[Recommendation] Absolute dirt cheap beach watch

Taking a beach trip at the end of the month. I’ve had a Timex Expedition Scout I’d be using for 10ish years. It finally gave out on me. I have some watches that are dead or dying I could swap the battery on that’ll last a month or two but I’d like to pick up an absolute dirt cheap beater for the beach. Like $35. Looking at the weekender right now but want other suggestions. I’d like it to look nice but not too nice, and be able to go in the ocean or pool.

Need A Book For Vacation (Scifi)

Going on vacation at the end of the month and need a new book to take with me. Looking for scifi. I enjoyed Dark Matter, Silo, PHM, The Martian, Hyperion, Old Man’s War, 3BP. I didn’t love Neuromancer or Left Hand of Darkness. My want to reads are: Spin, House of Suns, The Dispossessed. I’d prefer one offs as opposed to a series. TIA

No Way To Intuitively See Impacts???

I made a post here the other day about coming back after 2 years off. I found out now that whoop no longer sends you a monthly PA summarizing the recovery impacts of stuff in your journal. Is there anyway to view this all in one place now? Or am I stuck clicking on every single individual habit in my journal to see the impact? I haven’t been able to figure it out

Monthly Report?

I just returned to whoop after a 2 year hiatus. It’s the 1st will finish my second month back. Originally I remember you used to get an email at the end of the month with a monthly report going over everything. I didn’t get one last month. Has that changed? Or is it because it was just my first month? If they don’t give it to you, how do you view the layout of everything that you’ve recorded and it helping or hurting your recovery?

Testing Previous Gen Drivers?

Long story short I’d like to upgrade my Ping G20 in August after 15 years of faithful service. I spent some time hitting the 440 and GTS2 at the superstore while I was traveling. I’m not sure on budget yet but I may be looking more at previous gen than new. We only have 1 dedicated golf shop, a small Edwin watts. What’s the best way to try out previous gen to make a decision? Just hit what I can from their used selection (Elyte, 430, etc) and hope it’s not a big change if I get a different shaft? I’m looking at going from Regular to Stiff (I was logging 105mph club head at the superstore) but that limits the used trial selection obviously

Long iron gap questions

I have been playing Wilson Staff D9 since 2020. I just recently was given 2025 P790s. I haven’t had a chance to hit them yet but I’m expecting to lose a club length. I was hitting my old 5i 190-200 and I expect to hit my new 5i 180. Next club is my Sim Max 4H that I hit 225. Id really like a 190-200 club. I could buy a matching P790 4i, but if I’m keeping my old clubs, would it be weird to just play that 5i in the bag to fill the gap? I have more pressing needs in terms of clubs and gaps as I now need a 50° to fill the gap between my PW (45°) and my 56°. And I’d like to look at a new driver in place of the G20 I’ve been rocking for 15 years

Help me fill gaps

I just got a new set of irons. I haven’t been able to take them out and test out distances but I have an estimate. Current bag:
G20 Driver - 280 if I’m hitting well
G20 3W - 250
RBZ 5W - no idea but estimate is 240-245 vs G20
SIM Max 4H - 225
5i - 180 est
PW (45°) - 130 est
Old 46° - 130 redundant now
56° vokey - 90
60° vokey - 80

5i-PW are 2025 P790s. I haven’t had time to test out the 5W but from research the RBZ is hotter than the G20 so even with the angle change it ends up only being 5-10 shorter than the G20 in theory. I have a matching RBZ driver I could swap for the G20 but I haven’t hit it much and let my buddy borrow it. I’m thinking about picking up a 50°. Maybe a vokey but I’m honestly considering anything maybe just a good used deal I find at the local store or a TM MG 50. I’m also hung up on the top of the bag. I want to upgrade my driver. I’m fine with my 3W it isn’t a rush to change. I don’t need more than 250 out of it even if I gain distance on my drive I have no business using it for anything beyond that. But the 180-225 gap is what concerns me. I’d like to at least have a 190-200 club. I could go for a matching 4i and drop the 5W and leave my bag as is. A hybrid is a must for me cause I use it for a lot of utility shots. I could drop the 3W and 5W and get a newer 5W that I would imagine I could reach 250 with. I could ditch the 4H for something like a 6H that I hit 200. I’m spinning with the options and curious what others would do

New Driver Timing And Suggestions?

I’m in a bit of a conundrum. I have been gaming my Ping G20 Driver and 3W since I got them new in like 2011/12. 10.5 degree driver and both standard flex. I don’t play consistently and my driver swing has gone through a couple permutations that can only be described as horrendous. One I held the longest and had working for a while was dropping my lead foot back a half step to open my stance and swinging for first base as fast as I could in back swing and downswing. I could get through 9 holes or so of this before it fell apart but I’d pipe them 280 dead straight. I want to be more consistent so I’ve tried to go into a more standard swing and work that out. It worked for a little but now it’s fallen apart again. I want to upgrade to something previous gen ($400-500). Looking at like the G430, AI Smoke, GT2, Qi35. We dont have an open sim here until the fall when it opens so getting stats is tough. We have an Edwin Watts with 2 bays but I don’t fully trust them, and a top tracer I haven’t tried yet but I have concerns about too. I went into a PGA Superstore this weekend while out of town and tried out the G440 and GT2 both with 60g stiff shaft. The Ping felt more comfortable but I feel like the GT2 fit what I’m working my swing towards better. I was losing 20 yards though. Though I want a new driver, I feel like it’s pertinent to straighten out my swing first, but it’s also hard as from all research the regular stiffness on my current driver is at least somewhat of a problem since I was seeing 100-105 club head speed at the sim. Smash factor was teetering around 1.45+- and getting spin below 3500 was hard. What driver recommendations should I look at, and should I be more focused on getting the swing down with my current driver before I keep trying out alternatives?

Shaft Stiffness Improvements?

I’m going to ask a more complicated question and provide very little info so strap in. I’m rocking a Ping G20 regular flex 10.5° that I got new in highschool just starting out and it’s been my only driver since. I’ve straightened out a lot of my driver since then and when I’m hitting well I’m seeing 280 on it and I think it’s pretty high but that’s subjective. I don’t have any other stats than that since sims are hard to come by in my area for at least another few months. I’ve asked AI for some rough estimates and it says 105-112mph club head speed would be the guess. It also estimated a new driver upgrade and correcting the shaft would have me pushing 300. I don’t fully trust it but that’s the best I can do without access to a sim right now and wanted to see some others input on if that sounds right, especially the club head speed and shaft recommendation so I know if it’s worth trying one out when I get the chance.

New Driver or Mini?

Just got new irons. Currently have 13 clubs. Threw an old RBZ 5W I had laying around in the bag cause I can. Probably going to look at adding something between PW and 56 though instead. But currently I’m rocking my old G20 Driver and 3W. I’ve been eyeing upgrading the driver and 3W to maybe a G425 or AI Smoke. But I’m considering if going Mini and leaving those two in the bag wouldn’t be the call? Right now I hit them 280 and 250 respectively but I do need to work on hitting more fairways after I dial in the new irons. Hypothetically if I used a mini in most case at the course I have eye most set on for a membership I’d have no problem. Be at or inside of 150 for every approach. Honestly I wouldn’t be set up too bad except for a few holes on even the long courses in town with that distance. Would it be smarter to go new driver or mini and keep the old ones?

Florida Jurisdictional Fail

Welp, I seemingly did the impossible. I failed the Florida Jurisdictional. 1 question away. I shouldn’t have jumped the gun and taken it and put a little more effort in to studying. Maybe bad luck on some of the questions cause some took forever to find and killed a lot of time so I was rushing at the end. But regardless, it is what it is. Has anyone else had to do this? I have to resubmit and application and new fee. Do I have to wait for the next board meeting to get approval or is it just an auto renewal once they get my application and check?

Update in case anyone in the future sees this: it is rolling reapproval for the Florida jurisdictional. You do not need to wait until a board meeting.

How Do You Determine COL Adjustment?

Wife and I are constantly debating moving somewhere bigger with more going on. I would consider where we live to be L/MCOL. City of 200k in Florida. Obviously, traveling somewhere to visit doesn’t give a real feel for COL. You’re eating out at nicer restaurants than where you might eat more if you lived somewhere, you don’t have the same expenses, etc. Obviously leaving FL would probably mean lower insurance and possibly income tax, but how else do you judge true COL adjustment for a place? I feel like all the online calculators feel off usually saying I only need to make $3k more or so for places that tend to be consider more expensive (at least for the SE)

[US - ~$2000] wife needs a new laptop

I need to build a laptop for my wife. I know my stuff but not everything. I call her a laptop killer. She burns through MacBook airs lasting only 2-3 years. I gave her my more souped up HP Spectre X360 that had a better processor and RAM. It lasted her a lot longer but it’s 7 years old and she needs a new laptop. She likes the MacBook Pro. I need to know a recommendation on processor, mainly. She doesn’t do anything crazy design wise. But she does just run a ton of productivity apps and a million chrome tabs that she’s using. She won’t change this, so I just want to build something that will handle it. I’m looking at 24gb RAM and 1TB ssd. But is the M5 enough, or will the M5 Pro provide more longevity? Ideally this thing will need to remain functional for another 5+ years minimum. I’m open to upping the RAM too if someone thinks that’s necessary. Would like it to be 14” or around there and good enough battery to work some not hooked into the charger so she can work at a coffee shop, or dock, or by the pool.

Open to field change but unsure what

My wife has done a little advertising, a few years of PR, and now a stint essentially connecting brands and creators. Masters in communications. Bachelors in English. Looking for a career change into something that is more low stress. Ideally $55k plus. She’s highly productive, but struggles with micromanaging. Has to be remote. But basically thrives being given a task and left alone to do it. And I don’t just say that cause she’s my wife, I’m pretty sure if she learned how to do my job she’d blow me out of the water on productivity.

How do you plan out vehicle purchases?

How do you guys plan out future vehicle purchases? My wife has a RAV4 that we got new that will be paid off this year. I have a 15 year old F150. I have to have a truck for towing and hauling. A few grand in my truck would probably have it running well for a few more years. Any truck worth buying used is around $35k. I could probably wait it out and manage a 3 year payment for that. But I’m also worried about the longer we go putting off me getting a new truck, the longer the wife has to wait before getting a new one, since I’d absolutely love to avoid ever having 2 payments. My truck is also a gas guzzler as it runs premium. A new truck would save me about $250/mo on gas alone. Just wondering how everyone else plans it. Just risk it and go as long without a payment as possible and make it future me’s problem?

Recommend me a good stock base for a custom build?

I’ve got a couple stock pistols that cover me for edc. G19, P365, LCP II. I’d like to do something that’s a more custom build not for carrying. Ideally it’d be a home defense gun or one to put on my hip if I go out to the farm and see something from snakes to hogs. I like the idea of .45 but good with 9mm too. I want something that is a good stock platform to build from that I don’t have to do too too much to. I don’t want to do another Glock and spend 3x the price of the pistol on a cut and milled slide and accessories when it’s all said and done. Threaded barrel maybe but it’s not a hard selling point. I like the look of the S&W M&P comps but they just don’t fully do it for me. A 2011 is a little higher than I’d want to spend for a platform. The Canik combats are about what I’m looking for but I’d like some other options. Thanks

What field would you go into for remote low stress work?

Masters in communication. Experience in paid advertising, PR (bulk of experience), and UGC. Need a job change that is low stress, preferably one that is largely self sufficient. Something that you can just crank away at and be left alone mostly. Has to be remote. Any recommendations?

New Aquaracer?

Long story short I’ve got a milestone birthday in the summer. I was looking at the Tag Aqua 200. Any of them quartz, solar, auto. But I see they’re selling out, and saw here they’re being discontinued, likely for a new model soon with the 300. Any thought on when that would release? Ball park MSRP?

Long story short I’ll be getting officially licensed this year and hopefully start moving up into PM roles. There are topics that I am aware that I am woefully lacking in. One of the biggest being project control. I spent maybe a year as a Rodman then the first 4 years of my career almost exclusively doing LiDAR extraction and putting together DTMs and topos. Never really got a chance to work on control or boundary. Ultimately why I left that job. I still haven’t got much experience working on new projects and establishing control. What would be the best resources for learning about establishing control, especially using reference networks? I’m not entirely ignorant but when most of your control is just concerned with establishing mobile targets, 2 vectors off 2 stations, and ran through Hector the Vector suffices. I’d like to be more knowledgeable. Thanks

I consider moving about once a year from my smaller city. It’s quite boring here even comparatively for its size. Only a handful of restaurants you can cycle through quickly, some of the best ones only being the best cause the competition sucks (sushi). A lot of cool stuff skips us over or there’s just no market for it. Events are lackluster. But it’s comfortable, it checks all the basics, affordable, and my commute across town is 15 minutes in the morning before rush hour. If we stay here our daily lives will be quite easy, dare I say cushy, but boring, but we could afford enough to spend on traveling or doing things more. Conversely, I don’t think our income would scale proportionally by moving. We’d pretty much make about the same in most places. So, daily life would have more options, but we may have less to spend on other things like travel or anything to make life more cushy.

Others who have chosen one or both, what have you experienced? Or if you haven’t chosen one, what are your opinions?
