Septemboriginals
This is my half-baked name for a theme month in September, in which episodes are dedicated to Tubi originals. That’s all. Just had to get it off my chest.

I promise this isn't a long, convoluted, "You need to hear this dream" post. I don't remember many details, but I was so proud of my subconscious for coming up with this, and I wrote it down when I woke up.
I was teaching a college course about about the Hulk, and it was some sort of world where the Hulk and Hulk-related characters existed because I was teaching stuff as fact. The only specific I remember is the name of my lecture: It's Not Easy Peeing Green: An Examination of Kidney Function in Gamma-Irradiated Individuals.
That's all.
Our wonderful hosts love to highlight awesome movie soundtracks, and I’m wondering what your go-to soundtracks are.
One of my all-time favorites is Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The only song that got much radio play was Breakaway by Big Pig, but to me every song on there is just so much fun and worthy of being played loudly. My favorite track is Walk Away by Bricklin.
Another soundtrack I love is Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman’s score to Michael Mann’s Last of the Mohicans. It’s so beautiful and heartfelt, and it was the first instrumental soundtrack I developed an attachment to.
How ‘bout y’all?
Yesterday I was on the road and stopped by an awesome cafe called The Three Mountain Cafe in Waitsfield, VT. Among the cool stuff therein, I found this watercolor painting of our favorite alien life form. (I apologize because this is not a very good photo. There should not be a weird glare on Gordon’s crotch.)
There were no prints available, so if I wanted it, I had to buy the original that was on the wall. After debating the potential for divorce, I made the purchase.
The painting was created by a person who goes by Watercolors By Joshy, and if you’d like to get this painting on a pair of sneakers, a blanket, a bomber jacket, or any of a wide variety of other media, you can visit https://www.watercolorsbyjoshy.com/search?q=Alf
There’s also a ton of other great pop culture ephemera that this artist makes, and I kind of want to buy it all.
Sounds like he’s recovered, but this has to be a truly terrifying thing to experience. I deal with intense brain fog due to long covid, which is frustrating, but it’s got to be nothing compared to this. I’m glad you’re doing better, Len. Sending you good thoughts for the MRI!
This is cool news. Love seeing Joe Bob being brought in for something like this. Can’t wait to read what he has to say.
And I’m here for every second of it!!!
Amazing Venom #1 (of 5) is on stands in September. Congrats to Jordan on this big project. I’m so proud to call myself a fan.
I enjoyed it. I’ve always liked Boston Brand, and I thought the team did a good job starting him off from an interesting status quo. I’m far from a Deadman expert, but I think the >!costume changes and fourth wall breaking!< are new for him, and I thought both worked well. I appreciated how the creators locked onto Boston’s sense of humor but avoided the obvious and didn’t turn him into Deadpool. The horror elements were pretty good, too. I’ll definitely check out the next issue.
I am so psyched to check this out when it’s up and running. My big hope for channel guests is Emily’s mom and dad. I would love to see them together, making stuff and telling stories.
All three of our podcast hosts are such talented people. We are very fortunate to be able to listen to them collaborate and hang out!
Sometimes this dingus is just too much. Hard not to love her!
I’m late as hell to this party, but holy cats! Thao & the Get Down Stay Down are incredible. Than you, your Honor.
In this Top Gun ripoff, Nic Cage plays Topper Harley Maverick the pilot guy, Sean Young plays the love interest, Tommy Lee Jones plays the Tommy Lee Jones character. The plot is that drug cartels are bad and the answer is badass helicopters and Nic Cage. Like Top Gun the majority of the movie is set in the training school. Nic is an ace pilot but of course has a major weakness he has to overcome and a girl to win over. Jones is the instructor past his prime and... well, if you don't remember this plot I hope your recovery from your recent traumatic brain injury goes well.
Tommy Lee Jones is surprisingly less surly in his role playing Tommy Lee Jones playing the helicopter teacher. He's super supportive to the troops, saying, "Great flying" and "You can be the best", not the matter-of-fact grouch he perfected in The Fugitive a few years later and then spent the rest of his career playing off of. Word is, he and Young were both struggling with film career lows and took pay cuts.
Sean Young is pretty much Sean Young, wavering between sorta sexy and "don't stick your junk in crazy" vibes. Even though Cage is crazy, too, I dunno, hers doesn't feel like the good kind. After watching this film I went down a rabbit hole of her Letterman appearances. She's an odd mix of bubbly one moment and then in the next she's got more loose screws than a walmart bicycle. In the last appearance in 2011 she's basically begging for work and Dave is kind of done with her while also running out a joke of using a bull whip on her kids a bit too far. It's kind of sad. "I'm kind of introverted so I don't call people, but I'm not difficult, please call me." Weird.
Cage Moment 1: Nic is in the heli simulator building toward a Nic-gasm over how awesome he is.
Cage Moment 2: This is my favorite. Nic is worried his girlfriend will get hurt in combat and they argue, so she shoves him into the friend zone. "FRIENDS?!!" he exclaims, then proceeds to do what can only be called a "Nic kick" in frustration at absolutely nothing.
The final battle is legitimately good and where ~97% of the budget was spent. In keeping with the participation trophy flavor of Tommy Lee Jones, everybody ends up in the fight and does their part. It actually works. Sean Young does a Rae Dawn Chong rocket launcher to the ass of a jet - which incidentally has the aim of a storm trooper as it misses twice in two strafing runs. They could have just waited for it to run out of bullets probably. Nic takes on the final boss. Then there's Genesis music over the credits.
Not as bad as I thought. Makes a good rainy sunday or folding laundry film.
Ziti loves being outside once warm weather decides to show up. Today she logged a ton of time protecting the house from chipmunks, rolling in the grass, and being her adorable self.
I’ve done some digging because I thought it was shared at some point, but I can’t find the recipe that Dave Shumka likes to use for rhubarb cordial. Does anybody know where I could find it? I’d love to give it a try, and I’ve already got rhubarb taking over my garden.
I find this very liberating.
