Cartimandua was another British queen who lived at the same time as Boudica.
Unlike Boudica, she was firmly pro-Roman and one of the eleven British rulers who surrendered to Rome without a fight.
In AD 51, the British leader Caratacus fled to Cartimandua after being defeated by the Romans. Instead of protecting him, she betrayed him and handed him over to Rome.
When Boudica rebelled against Rome in AD 60, Cartimandua stayed loyal to the Romans. Nero never gave this queen any trouble. Later, she divorced her husband, Venutius, married his bodyguard Vellocatus, and made him her co-ruler.
Venutius rebelled but was defeated with Roman help. In AD 69, during Rome's civil war, he revolted again. This time, the Romans could only evacuate Cartimandua.
This queen was eventually overthrown by her ex-husband and lost her throne.
