Day two or three of this heatwave, surface soil temps in the prairie zones have only risen around 7F, turf areas in full sun have increased about 10F a day.

Edit: yes, surface temps. Was moving quickly on my way in to shower after working in 95F heat for an hour and missed an important word. I am aware of how soil works and that deeper soil doesn’t heat up on the same time frames. Surface soil temps impact evaporation/drought, the surface level biome, deeper temps, and the heat island effect. With so many conversations around trees being planted to mitigate urban heat, I wanted to show that you could get good cooling effects via ground level shade and plant respiration without having to wait over a decade for good shade trees to grow in.

She just dropped a furisode version 😭😭😭 I absolutely cannot justify the expense right now, this is so fucked up 😭 all I can do is drool rn.

I haven’t been able to find the OP of this musubi I’ve seen around and been obsessed with for years! I can *sort of* figure out the general ideas, but I’m struggling to get the ears. Anyone know of a good tutorial? Thanks!

Posted here last month or so about my ass out G. pulchra who’d been absolutely Donald Ducking it for over a year, having not molted since I moved here four years ago. After I threatened to call the spider police to have him arrested for indecent exposure he finally caved and agreed to put some pants on.

I put on some Siouxie and the Banshees while he worked on his style update in the hope that he’d pop out more goth this time (you’re a Brazilian BLACK, not a Brazilian brunette, have some self respect!) and it seems to have worked.

This was the first time my previously severely arachnophobic bf (I fixed him) witnessed any of my ranchos molting as the others are less exhibitionist and do that shit in private and I accidentally traumatized him 😭

He was actually the one that first noticed that the lil guy had put the “invert” in “invertebrate.” He called me over with the biggest wettest eyes and just pointed at the enclosure. In my excitement I forgot that the average person doesn’t know that ranchos lay on their backs to molt. I cheered “oh my god FINALLY!” before realizing, based on his horrified expression, that bf thought he had keeled over and died and that I was celebrating 😭

Lil mans didn’t move from first discovery at 9PM through when we went to sleep and bf kept asking if I was *sure* he was gonna be ok as we were getting in bed. Dear sweet thing.

Thanks for all the support for my deviant son, I think together we manifested something that may have taken another 3-5 business years to occur otherwise 😂

Felt like I was going crazy with all the R. lanciniata replies, I couldn’t see it at all but y’all gaslit me so hard I was trying to find info on ecotype variants and other mutations to explain it 😂

They’re one of my cosmetic favorites. Stunning foliage and stems, adorable dainty flowers, pretty almost star anise-y seed heads, gorgeous fall color.

I remember my friend and I excitedly cooing over a dense patch of cute little sprouts that started popping up on a site we’d prepped and planted the previous fall several years back… ended up being a bunch of several highly aggressive creeping invasives that made our lives hell that whole growing season 🫣 Prepped well but traveling seeds gonna travel.

Now every new sprout gets The Thing treatment. I don’t know which of you are who you say you are but everyone’s being viewed with suspicion and hostility until they get a positive ID 🔫 😑

May your friendly sprouts be many and vigorous and may your invasives flee and perish this year 🪄
