I watched the new Lupin III first and then went back to the old one

Now I get why so many people still love the original.

The new Lupin is cool. He's stylish, confident and always fun to watch.

The old Lupin feels different. Less polished, more dangerous. Like a guy who walks into a casino with no backup plan and somehow leaves with everyone's money anyway.

You never really know if he's bluffing, if he's a genius or if he's just crazy enough to make it work.

Maybe that's why I like the old version more. It feels less like a hero and more like you're watching someone who genuinely doesn't care what the odds are.

That old Lupin was built different.

Maybe Solo Leveling is more about gambling than I thought

When Jinwoo finally gets the item for his mother there still wasn't a 100% chance it would work and honestly this part hit me harder than most fights in the series.

Because what if it doesn't work ? What if after all of this she still doesn't wake up ? I feel like if it failed he would slowly start losing himself and looking for another solution no matter what.

And isn't that basically gambling ? Not money, but hope. As viewers we were sitting there waiting for the result too.

Maybe the highest stakes in anime aren't countries or money. Sometimes it's just one person waiting to see if their last chance actually works.

Joseph Joestar would be a nightmare for any casino

Not because he'd count cards.

Not because he'd cheat.

But because he'd spend the entire night looking for loopholes nobody else noticed.

Half of Joseph's victories come from convincing people to make mistakes.

That's the kind of player casinos hate the most.

Casino Owner Tier List #4

#5 — Tsunade (Naruto)

The casino is successful.

The owner somehow loses money anyway.

#4 — Yoruichi Shihouin (Bleach)

Great reputation.

Great people skills.

Probably the most enjoyable casino experience on the list.

#3 — Nami (One Piece)

Every game is fair.

Every rule is transparent.

You still leave with less money than you arrived with.

#2 — Kazuma Satou (Konosuba)

Makes terrible decisions.

Survives all of them.

Somehow remains profitable.

#1 — Joseph Joestar (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Nobody can prove he's cheating.

Nobody can prove he's not cheating either.

Either way, the house keeps winning.

Who would make the most money?

Which subreddit would be the best fit for anime clips related to gambling, casinos, risk-taking, and mind games?

I've noticed that a surprising number of anime include gambling-related themes.

Not necessarily gambling anime like Kakegurui, Kaiji, or Akagi, but things like:

  • casinos
  • poker faces
  • bluffing
  • high-risk decisions
  • mind games
  • all-or-nothing moments

Examples would be things like One Piece Film Gold, the Sky Casino arc in Bungo Stray Dogs, or the psychological battles in Death Note.

Would you consider this anime content, gambling content, psychology content, or something else entirely?

What subreddits would be the best fit for discussions and clips like these?

Title: Poker Face Rankings (Part 1)

#5 — Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End)

Frieren rarely shows strong emotions and almost never rushes into decisions.

You'd spend half the game trying to figure out whether she has a great hand or doesn't care about the outcome at all.

#4 — Crocodile (One Piece)

Crocodile always looks calm, even when everything around him is falling apart.

The problem is that his confidence alone would make you question every decision you're about to make.

#3 — Sosuke Aizen (Bleach)

Aizen's biggest strength isn't power.

It's making everyone believe he's already three steps ahead.

Even if he had a terrible hand, you'd probably fold first.

#2 — L (Death Note)

L would spend hours studying every tiny habit at the table.

The scary part is that he wouldn't need to bluff very often.

He'd already know when you're bluffing.

#1 — Light Yagami (Death Note)

For most of Death Note, Light is basically playing the world's most dangerous poker game.

Lying, bluffing, adapting, and somehow keeping a straight face under insane pressure.

That's why he takes the #1 spot for me.

Who did I miss?

My personal ranking from least dangerous to absolutely hopeless:

C-Tier: Nami
Smart enough to know the odds, greedy enough to ignore them

B-Tier: Kazuma
The kind of guy who loses everything and somehow still convinces himself he has a system

A-Tier: Hisoka
Not interested in money

Just addicted to risk and excitement

S-Tier: Lelouch
Would turn a 1% chance into a 50% chance through pure confidence

SS-Tier: Kaiji
The undisputed king of making terrible decisions and then surviving them somehow

Who am I missing this time?

My S-Tier ranking of the most degenerate gamblers in anime

My personal ranking from least dangerous to absolutely hopeless:

C-Tier: Luffy
Not really a gambler, but he treats every life-threatening situation like a reasonable investment

B-Tier: Tsunade
A legendary gambler with legendary bad luck

A-Tier: Kaiji
Always one bad decision away from disaster, yet somehow keeps coming back for more

S-Tier: Akagi
The kind of person who would bet everything and sleep like a baby afterward

SS-Tier: Yumeko Jabami
At this point, I'm not even sure she's gambling for money anymore

She's gambling for the feeling

Who would you add to the list?

The more anime I watch, the more I notice how often gambling-related themes show up

Not just in obvious examples like Kakegurui, Kaiji, or Akagi

I mean casinos, betting, bluffing, all-or-nothing decisions, jackpot moments, and characters risking everything on a single move

Sometimes it's a huge part of the story. Other times it's just a cool arc, like the flying casino in Bungo Stray Dogs or the casino city in One Piece Film Gold

Considering that a lot of anime is watched by teenagers and younger audiences, do you think this is just a storytelling device, or could it be seen as a form of indirect advertising for gambling?

I'm genuinely curious what other people think

Which anime character would lose their bankroll in a single weekend?

My vote goes to Tsunade

Yeah, she eventually became a Hokage and got her life together

But let's not forget that the first time we met her, she was basically running from debt collectors

If there was a casino in the Hidden Leaf, she'd somehow lose her own money, borrow yours, lose that too, and still be convinced the next bet would fix everything

How did an anime about literary geniuses end up with a flying casino?

Gambling doesn't even need to be the main theme

Risk, bluffing, and high stakes make almost any story more exciting

Bungo Stray Dogs is about literary geniuses with superpowers, and somehow it still ended up with a giant flying casino

And it actually worked

One of the reasons I love the Straw Hats is how genuinely they throw themselves into everything

Not gonna lie, this is exactly me and my friends whenever we're looking for a quick dopamine hit

As long as you're aware of what you're doing, it's a lot better than mindlessly wasting your time, money, and energy

Persona 5 Royal is kind of a weird mix of a JRPG, anime, school life simulator, social drama, and turn-based combat, but somehow it all works.

The story follows a group of teenagers known as the Phantom Thieves, who enter a supernatural world and change the hearts of corrupt people. One of the coolest parts of the game is the Palaces, huge dungeons created from a person's distorted desires.

There's even a Palace themed around a massive casino, which is easily one of the most memorable sections in the game. The whole place looks incredible and feels like a high-stakes gambling movie mixed with a heist.

It sounds like a strange combination on paper, but there's a reason Persona 5 Royal is considered one of the best JRPGs of the last decade

Junket Bank

• Official anime release: October 2026
• Underground casino setting
• Life-or-death gambling stakes
• Brutal psychological mind games
• Feels like a mix of Kakegurui and Kaiji

Logan Paul’s connection to One Piece is a pretty recent story about the famous YouTuber

Wrestler buying up rare manga and collectible TCG cards, which caused a huge backlash among fans

The official release date for Season 2 of No Game No Life still hasn’t been announced. We’ve been waiting forever for this anime with genuinely high stakes and mind games.

Despite the massive popularity of the series and interest from light novel creator Yuu Kamiya, studio Madhouse still hasn’t confirmed a continuation. Since the first season aired in 2014 and the movie No Game No Life: Zero released in 2017, the project has basically remained frozen, while Season 2 rumors continue to be denied by official sources
