Tonight's Viewing: Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986)

Tonight's Viewing: Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986)

JUMPIN' JACK FLASH (1986) LASERDISC SCREEN CAPTURE

This is one of the rare films I own on every format available. I had the VHS since I was a kid. I got the DVD in the early 00's. I paid way too much for the Blu Ray but it was a must have (also had to have American Dreamer with JoBeth Williams--wish that one got a LD release). I purchased the LD on Facebook Marketplace someone had a Whoopi haul with about 10 of her good films. Had to cop it.

Just a feel good and light hearted film that I enjoy entirely too much. I cozy up on the couch and watch this one often. Absolutely nothing has changed.

Tonight's Viewing: Single White Female (1992)

SINGLE WHITE FEMALE (1992) WIDESCREEN EDITION

Unedited screen capture. This movie aged really well. I watch it once every couple of years. It is kind of slow the first hour but really picks up with the action in the last 48 minutes. Which is how a good movie is supposed to be paced. They took time and told the story in great detail. The scene with the high heel used to creep me out when I was a kid (had no business watching this one but I had HBO/CINEMAX & SHO in my bedroom). I would turn the tv up just enough so I could hear it and sneak and watch TV when I should be sleeping. Anyhow this is what's on the docket for tonight!

Tonight’s Viewing: BLINK (1994)

Check out the screen capture of the film below. Almost giving DVD quality. Madeline Stowe did really well in this one. The 90s had a bunch of movies about blind women in creepy apartments being hunted by a killer. This one got lost in the sauce. Technically this is a 1993 release but it didn’t come out in the states until January 1994.

*Discussion Thread* Do You Think UMPI Gave In To The Pressure And Purposely Slowed Down The YourPace Degree Progression W/ These New GEC Changes?

I think they absolutely did. Which is a good thing but also frustrating for people who are in the midst of these changes. I got lucky and got my BA in Psych only having to do 10 courses at UMPI.

I say it is a good thing because UMPI was on it's way to being known as a degree mill and no one wants a degree that gets that reputation. I know there are politics at play as well and perhaps funding caused them to make sure there were 4-5 courses in the GEC that could no be transferred. That means more money coming in because no one will hardly graduate in 1 session like in the past especially if they want minors.

I personally work slower than most and I did my degree in 2 sessions (5 classes each) and it was not stressful and I worked full-time having plenty time for family as well.

I personally don't think UMPI is ready for these STEM degrees but I think they want the money so they are pushing ahead. They don't really have the staff in place for the storm that is brewing. Cybersecurity will be a huge success but not having any Certifications included makes me question this degree although I am interested I am cautious. I know you can get the certifications on your own and it is saving you money but this degree is going to be a 3 session degree for most people (2 sessions possibly for those who already have their UMPI degree). I know tuition is also about to go up. So let's say we guess tuition will be 2200 per session x3=6,600 for a Cybersecurity degree with zero certifications is wild. I know the barriers to entry with only having to do MAT 120 vs. Discrete Math at WGU will be the deciding factor for many. However; if you have an Associates degree in anything tech related WGU waives all math classes for each degree save for Computer Science I believe. However; the proctoring alone would make me go elsewhere.

Speaking of Computer Science; since you brought it up. I think this degree is really going to be the degree that pushes tuition up and puts UMPI on the map with being a serious contender in the STEM category. I know I have to give UMPI Yourpace grace they have to start somewhere. Hopefully in the future they offer Cybersecurity certifications with the degree. If I were in charge at UMPI Yourpace I would have offered STEM degrees in Yourpace Graduate programs first. That way you can control the flood gates (less students at first) and you can secure staffing. Then open up the STEM degrees to Yourpace undergrad.

Back to the topic at hand I think what we are witnessing with UMPI Yourpace is a compromise. They took the constructive criticism (okay it was a dragging not constructive at all) and made some changes that made getting a degree not as easy. I can't say I blame them and I am happy they did it to protect the integrity of our degrees. Those of us going on to earn our Masters at other institutions may not be as concerned about UMPI's reputation but those who got their degree for a promotion or as their final degree may feel differently. I originally came to this school because I had 150 credits from 2 different Uni attempts and limited funds. Getting this degree was a blessing and I am forever indebted to UMPI because I had to pay out of pocket and it was very affordable.

I know change sucks but I think this is a change we all should embrace. I think in the future they will definitely be restricting more classes and might even up the residency requirements. Don't put off getting your degree get in there get your degree and keep it moving. That is the best advice.

As a person who loves writing I found competency-based education to work very well with my learning style. It has made me a stronger writer and hopefully will help prepare me for law school after I finish this MSW degree.

Keep in mind these are just my opinions and if you don't agree that is fine. Feel free to express yourself I am just checking in to see how others feel about all of these changes to Yourpace? It almost seems like too much too soon. My son is currently in the old program getting BABA in Supply Chain Management. He just graduated truck driving school and he will be finishing this degree Fall 1 session. He is also doing an internship in logistics at a company where he is getting paid. UMPI Yourpace opens up doors for so many people and I support the changes they are making.

TV says HLG HDR When Laserdisc Is Attached & Playing

For years I have been using an expensive splitter so when it was in use via the splitter this didn't come on the screen. I have now moved the laserdisc hdmi to one of the main hdmi inputs and it displayed HLG HDR for about 10 seconds. What does this mean?

Catalytic Converter Issues 2017 Rogue

My check engine like has been on for about a week. I noticed the acceleration issues but other than that vehicle drives fan. My Rogue has 192K on it and I have never had to do any major work to it.

I am afraid getting this catalytic converter fixed is just going to set off even more problem. The fix is about 2500 not sure if I want to even fix it or just buy another vehicle.

I bought my Rogue in 21 and it wasn't even the vehicle I wanted but I had a deadline of getting a car and I was on the last day of my rental. I thank God I didn't buy a lemon because it was purely an impulse buy.

Unfortunately I still owe 7K (I know.. rebuilding) on the vehicle. I am wondering if I trade it in and say they give me 3500 and I pay out the difference would that be better than fixing the car? Not sure what I want to do.

Car is still driveable and I just bump around town 2-3 miles from home because I work from home.

If you were in my situation what would you do?

Would A BS in Paralegal Studies Be Popular Via YourPace?

I think it would be a good pre-law major and if it is ABA approved it could open doors in the legal field for someone.

People Treat You How They Feel About You

I had a friend (someone who I thought was a friend) that I had been close with since we were both 15 years old. I brought this person around my family and we hung together a lot during our early 20's. I always had a car and this person didn't so I was always the one driving us places. I became friends with some of their friends as well. They became friends with some of my cousins. When I turned 25 I moved out of town and became less involved with this group of friends. We went some years without talking on and off but that is considered normal in situations like this. People have their own lives and families.

Well around that time our lives went in different directions. I went to college and started a career and became successful. He ran the streets and got into trouble catching a prison sentence. When he got out we reconnected but he was still of the mindset that he had to be a bad boy. Though the friendship changed the love was still there I looked at him like a brother. He eventually started turning his life around.

We reconnected last year after another few years without talking. We text and hung out a couple of times and everything was normal. He is now doing very well has a great job and income. That is when I noticed he started to become dismissive of me. Texts would go days unanswered and he would randomly respond not on topic of what we were talking about. He seemed to get irritated easily when I would simple follow up on what we were talking about. He told me he had run into one of my cousins who was also a friend of his at one point. He tells me how my cousin is a bum and the statement really shocked me. Yes, my cousin is going through some struggles similar to what he had gone through. So I was not expecting him to have said that. I responded by telling him not to talk about my family and that he was out of pocket with that statement. He didn't apologize and left the message on read.

Last week he randomly text and said he was in town and wanted to drop by. I was over what he had said about my cousin. He came by and seemed aggravated like he didn't want to be there. Just looking around my place and not paying much attention to what I was saying. I can't explain it. My place is really nice I took time and decorated every inch and it is very clean so there was no reason to be looking around taking inventory. I asked him was he alright and he said he was fine. I offered him something to drink and he asked for water. He asked could he smoke and I told him I didn't mind. I did most of the talking and at times he wouldn't even respond. It was like he could no longer hide his disdain for me. I started to feel awkward in my own home and decided this visit was over. I told him I had to get ready to go run some errands and he left.

A couple of days later I text him to ask what was up with our last visit and why he was acting "brand new" like we had just met. That is when my phone informed me the message couldn't be delivered because he had blocked me.

I looked back at our texts to see if I had said anything that would possibly upset him and came to the conclusion I did not do or say anything. He on the other hand made a few statements looking back that I see were cold and insensitive. In a way I am relieved that he revealed himself to me. I have come to the conclusion he never really was my friend. He was a user and when his life got better and he was financially stable I was no longer useful to him. It was a gut punch because I genuinely thought of him as a brother. And we go back over 25 years.

Looking back I now see how one sided this friendship was. When his grandfather passed away I reached out and offered condolences. When my brother passed away a year later I didn't hear from him. I had so many people reach out that I didn't even realize he had not reached out until now. I overlooked a lot of the signs that he really doesn't care for me.

I truly believe people treat you how they feel about you and this is the last time I am giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Like I said there were lots of red flags but I let it slide because of our long history and the friendship we once shared. It changed a long time ago on his part and I just didn't want to see it out of loyalty and brotherhood.

I will never reach out to him again and I have accepted what has happened.

Anyone Enjoying 4 Free Months Of Amazon Music?

Their algorithm is nicer than Spotify when it comes to song choices. Hearing some good music.

My only issue is they don’t offer No Scrubs with Lefteye’s rap despite marking it as such. That is unfortunate because its my jam. I also think their app takes too long to load.

I like Spotify’s interface better I may end up going with Apple Music when this trial is over. Spotify doesn’t have a lot of Anita Baker’s music (she pulled it I heard) but Apple Music does. Amazon Music has her greatest hits and other selections so better than Spotify.

It seems no streaming service completely fits my needs so I jump around.

Anyone's Sex Drive Kick Into High Gear In Their 40s?

I turned 40 about 4 months ago and OMG I have been wanting sex way more than usual. I work a lot of overtime and I schedule sex for my days off. Once a week used to keep my satisfied. Now I want it like 3x a week. My regular FWB can't seem to keep up. He is 38 and once a week is good for him. I think I am going to have to get me an alternate because my hormones have been raging!

Is this normal or is something going on?

The Rich Man's Wife (1996)

Very campy film I remember watching late night on Showtime or HBO when I was a kid in the late 90's. Didn't do well at the box office. However; Halle Berry is at her physical peak (beautiful as ever) and this is one of those movies that is so bad it is good. It is a guilty pleasure watch. I hate I didn't get the Kino Lorber Blu Ray when it came out in 2018. It is very expensive now but I own a digital copy in HD and I also still have my DVD. The digital HD has a beautiful picture. Enjoying this one as I haven't watched it in maybe 3-4 years.

Clea Lewis who plays Josie's best friend Nora also paired up with Halle Berry in another thriller The Perfect Stranger 11 years after this movie. It was great to see them reunited in another thriller after all those years. Their chemistry is great on screen.

"Chapter 51" Anyone?

I love Mockumentary style films and this was interesting for the first 20 minutes then something went wrong and I just couldn't finish it. It wasn't as good as it seemed it was going to be. Not sure why this film didn't hit it out of the park because the casting was actually quite good. Any thoughts?

I Believe I Died During Child Birth In Another Life

Ever since I was a child (I am male) I have had a strange feeling around very pregnant women. almost like I relate to them or empathize. It's like I know what it feels like to be pregnant, the kicking, the cramps, the changing of the body. I am not afraid of them but concerned for their well being. Almost like I feel responsible for them it is strange. I had forgot all about this. As I am 40 with no children. However; I recently had a patient (I work in psych we rarely interact w/ pregnant patients) very pregnant and it was almost like a flashback when I looked at her.

I had feelings of dread and uncertainty and even a small amount of fear. I remember having dreams as a child that I had been a woman giving birth and something going terribly wrong. I get really cold and I am losing blood. The person helping to deliver the baby (who I think survived) says she's is hemorrhaging everything goes black and I wake up. This was a recurring dream for about 3-4 years. I never hear the baby cry but I was certain the child survived. I did hear someone say "it's a boy".

I was not in a hospital I was in a home and I still remember the beautiful curtains. They were very fancy and lead me to believe in this life I had come from means. There were 2-3 nurses or aides tending to me. One of the nurses seemed to be in charge. The doctor was an elderly man whose cold stethoscope I can still feel on my chest.

The bed I was in seemed very stately as well. Expensive wood sitting quite high. I don't remember much about the people at my bedside but people came to visit. There is a child a little girl that just stands in the hallway almost scared to come in. One of the aides takes her away. She isn't crying or even reacting just staring at me in the bed. I feel like I have done this more than once but I am scared this time. I know something is wrong. I feel very weak like I am slipping away. When it goes black I always wake up like clockwork.

Anyone Get Their LEPRECHAUN 4K Replacement Disc Yet?

You all drug me through hot coals in the last thread I posted about being upset about this 4K release having a noticeable color defect. I was indeed frustrated because at first they acknowledged their mistake and said they would fix the issue. Then a few days later they snatched back the statement (deleted it from their site) and said the 4k was approved by the director and not going to be fixed. Since then (after a lot more complaints) they reverted back to the original statement and decided they are going to fix the problem.

I was told to shut up and not complain and a replacement would be automatically sent to me. I was also told I was overreacting LOL (probably was I was pissed). So here I am still patiently waiting... Anyone get theirs yet?

John Singleton 4K Hood Trilogy Has Me Disenchanted

I did not purchase it but I went back and forth about it for about 2 weeks and decided I will sit this one out. I know Higher Learning was not his most memorable or successful film. However; for the sake of chronological order John Singleton should have got 2 boxsets:

Number One:

Boyz-n-tha-Hood 4K+Blu Ray disc

Poetic Justice 4K+Blu Ray disc

Higher Learning 4K+Blu Ray disc

Number Two:

Shaft (2000) 4K+Blu Ray disc

Baby Boy 4K+Blu Ray disc

Four Brothers 4K+Blu Ray disc

Yes I omitted:

Rosewood, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Abduction for obvious reasons

I also know that Blu Rays are likely being phased out of these box sets but for the price we should have still got Blu Rays if they weren't going to put the special features on the 4K disc.

Three bare 4ks with no special features just seems lazy.

For this reason I decided to just stick with my Blu Rays for the John Singleton films. I do have a stand alone of Boyz-n-tha-Hood on Blu Ray.

Now I will snatch up Poetic Justice when someone decides to sell it off individually on Etsy or Ebay or something. I collect Tupac films on all media formats. So as they become available I do plan to get them. I just don't see myself getting this set unless it drops below $50 on a Criterion sale or something (which won't probably happen).

Where Can I Get Upscaled 2K 4K and 1080P Music Videos?

Someone upscaled all of Janet's major videos and had them available for download some years back. I had them on an old laptop that died. I really wish I could find them again.

I had a folder of about 25 Janet music videos in excellent quality and I would play them via USB on my TV.

I love Youtube but I like having my favorite music videos saved.

I know there was a bootleg blu ray of all of her videos upscaled for sale on a site a while back. May have to go that route.

Dead Presidents Criterion Release Rare?

It is so hard to find. I have been looking for almost 3 years. I ended up breaking down and getting the fanedit 4k. I still would like to own the official Laserdisc.

How rare is it? I have never once seen it on Ebay and I have been looking.
