pickup Preferred) She was part of an intended breeding project but my male passed away and I’d like to rehome her. She’s been doing really well, I just would prefer to have multiple apistos is all (stores are out of stock of elizabethaes near my part of town so I’d rather she go to a new home). Either for sale or trade, I paid $30 but I’d of course take lower offers. TY!

I had purchased afew of these guys hoping to breed them, but the male passed so I’ve been left with only the one female :/ she’s been doing really well tho! I just would like to have more than one apisto and since they’re all out of stock near me now, I’d rather rehome her. For a small fee- she was $30 but I’d be open to smaller trades and all offers.
I can’t wait to add these babies to my 29g for them to dig around in- most were purchased online but 2 were surrenders I brought home, and I wanted to QT them all and get them dewormed before I put them in their home ❤️
One of my 4 females passed away yesterday morning, unfortunately she was the weaker one of the bunch I purchased, which is sad and also an expensive death- but my 3 remaining females are doing fairly well! I’ve seen the girls eat, or at the very least show interest in the scary new worm looking things I offer. Unfortunately they’re hooked on live blackworms (I have a culture that I keep so they love eating the little ones that newly fragment) but I am hoping frozen will work for these badis like I’ve managed to do for the ones at my LFS job 🤞)
I have them in a 10 gallon species only tank with my 1 male, it’s pretty well planted with hornwort/floaters, moss, various stems- so they’ve all got their own spots they seem to frequent. Cattapa leaves/tannins added for extra comfort- this video is from when I was acclimating my male, after releasing all the females. You can kind of see the general layout. Happy badis keeping!!
Day 1 update on my new scarlets:
My male was eating next to one of the new females and they stared each other down/followed each other around for a little while- I love them!
I got 4 females from an online seller- joelfishtranshipper. They were a pretty penny, but I think it was well worth the cost! Updates/future breeding plans to come <3
From Joelfishtranshipper! Received 4 of these bbs today and they look great!
I just ordered 4 female scarlet badis from ‘Joel Fish Transhipper’ and they arrived today- I’m not home atm so I have yet to see them in person, but I had a family member send me photos of the fish and they all came in alive- from what I could tell vaguely they do seem like female dario dario- I will update when I get home & get them out/ acclimating!
Not at all sure on its sex (I hope female) but I just got these cuties yesterday- I love watching them!
I have a very small Starfire Angel in a 29g (body size of a 50 cent coin), he’s the only angelfish but he has a small group of glo corys with him. My 40 gallon has just been freed up as previous livestock is gone from the tank now, so I was curious as to how many Angels I could have in there? (P. scalare). Of course I don’t know the sex of my current one, so would it be best to buy 1 other angel or several? All of my setups are heavily planted so that wouldn’t be an issue for me with the angels. TIA!
Gone far too soon 💔 just about a year and a half old :(( (old picture). I love you my Bobo and I’m so sorry 🩷
My axolotl has been tubbed in a 10g tank (sponge filter & clip on fan at a constant 65°) for going on 3 days now. He has shown visible improvement like gill fungus completely falling off in the first day- but he hasn’t eaten in enough time to where I’m worried for him. It’s like he doesn’t have the strength or “ability” to eat, he shows interest in the food but he’s 100% lost weight :(( I know he is recovering and I am not forcing him to do anything, but I have night crawlers (cut up, blanched etc), live blackworms, Hikari carnivore pellets, Repashy Grub Pie, most recently picked up some Garlic Guard- I also have tried using pipettes, tongs, leaving him in the dark with his cave to eat, he’s just been unable to eat food/refusing. I’ll attatch a picture of his 10g tub setup (light is on only for a photo, also about to finish his water change) His head is wider than his body by nearly half an inch in total (left + right side added) main display tank water params most recently were 0/0/20ppm after a huge top off- the issue was my filtration + a prior nitrate spike that I’ve addressed now). What can I do now in his current state in order to best help him? I feel I’m going almost crazy trying to get him better lol, I just want my baby to gain his strength back and eat. I didn’t wanna post this on reddit because I’m honestly embarrassed at what’s happening but I care more about getting his struggle out to anyone who might have advice for me/us. Thank you all. (Other details I can think of: his display is 40g, chiller running at a constant 64°, his main diet has always been earthworms- will add the rest of automod q’s rn)
I was trying to get a shot of how vibrant my maculatus & exclamation point rasboras look under the chihiro (b40) lighting, but was delighted to see their silly faces swimming towards me 😭 I love my little clowns
I’m in the middle of scaping my tank for my glo corys and angel so I’d love to see what yall have done! 🩷
I bought this from one of my favorite artists (vancouverislandbeading) & I’m in love!!! As an axo owner especially this piece is special 🩷
I have red Flourite & I’m kind of wanting to cap it with sand for aesthetic purposes, but for some reason I can’t find too many examples of what that may look like. I’d love to see some of yalls! 🩷
