The building physically hurts to be in

I don’t know what it is, but my body starts hurting when I go in. I’ve had chronic pain for a while, and it always got worse at work. Not even throughout my shift, but as soon as I would walk in, a part of my body would suddenly hurt.

Walked in today after quitting to gather my things. My back still hurts from pulling it at work a couple days ago. But maybe 20 feet into the store, I get this insane stabbing pain in my upper leg around my hip. Never felt that pain before!

Just confirms my theory that this place is actually just a torture chamber.

Why can I go to look at frogs?

Where are the frogs? I love frogs, and the ones by my house have gone away for a bit. Where can I go to look at done frogs right now?

People who say they got banned for their opinion, but actually they were being weird/mean

I have yet to see a post where people complain about being banned for “no reason” or “simply stating an opinion” where that was actually the case.

I’m not saying it doesn’t happen!

I’m sure it does happen, but not nearly to the extent people claim.

It’s so annoying to see someone post this complaint, give juuuust enough context to make them seem like the victim, and then when you actually look at what they said, they were being weird and/or mean.

Like they’ll have stated their opinion in a way that makes it obvious they don’t want an actual constructive back and forth discussion. They’ll have said it in a snarky way, imply anyone who disagrees is a bad person, and/or just overall seem like they’re baiting.

Then the comments are like “YES SO TRUE” gassing OP up.

I know some mods are actually insane and just do whatever the hell they want, but you should still take some time to self reflect to see if maybe you were talking to people crazy lol

Leaky coolers?

Guys, are all your coolers leaking? We have those long gray absorbent socks every 5 feet to maintain the puddles from all the leaks. Damn near every cooler and freezer in the store is leaking.

Is this normal for Kroger? Is this just a grocery store thing? Or are we just way too cheap to get broken shit fixed?

Morality of Slum Tourism?

What’s the morality of this?

“Slum tourism, poverty tourism, ghetto tourism or trauma tourism is a type of tourism that involves visiting impoverished areas, or in some cases, areas that were affected by disasters, such as nuclear falloutzones like Chernobyl or Fukushima (hence the term "trauma tourism"). Originally focused on the slums and ghettos of London and Manhattan in the 19th century, slum tourism is now prominent in South Africa, India, Brazil, Kenya, and the Philippines.”

What made you watch the movie?

I had seen so many clips online, but the one that finally made me go “Okay, I’m too interested now. I gotta watch this” was when Nikki was at Bear’s car and went, “Yeah? I’m sorry. Yeah?”

It was so weird that I had to know more, so I watched it that night.

“They can’t accept criticism”

My boss in Christ, have you considered that all you do is criticize?!

When is the last time you told them that they did something well? Have you ever told them that they’ve improved at something? Have you ever said “good job” or “thank you” with genuine sincerity and not out of a feeling of obligation? Have you ever even asked them how they’re doing and meant it? Have you asked them what you can do to help them be better at their job?

No, you haven’t. Because all you do is demand excellence and efficiency, forgetting completely that you are talking to a human being.

I love the radio

I love free music!!!! I love pressing buttons to get instant free music. I love that there are so many stations that when an ad pops up, you can just switch to one that isn’t playing an ad. I love the variety of genres! I love hearing songs that I love but would not have thought to put on. I love hearing songs that I love and FORGOT EVEN EXISTED IN THE FIRST PLACE! I love hearing new songs!!! I love when the DJ talks about their day.

What are people saying to me when they tell me “Jesus loves you”?

I work at a grocery store and am visibly queer (I’m transgender, but most people think I’m a lesbian).

[Please don’t tell me that I shouldn’t be transgender in the comments. It won’t work, especially coming from a stranger. I will happily answer good-faith questions, though.]

Sometimes older folks will thank me and then tell me “Jesus loves you”.

Yesterday, a woman looked really serious at me and followed it up with “You know that, right?”

Is it just something they tell everybody, or are they trying to save my soul because they’re assuming I’m not religious?

What does it mean? What are they trying to say? What’s the intent? Is it them trying to comfort me, cheer me up, or make me want to be Christian?

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

-

Edit: Thank you all for your comments! Some of y’all are filled with so much love and compassion, and that really brightens my day.

Even if we don’t share the same religious beliefs, it is comforting to know that so many of us share the same believe that love is really what it’s all about. We’re just using different formulas to get to the same solution <3

Expressing that you want something but not telling me what that is

My job has two different tasks: bag groceries and push baskets. There usually aren’t enough people scheduled to do these things well, so I tend to stay on baskets as to let the others do what I feel like is the easier, more comfortable job.

Well, as I’m pushing baskets, one of the other clerks says, “Hey, since there are only three of us, we should take turns bagging, and so-and-so is in there now.”

Okay, yeah. Makes sense. So I think… Wait, does he like pushing baskets or bagging more? What about the other guy’s preference? Is he asking me to stop baskets now and go bag? Or am I fine right now?

And then I say, “Okay, just let me know what you want me to do.” Because I can infer, but I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

He goes, “Well, I can’t tell you what to do, because I’m not your boss.” and walks off

Uh. So. What? What do you want me to do?!?! Because if you hate baskets, I don’t mind doing that all day. Same with bagging. Do you want me to switch now? Or are you giving me a heads up that you’re gonna switch? Or telling me to switch in a little bit? LIKE I ASSUME YOU WANT ME TO SWITCH, BUT WHEN?!?!

Maintenance and utility supplies should not affect management bonus

There’s no reason why anyone should be disincentivized to replace broken devices and equipment or buy cleaning supplies. Our store is barely functioning and *gross*.

Our store manager is so stingy. All of the wet vacs are broken, we are consistently out of hand soap, there is only one spill station in our 100,000 sq ft store, you can’t walk 5ft without seeing a massive puddle leaking from a cooler/freezer, and there’s only one broom with a handle that isn’t broken in half.

And that’s just from the utilities side. We literally have no phones or price checkers on the floor anymore (only phones in each department) because they all broke and haven’t been replaced. There’s only one pallet jack that isn’t messed up in some way. Half the carts are hard to push, won’t go in a straight line, an/or make an ungodly amount of noise. AND THE AMOUNT OF BUCKETS WE HAVE TO PUT OUT WHEN IT RAINS IS CRAZY!!! WHY DOES OUR CEILING HAVE SO MANY HOLES?!?!

Of course, everything we order takes money out of his bonus, so he doesn’t mind! Not like he’s doing any of the work anyway!

I’m sure it’s not *all* his fault, but I know for certain that a lot of it is.

Fuck Kroger for not giving a fuck. It is so demoralizing working in a store that’s falling apart. It didn’t used to be this bad…

How do I get ideas for repurposing/reusing?

I have a habit of keeping things because they might be useful later, especially containers and anything with metal or solid wood. Right now I just saved my empty earplug container with a lid that flips up on one side.

The problem is, sometimes I just have no idea what to do with them. Like I have sooooo many glass jars from pasta sauce that my husband won’t let me keep any more. And I’ll have the urge to keep some things that I don’t think have *any* purpose, like a broken globe. (My husband said if I can’t think of something to do with it in the next week, he’s throwing it away.)

I’ve seen crazy cool repurposing before. Just watched a video where a guy turned a giant old rusted torch thing into a pool-side umbrella with towel hooks??? So cool.

How the HELL do people come up with this kinda stuff? How do I come up with ideas on repurposing?

Thanks in advance.

PS: My husband is great at keeping my pack-rat tendencies in check. I’m aware that I would have a big problem if I had less self restraint and more closet space.

What are some unusual coping skills you guys have developed?

My BIL is disgusting and leaves atrocious messes everywhere (especially in the kitchen). I started taking pictures and color picking to make color palettes out of them. It kinda helps to kinda reframe it and see some beauty in the grossness. Adds some humor to the situation. Also, making color palettes in general is super relaxing!!!

Is Sage required?

In the Fresh Start refresher today, the only two correct options for submitting a time off request were submitting the request in Sage and waiting to see if your supervisor approved it.

Is Sage required to use? I tried it, and it’s just one of those annoying customer service chatbots you see on a company website that won’t pay for actual customer service employees.

Is it replacing MyTime? Or is it just one of those things that Kroger dumped a lot of money into, so they really want people to use it?

There is no reason anyone should wear so much cologne that I can smell it OUTSIDE from TEN FEET AWAY

I swear to God, I will engineer autism into a contagious bacteria that lives forever and transmits through the air. I will make it my mission to infect every person on Earth with autism. Soon, everyone will be sensitive to sensory inputs and NOBODY WILL EVER BATHE IN FUCKING COLOGNE EVER AGAIN.

AND WHY IS IT ALWAYS COLOGNE?????? WHY IS IT ALWAYS THAT NASTY ASS SHARP, MUSKY ODOR????????? WHY CAN IT NEVER AT LEAST BE CHERRY BLOSSOM PERFUME????????
