Jealous of dad

My husband is so supportive in my pp journey and i’m so very grateful for how hands on he is. part of that is feeding baby 95% of her bottles so that I can pump in that time. But sometimes I feel like they’re getting so much special bonding time together and i’m left out :( he tries to include me or get me to feed her but i’m an under supplier, just enougher if i push myself to 9 pumps in a day and she has to contact nap on me so if i don’t pump while she eats i’ll miss a pump. I know my baby loves me, and it’s all just in my head because i’m still grieving my breastfeeding journey, but it’s just sad sometimes.

can’t get a letdown :(

my MOTN pumps are starting to just upset me. i can’t get let downs (i’m doing all the things- looking at baby, trying to relax, lean forward, etc) and it’s so frustrating. i am going back to bed despite not feeling empty because i can’t stay up indefinitely for this. i barely got anything more than my usual daytime pumps.

please reassure me

my in laws have a pretty strong track record of ignoring illnesses / showing up to family events sick without warning and getting everybody sick. i have a 7 week old baby and in laws coming into town tomorrow, and they chose today to let me know one person has a cold. no asking how i felt
about it, no offering to stay away, just to let me know. we told them we aren’t comfortable with this family member around our baby with a cold (even though they insist they’ve been sick over a week and are on the tail end— but also did say they’re draining a ton still which doesn’t sound like tail end to me).

i have a lot of deep rooted people pleasing trauma and their energy really impacts me negatively when they’re upset, which they obviously are based off their short responses. am i being ridiculous for not wanting them to be around my baby if symptomatic even if it’s been a long lingering cold? my husband is in total agreement with me and is handling all the communication needed right now, but i still have a pit in my stomach and can’t trust my instincts.

what do you do

when your baby is sleeping on you and it’s time to pump? putting her down will wake her and that feels cruel, but missing a pump has bigger impacts as i’m an under supply trying to get to be just enougher. feel stuck between a rock and a hard place most days.

when to start sleep sack?

my baby is 7 weeks old and the last three nights in a row i’ve woken to her fussing and when i look in her bassinet, she’s managed to get herself completely diagonal so her head and feet are in the mesh sides and she’s (reasonably) annoyed by this. if i pick her up and settle her and put her back, she stays in the middle. is there any safety concern here im missing with her being swaddled? she is not close to rolling over. thank you!

Hope & Plum Sprout vs Lark

My baby is 7 weeks old and 10.5 lbs and 22in long, i’m wanting a carrier that they can grow with for a bit and is supportive for my lower back. I’ve seen the Lark be recommended a ton here, but their website points me towards the Sprout based off size.

Has anybody used the lark for a newborn? is the sprout good for past 6 months (it says 24 lbs) or would I need to buy the Lark in a few months anyway? I’m very new to baby wearing and just want something easy and comfortable for both me and my LO as I am alone with her most of the day and cannot keep sitting in her nursery for every contact nap, but i’d like to use it when we eventually get out of the house more too!

Do you ever just

have one of those pumping sessions that suck? i pump 8ppd and have been for over a month now and some times i still have those sessions where my flange positioning feel off, i can’t get a let down, etc. and it’s so frustrating. especially currently during a MOTN pump 😅 like it’s totally just a “we’ll get em next time” type of thing but so annoying

respectfully

women who have to exclusively pump postpartum are not having the same experience as women who are nursing from the breast. i’m resentful and annoyed at all my friends who didn’t have this journey and tell me they understand how tired or hard it is. respectfully, no you do not.

opinion: what impacts supply most?

assuming you are pumping the same amount and same times every day, what do you think impacts supply most? i’m current doing my MOTN pump and noticing i’ll get about 1oz less tonight and im wondering why — is it cause im in a bad mood? did i drink less? eat less? curious what your thoughts are!

Newborn fights every nap?

My baby is 7 weeks old and screams when it’s time to sleep every single nap NO MATTER WHAT. she isn’t over her wake window, i watch for first sign of sleepy clues and it doesn’t matter what position i hold her in, she’s not cold, she’s not hot, she’s not hungry, she just cries. she is fine when she is awake and doesn’t cry during play time or tummy time etc. why does she fight naps so hard? what am i doing wrong?

the variability is killing me

i am EP right now and the part that has been the hardest is how each pump is so different in terms of output. i am currently building my supply by pumping 8x a day and the anxiety of not knowing if i will make enough to cover baby’s nutritional needs in a day is a lot. also, when i get a random pump that isnt great i take it so personally. for example i just did my MOTN pump and got the same amount i normally get in the day (usually get way more) and my slacker boob yielded double what my workhorse boob did. what!? is something wrong then? the lack of consistency in this process is really annoying.

Feel like a horrible mom

I just can’t get the scheduling down to where i am feeding and pumping before my baby gets overtired. how are you guys doing it? i feel so horrible hearing my baby so sad when i can barely soothe her to sleep, it makes this not feel worth it. i need some morale boost bad that my baby will be okay.

reflux help

my baby (6 weeks old) is 90% fed with expressed BM but we do supplement here and there. she has some reflux either way (arching back after eating sometimes etc.) regardless of if we feed her BM or formula and we always do paced bottle feeding, burp her half way, and keep her upright after. we have tried the bobbie organic whole milk and the kedamil goat milk and both make her writhe and scream in pain for 1 hour + after eating and she spits up formula but never BM. do you have any recommendations for a formula to switch to? i don’t care the cost i just want to find one that isn’t causing her such discomfort, assuming there’s an ingredient in both but not sure which? tia!!!

To pacifier or not?

we have a 6 week old and have not introduced pacifiers yet. she can calm down from our soothing pretty easily so far and can be rocked to bed easily so far, but i see people on here say it’s better than sucking her thumb. when does that start, should we introduce a pacifier ahead of that? i was not planning on giving her one simply because i didn’t want to wean her but seems like a thumb sucking phase is inevitable? not sure what to do!

spectra isn’t emptying me

i’ve been doing a ton of work to raise my supply and wasn’t seeing result despite my breasts feeling heavier. i was getting so discouraged and thought maybe the heaviness was just them regulating. but then i got four clogged ducts in a week and that seemed quite odd to me. i used my madela hand pump today and got about double the amount (i’ve been averaging 1.25-1.5 on the right and 1-1.25 on the left and tonight i got 3 on the right and 1.75 on the left. the flanges i am using the madela are the same size as the spectra. not sure what to do with this as the madela takes longer than the spectra (i have weak hands) and is not a sustainable option for me to do 8x a day. any ideas? i did reach out to my LC but she doesn’t have an appointment for over a week and this feels like it cant wait the long.

am i chasing a pipe dream?

i am 6 weeks postpartum and went from pumping 4-5x a day and producing 15-17oz (i was also BFing) to exclusively pumping 8x a day with a power pump and producing around 18oz over the last week.

Am i chasing a pipe dream that i can produce enough to not have to supplement eventually? i am truly miserable pumping but feel like the possibility of me making enough is what is keeping me hanging on. i fear for my mental health if i don’t get there or have to start supplementing more.

so far this feeding experience has not been anything like i hoped and its really negatively impacting my postpartum experience, but im trying to remain hopeful while i grieve what i thought it would look like. any positivity or just realness will help.

sleeping on the go?

so how do people get babies that “can sleep anywhere” or “through any noise”. i’m a FTM to a 6 week old and we tried to take a day of weather reprieve and went to the park with our baby! i thought that she might fall asleep on the blanket we had set up as we were all just relaxing but she did not and tipped into overtired on the way home. I want a baby that can hang but not at the expense of her getting overtired and distraught every time we try to leave the house. any tips would be amazing!
