Another weird m203 accessory for the collection

Clamp on Troy tri rail with some sort of flicky forward assist thing? I don’t have a m203 yet so I’m not really sure what the lever does.

It’s a lot beefier than the CAA tri rail I got a while ago. I’ve only seen the Troy rail 1 other time on a used m203 on GB.

Any ideas what the purpose of the lever is?

Original USGI M79s in stock

Armsunlimited pulled through with the M79s. USGI surplus, not clone/reproduction. The price they have them listed for isn’t out of line for USGI M79s but isn’t for the faint of heart. Link in the comments.

KAC RAS not fitting

This is a HK53 clone (not made by MKE), the RAS fits fine on my AP5. The cocking tube in my HK53 clone sits low in the front sight block ring, it bumps into the bottom of the ring before aligning with the handguard pin holes. It seems like it may be an issue with the hanger as the tabs on the RAS around the pin hole bumps into the tabs in the hanger before the pin holes align. Any idea what could be out of wack with this?

Cocking tube hanger vertical misalignment

Just got a MP5 KAC ras and went to install it on my HK53 clone. The front mounting hole doesn’t quite align? Seems like it’s like 1/32” off. Looking at the triple ring with the cap off from the front it seems like the cocking tube is slightly displaced upward.

The RAS fits my MKE MP5 fine. All the other polymer hand guards fit my HK53 fine. Is this a “hit it with your purse” situation?

Better DIY for long deftec cases

Was tinkering with some sample parts and found a thick plastic cap that fits ALS and deftec casings perfectly. Reinforced the bottom so it doesn’t blow through and I think it may be better than the printed option. True pressure expands the walls enough to press the walls firmly against the side of the case as the originals were designed to do. They also seem to have potential to load in sort cases as sort of buckshot cups. I’ll have to test it more but the red caps are produced in bulk and are super cheap. Might need to shorten them to leave the same payload capacity as originals though.

Real vs ‘fake’ m79 wood stocks

I got to compare a Spikes tactical 37mm m79 clone to a real 40mm m79 recently. Took some pics of a few differences. Some of the “wood m79 stocks” that have been in GB lately are modern Spikes stocks, fortunately they’re very easy to tell apart.

Main difference is the “heel” of the grip just in front of the screw hole where your pinky would be is very angled on the Spikes and is more rounded on a real M79 stock. Another difference is the inner edge of the real M79 surfaces that mount against the sides of the receiver have 2 separate flats of wood set into the stock, the Spikes is 1 solid piece.

Both stocks look good, just so you don’t pay new old stock prices for modern repro prices.

Spikes M79 37mm

Upgraded to a 40mm one and it’s tough to justify 2 m79s in this economy lol.

It was surprising how much sturdier the barrel of the 37mm is than the 40mm. 1/4” steel vs much thinner aluminum.

A few new cases

I need to work on printing some clone short case smoke/aerial bangs for these cases.

Also I have now seen gas seal failures from about every single manufacturer (military m1029, CTS and DefTec). About 10% of the gas seals I find have the skirt ripped off from firing, this is similar failure that’s seen in printed gas seals. I guess it’s comforting that failures in printed components doesn’t necessarily mean they’re inferior in performance.

MD/DO swat medic malpractice insurance?

I’m looking into moonlighting as a seat medic, pretty high chance it won’t work out but would be neat if it did. Wondering if the department’s usually provide medical malpractice insurance or that has to be bought by the physician.

Someone needs to capitalize on the new “dual use barrel/receiver” import changes

Thousands and thousands of old colt M203s and M79s abroad that are collecting dust. They should be able to be imported now in pieces as “dual use receivers” and maybe “dual use barrels” if I understand it right.

Worst case someone ships up a printed 12GA m79 and m203 barrel so that there’s an ATF approved title 1 configuration for the receivers to get imported.

Anyone use PerfectShot 1/4 or 1/2 power blanks?

I’m doing some load development for some less lethal reloads. I have tested Boland 1/4 and 1/2 blanks and they aren’t quite the velocity I need, but are very close. If someone could test a few PerfectShot blank combinations for velocity that would be a huge help and would save me the trouble or ordering a hundred blanks just to test a couple loads.

Legal way to “blind” flock camera with no permanent damage?

Obviously permanently damaging flock camera’s is illegal, but what is the legality of shining a regular LED flash light at a flock camera preventing it from capturing any usable images? That causes no permanent damage.

Taking it one step further what’s to keep someone from using a small modified solar flood light (like what people use in their yard to like up their house) to keep it from capturing usable images indefinitely.

Finally got a chronograph for working up less lethal rounds

Trying to dial in the right combination of components to load a bunch of deftec and ALS rounds back to factory spec.

Standard 25-30g foam batons are meant to go 315-345fps, extended range 400fps

Lots of things like vent hole size, and how much empty space is between the case and projectile affect muzzle velocity.

I’ve had great luck with the fiocchi blanks for getting standard velocity in just about any case with a small vent hole, 1/4 power boland for extended velocity in small vent cases.

Still need to try some fine tuning with various thickness burst disks and a good load for m212 cases.

Will work testing velocity for bean bags and rubber buckshot next.

Crushable powder baton

Trying to recreate some of the “crushable OC/CS foam baton” rounds that law enforcement sometimes use.

Trimmed down foam golf ball to 40mm, used press and 30mm circle die punch to cut the middle out, filled with about 4g of talc powder before gluing the tip back on and gluing the whole thing to a plastic base.

It made a small but noticeable cloud on impact with the target. I’d like to find a more firm and brittle foam to try at some point which may perform better.

37mm cases jamming in 40mm launcher

Got a damaged case in a bulk by recently and just figured out what happened to it. Figured I’d make a post for anyone else to countering the issue in the future.

The case rim of 37mm is the same diameter as 40mm (thickness can vary) but the case walls are obviously narrower. This allows the 37mm case to tilt in the barrel enough to slip around/in front of the extractor in some launchers. Normally the extractor is positioned perfectly to catch the rim of 40mm when opened. When this happens the front face of the case extractor will ram into the back of the 37mm case rim and can bite a chunk out if you ram it closed like some cop seems to have done.

Have to open the launcher action, pull the extractor back/open as far as it will to and try to wiggle the case up/around the extractor.

Be careful loading 37mm dual use cases in 40mm, make sure the rim rests on the extractor properly when closing the launcher.

Pic 1: how it should look
Pic 2: how it should not look, care rim in front of extractor
Pic 3: side view of pic #2
Pic 4: pulling extractor rearward and trying to wiggle 37mm case out

The 2 extractor shaped chunks taken out of the rim are from someone slamming the launcher closed at picture #2

App not recognizing correct password and not allowing alternate log in/reset methods

Trying to log into my backup account through the app on my phone. I am 100% sure what the password is. I can log in on my web browser and it works fine.

Try to log in on the app--> "password is incorrect" or "did you forget password?" (it is correct)

Reset password--> reset it, save it--> "password incorrect" or "did you forget password?"

"Try to log in another way"--> Email/text link --> click link--> "sorry something went wrong"

"Try to log in another way" --> Email/text code--> Type in code, click enter--> blank pop up message with the option to press "OK" nothing happens when you press OK-> press enter again, repeat

What is happening? Again, it works perfectly fine on browser and my main account works perfectly fine on the app, none of my backups work on the app.

Reloading for the 40mm

Lots more available than just chalk if you get creative.

These all started as empty fired casings. Now all reloaded to factory spec.

Talc powder muzzle blast

I’ve tried muzzle blast with cabisil and chalk powder before but this was the best yet. It didn’t even leave a bunch if powder in the barrel like most of them do. Better range than previous attempts too. Half of the range was out of frame, but it didn’t dump it all right at the muzzle which is good.

This was 40g talc powder with a factory gas seal, fiocchi blank and 1/8” vent hole.
