There’s a new app on Steam that lets you play VR games with your VR controllers or joycons, using your monitor/TV rather than the HMD (PortalVR)

I’m not affiliated, this is just something I always wanted to do going back to the Vive. Has anyone tried it? Does it work correctly and not mess up your steamVR install/settings? How is it for beat saber?

Help navigating auto shop process on cosmetic damage to driver door

2023 Chevy bolt EUV

I’ve dealt with two cars for the family and going to the shop and talking to insurance, one was ultimately totaled, the other was being repaired for way longer than estimated and I made the mistake of letting them pick the rental car for me so it ended up costing me a bunch. So I’m somewhat apprehensive about shops now because I feel like they replaced more than they needed to and didn’t provide me any options or choices.

This time the issue is that someone backed into the driver side door and put a large dent into it. Airbag didn’t deploy, car was drivable, no noticeable reduction in the functionality of the door in any way. They claimed responsibility so technically they’re paying.

I took it to a new shop and was quoted for a replacement door, some replacement panels (two to “color blend”), but they told me there may be more repairs needed once they disassemble the car and potentially find more issues. This was frustrating because I’m most concerned about finding out if there is any non cosmetic damage to the car, and they didn’t even pop the hood.

I feel torn because I don’t want to have to get a call increasing the estimate and adding a lot of new repairs and replacements, I don’t want to drive a rental gas car, I don’t want to deal with delays where I just have to accept that I’m going to be on the hook for the rental car past the 30 days the insurance pays for, and they seemed to suggest that they wouldn’t be able to make sure the new door matches the color of the old one. On the other hand I 100% don’t want to risk some actual damage being unnoticed and causing even larger repairs later down the line or at least the same repairs but with me having to foot the bill out of pocket.

What are my options? Just a second opinion? Can I ask a shop to disassemble the car enough to find potential serious damage before I commit to them doing the repairs? Will insurance cover that? Can I go through the repairs suggested and tell them I don’t want certain things? Are there people who repair doors instead of replacing them?

New toaster is unsafe, alternatives?

Edit: Toaster Ovens only, I don’t eat toast, sorry that that was unclear.

I bought a Breville non pro toaster (no air fryer) because it looks premium and we wanted a simple toaster without the air fryer part that seemed to just make the toaster function worse.

It was all good except every surface on the toaster except the handle bar was scalding hot to the touch and multiple people have burned their fingers. We’re returning it and I’m looking for a new toaster that’s safer and more insulated, ideally about the same large size, is going to be reasonably durable, with a budget of $200 max. Worse case scenario I guess just one that’s safe and cooks well and within budget.

PDT Rule Change?

https://www.schwab.com/learn/story/schwab-changes-rules-around-day-trading

I don’t really understand what this is saying? Is this saying that the old rules are gone entirely and there’s no such thing as a PDT? Before if you had a margin account under $25K and you got the label, you could only have one position open with unsettled cash and then it would only let you sell, not buy anything, until that was resolved.

What does it do now? Treat you the same as if you didn’t have the PDT label?

Parents got bamboozled, is it an easy fix?

My parents bought a toaster, the wrong one, and accidentally bought a BestBuy+.

Can I return the toaster without having them or their cc there if I have the receipt email?

Is it easy to get the bestbuy+ membership canceled and refunded? They didn’t know they were buying it and I’m really annoyed by bestbuy and don’t plan to shop there anymore.

What’s a good sub $400 car fridge?

I have an electric car and I want to install a car fridge in the trunk. Basically it would need to keep food cool for 7-8 hours, with a battery that can last roughly that long so that when the car is parked and off the fridge is still running, and then it charges back up when the car is running. Ideally it could hold a bag of groceries. A freezer compartment is nice if it doesn’t impact the fridge size, but it’s not essential.

Combine Accounts?

I bought an account for a family member with some discount, and then realized we could probably just fit them under one account and it would be easier with our three devices. Can I combine the two accounts and get all the time in one?

We drove really far to buy a car in new york state, bought it after a lot of haggling and waiting, and they ended up selling us the car but with financing (we paid it off in full after the second installment as agreed) a lot of junk on top when we picked it up later. We went back and got them to take off the extra stuff we never agreed to, and then again a family member went to them to get them to put it in writing. It has now been almost a year and they still haven't actually sent the money (2,000) that they owe us.

I have the Retail Installment Contract (the car is paid off), the purchase agreement, and a "Canceled Contract" document that says we are owed the money by the dealer.

At this point we want to complain to state authorities to get the money, what office in New York do I contact to get this dealt with?
