making a post each time I add something this project

Kind of a beginner, this is pretty much just 2 animated shape paths but somehow I spent about 4 hours working on it even though something similar can be easily done in any 3d software. I know that integrating elements from other software for compositing in AE is itself a whole can of worms though.

So my question is are there benefits to doing it 2d like this? I know AE also have 3d stuffs natively. How does one decide, from doing it themselves?

Is there anything cool I can use this for so it doesn't feel like a complete waste of time.. ?
