failing recruiter screens for deployment strategist role

I am not in CS, but I am applying for CSM-adjacent roles such as deployment strategist/FDE. I am tired of failing these interviews. Every failed interview feels like I will never be able to apply to that company ever again.

Problem: I have been getting a fair number of recruiter screen intervews; sometimes I even get inbound. But I keep failing them. I have completed 5-6 recruiter screens consecutively over the past few months. Is this a common experience nowadays given the employer's market, or is it a pattern specific to me?

Observations:

  • Recruiter screens are now done directly by the HM, COS or founder.
  • Screens are now getting harder compared to what I used to have 3-4 years ago. I recall I used to take screening calls in between work calls without extensive preparation, where the recruiter would ask me a few questions before passing my resume on to the HM.
  • I face a conundrum where I spend a few days understanding the company and the product while also polishing my own answers. At the same time, I don't want to overinvest in what might be a screen that I would fail, leading to 10-20 hours of effort wasted.
  • I am finding myself underprepared for the kind of questions that are being asked. I really need to practice my STAR answers more and be more structured in sharing my experiences.
  • Most of the interviews that I have given recently involve an AI note-taker, which means that now I have to optimize for my notes to be read in text by a hiring manager instead of making an impression live

How is my resume getting selected, but I am not making it past the recruiter screen?

sweden vs norway in tech

I am in the tech scene in North America, and tech influencers often talk about the slow pace of growth and innovation in Europe

I am interested in comparing two cultures that are arguably very similar: Norway and Sweden. Sweden has had multiple recognized brands such as Spotify, Klarna and Lovable. Stockholm is considered a tech capital for Europe.

Norway does not have any equivalent brands. Why is that? Is it the Janteloven? The hygge? Is there some cultural difference that I am not aware of?

Islamic arts on Instagram even today

Have you seen any of these Instagram accounts that show how Islamic arts and crafts continue to thrive in India? Now that artists can showcase their work on Instagram, more people globally will be interested in buying what they have to offer. The arts and crafts thrive.

Like this fusion carpet, calligraphy, traditional marble decor, and Islamic calligraphy. Even Omani massar and ghutrah are made by craftsmen in Kashmir.

Medical college education in Pakistan

Have any of you gone to a medical college in Pakistan? I know that Pakistan has a few medical seats reserved for the Indian-administered Kashmir. So know that some people are going to places like Iran or Bangladesh for medical college.

How was your experience? Were you able to come back and work here?

recruiter does not cancel but delays calls with HM

The recruiter for a job I applied to called me on Thursday and set up a time on Monday for the hiring manager to speak to me. Then he pushed the call with the HM to Tuesday.

On Monday, he cancelled the call and said he'll get back to me to reschedule it for Friday. That has not happened today. Other alternative candidates in the pipeline, and they found them more interesting than my profile.

Do you think I should follow up next week? Would it not be courteous on their end to cancel the interview completely?

Did you get any specific hate when you were growing up as a tall person?

I was already 6 ft. by the time I was in grade five. I was taller than all my teachers and my school headmaster. Here are a few problems I faced:

- Every time I got bullied by someone shorter than me, the teachers did not take my complaints seriously. At least on one occasion, the headmaster said, "How can a guy who is shorter than him hurt him?"

- People would normally ask me if I had Marfan syndrome or gigantism to make fun of the fact that I was so tall and lanky and moved weirdly.

- could not express the desire to make friends or be offended when I my friends hurt me

- Being called a lamppost, which in my language also rhymes with tall

friend wore elevator shoes

I recently met a friend who was wearing elevator shoes with 2-3 inch heels in public. They must be new, coz he had a penguin walk and was not yet fully comfortable walking in them. It also seemed somewhat unsafe because you cannot actually run on these shoes in case of an emergency, and the poor walking balance/higher center of gravity increases the risk of a fall/trip.

It was awkward coz I have known his real height in person (around 5"4), and with these shoes, he looked 5"7 at best and was approaching my shoulder. He was not that height-insecure in our home country, but apparently became so when he moved to a Western country.

He already takes steroids to build excessive muscle mass at his height. When we were biking, he could not even bike a normal distance because he never does cardio. Being the gracious person I am, I have not acknowledged either the steroid use or the elevator shoes.

Have you experienced this before? What did it make you feel?

do kashmiris migrate away

Do Kashmiris migrate away?

By migration, I mean seeking refuge, asylum, or economic migration elsewhere, anywhere from the Gulf countries to North America or Europe. I have met very few Kashmiris outside of South Asia, only one family during years of living in the Gulf. On the other hand, a lot of Rohingya and Uyghur would live in the Gulf, given the state of oppression in their homeland.

I know that it's not a permanent solution to the problem that they're facing. But a lot of diasporas respond to oppression by migrating and building leverage elsewhere. Palestinians and Armenians are a great example of this. Their struggle is more relevant today because their diaspora carries it away from the homeland.

What do you think of the rise of the desi looksmaxxer?

I am increasingly seeing brown kids making looksmaxxing content. u/barclayahmed and @AK pilled are who I am thinking of. I have even seen some content in Hindi based outside of India.

I have engaged in my fair bit of looksmaxxing: skincare, peels, working out, and I had to learn my way through Reddit/YouTube/Tiktok. These are all decent things to do regardless, as part of a good grooming/self-care routine. But the increasingly niche advice like mewing, coloured contacts and skin lightening seems a little out there.

Some of the content makes me think it must be nice that young brown kids have more advice on how to look presentable, even if their parents have objections, as mine did, while at the same time being concerned about the harmful impact it would have on teens growing up.
