Pennie Way in Stages (and over multiple trips)

Wondering if anyone has completed the Pennine Way in stages and over the course of multiple trips. Due to my 'busy' life and schedule I don't have that many days off all at once to be able to walk the whole thing in one trip.

Has anyone got any experience with leaving it and picking it back up after a few weeks?

I am SO tired!

Started on lamotrigine around a week ago and since I started taking it I’ve been so tired, my whole body and muscles feel fatigued and even after napping/sleeping I still feel tired.

Is this normal? Does it go away?

Helinox Chair Zero LT

Anyone got experience with this chair? How is it? - especially for people who carry a bit more round their stomach and legs.

Want a nice chair to use after a long walk, used a sitpad and it's just not comfortable if I decide to take a book and read.

Also any other chair recommendations are appreciated!

Lamotrigine Prescription

I’ve received a message today from my neurologist that I will start on 15mg of lamotrigine and work my way up to 70mg.

It’s not a medication I’m too aware of and it’s taken around 3 and a half years to be given something to manage my seizures.

Is there anything I need to be aware of? How are your experiences of this medication?

Best Place to Sell Cards?

I have around 40 numbered and mini-diamond cards from Galaxy 2025 that I'm looking to sell (I've been planning on doing it a long time but just haven't got round to it). I completed the set (every base and base refractor and all of the 4 'main' insert sets) and just want to sell the other bits I don't want to keep.

Is there anyone or anywhere in the UK that would buy these off me in one go? Happy to take less than market on them if it means a quick and easy sale.

Atom Packs?

Anyone here got an atom pack? How is it, it's fairly local to me (about an hour away) so booked to go in for a fitting, not 100% sure what colours and size bag to go for yet.

First Wildcamp in the Peaks

Got the bus to Hayfield and walked up to Mermaids Pool, across the valley up to Kinder Scout. Far too windy and cold up there, couldn’t find shelter so had to come lower down, I only saw 1 other person camping up there last night.

Didn’t get setup till about 10, never been cold while camping but didn’t get warm until about 2am. Packed up at 6 and walked to Edale to jump on the train at 8ish.

Glad I came down as the fog looked bad when I looked up from where I was camping.

Rain Jacket Recommendations?

After having my Patagonia Torrentshell 3L for 6 years and multiple repairs later, it's starting to show signs of being reserved for 'second best'. The jacket was repaired about 2 months ago and has been out just a handful of times, it's had seam tape and repairs, new waist elastics and new zips but tags are falling out, the seam tape is coming out and in the most recent wash the main neck panel with the hoops has completely come off. I will send this back in for repair and carry on using it but in my experience it takes about 8 weeks and as someone who spends a lot of time outside over Summer in unpredictable British weather I need a waterproof jacket.

Looking for recommendations on waterproof jackets, ideally something that is repairable or will last me a long time and lightweight, I have been very impressed with Patagonia jackets (I have 3 but 2 are down) and the ability to have them repaired for life.

Based in the UK so ideally not smaller cottage brands from the US and Canada etc.

Do campsite prices encourage you to wild camp?

Recently been looking at ‘proper’ campsites to go to with friends that aren’t as outdoorsy and would still like ‘proper’ facilities such as a toilet or porta-loo on site before they embrace wild camping. I’ve pretty much always used PitchUp or OS Maps to locate and find campsites, especially if I just want to get outside and test something out without being too remote or getting stuck in a pickle if something doesn’t go to plan.

I found a campsite last year that was £10 per night per person - it was minimal, had a water tank with a tap and 2 porta-loos, it was right on the edge of Coniston water and what was meant to be a 1 night stay turned into a 3 night stay as I was so relaxed. I thought it was good value.

I’ve been looking at other areas (mainly the Peak District due to my proximity) and the prices are ridiculous (in my opinion, £25+ per night). I understand the one price structure but I can’t help think that it’s unfair that I’m paying the same price to pitch my 1/2 man tent with no vehicle compared a family of 5 with a huge tent, camp shower and people carrier.

Do you think the prices for backpacker campers are one of the reasons people turn to wild camping? Is this one of the many reasons why you yourself turned to wild camping?

X-Dome 1+ Thoughts?

This tent is currently on my maybe list, along with a few others, this one is the most expensive on the list.

Interested to know people’s thoughts and opinions. What do you love about this tent and where do you think it’s missing things that you like about other tents?

How have you found it in both great and not so great conditions?

From the UK so will be using it here and in Europe!

Best Value 1-Man Tent?

Hello all, currently in the market for a good value 1-man tent. Mainly for backpacking around the beautiful British countryside.

I currently own a Decathlon 2-man trekking tent (MT-500) and a Oex Jackal 2. Both what I'd call budget tents. I've been extremely surprised by the Decathlon tent and I own a lot of Decathlon products as they're great value.

I'm wondering if I should stick with Decathlon and grab their 1 man MT-900 trekking tent at just £140 (with discounts) or look elsewhere.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's suggestions. My ceiling is around £350 ($/€400).

Quilt Recommendations?

Started camping around 2 years ago over the ‘warmer’ months April - September. Both on organised sites and wild camping.

I’m fairly happy with my setup, but everything is just ‘ok’, nothings perfect and I’d like to slowly upgrade my equipment - starting with sleeping. I have an alright down sleeping bag from Decathlon, rated for 5° but I tend to suffer with the width more than anything else as quite a broad bloke.

What’s everyone’s recommendations on quilts? Ideally I’d like something made from ‘proper’ down and packs down to a nice size, as I don’t own a car I usually train/bus/walk to where I camp and everything goes in a 50L pack.

Are things getting better?

Despite what we’re told in the media about everything and everyone being doomed, having no money and people just constantly dying. Does anyone feel like things are starting to get slightly better?

I say this as I’ve seen loads of new businesses open to where I live (in a post industrial town) and thrive. I constantly see people out spending money and restaurants and cafes are busy almost all the time.

I understand this isn’t the case for everyone and yes, some people are still understandably struggling and perhaps I just live in a bubble.

No Priority Pass at Kansai International (Osaka)

Flying out of Kansai this evening and thought I’d get there nice and early to both be ready for my flight and enjoy a little bit of food and drink somewhere comfortable.

I can’t believe out of the several lounges in the airport, the only one that accepts Priority Pass (Gold Amex benefit) is one before security?

Whose bright idea was it to open a lounge before security? I’m glad I didn’t bother looking at the app and going there because I’d have missed my flight - security was rammed with people just congregating with friends who were having bags checked and holding up queues.

How would you spent a spare ¥10K

Coming to the end of my trip and I have some cash left over.

I could take it home but really can’t be bothered going to an exchange to change it back and it’ll end up getting absorbed into general bills anyway - which is boring.

How would you spend a spare ¥10,000? A nice meal? Clothes? A game? A pricey souvenir? Duty free?

EDIT: I ended up spending it on last minute souvenirs, travel essentials and claw machines. I ended up winning a huge Slowpoke Pokemon plush that I had to get vacuum sealed. I’ve got about ¥3000 left which is enough for a decent meal on my last night! Thank you to everyone that suggested things. I tried Pachinko but it wasn’t really my thing!

Umeda to Kansai Airport

I have quite a bit of luggage (2 carry on suitcases and a backpack) and I need to be at the airport for 4pm on Thursday.

There’s no airport train designed for luggage from Umeda so what’s the best way? I don’t think the ‘same day’ luggage services will be able to get my bags there in time either.

Don’t want to annoy people with several bags on the local trains. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Paying in GBP overseas?

I’m in Japan at the moment and made a large purchase the other day. The terminal asked if I wanted to pay in JPY or GBP. I understand and have always paid in the local currency however the rate offered by the store was £1 = 210JPY - not a terrible rate and better than when I bought my travel money, I know the AMEX rate was only slightly above this as I made a purchase a few days prior when I ran out of cash and just tapped my phone (forgetting I set AMEX as my default card).

If I pay in GBP will it avoid the AMEX overseas card fee and see the transaction as if it was one at home? I know the AMEX fees are hefty overseas and I need to hit my points bonus spending target.

Also plan on purchasing a cabin upgrade at the airport on my way back as this trip has ruined my body (legs, feet, sunburn etc.) so would like to know whether it’s worth paying in GBP.
