Getting my first car….Kind of don’t know what to do.

Hello, so I’m planning on getting my first car after basic training with the army and I really don’t know what to look for or what makes up a good starter car. I’ve been researching some and heard through the grapevine that some people suggest getting like a civic or an accord as a starter car that’s under 100k mileage.

I’m hoping you guys could give me some advice on what to look for in a first car. Or point me to some books or something.

Edit: and I should say that I have $18k saved up so I was hoping to get the car in cash? I thought that would be better than taking out a loan.

Anyone here an 89B?

I wanted to hear your opinions on the job. What’s the day to day like? Did it help you get a job in the civilian world? Etc etc.

Which MOS translates well into a civilian career?

I was thinking about choosing 25B and just aiming for a helpdesk position to start but from what I’ve heard, a lot of folks in the IT field are having a hard time rn.

Edit: I should be more specific, I’m looking for a job I can get while I’m in school. Not a career just yet. I was hoping I could leverage my work experience and training I get through the reserve to land a bit of a higher paying job so that I’m not stuck working in a warehouse.

People in the army reserves who regret joining, can you tell me why?

Hello, so I was thinking about joining the army reserves but lately I’ve been having second thoughts. Don’t have many people in my real life that I can talk to about this bc most of the people I know are active duty so I wanted to learn more about the negative side of the reserves. I asked my recruiter but of course they will be biased.

What’s the mindset of a parent who pushes you to move out but still wants a say in what you do once you’re about to move out?

DISCLAIMER: I want to put this at the top of my post bc I don’t want people to get the wrong idea. My parents aren’t bad people and I’m looking for a way to better communicate with them.

I (23F) am still living at home and I could tell over the past couple years that my parents don’t want me living there anymore even if they aren’t saying it directly. I will be upfront and say that I don’t pay rent and have been struggling to figure out life and what to do, so that’s where their frustration is coming from most likely.

So I decided last year to join the army and I swore in and I ship out in three months (which I’m very proud of myself. I got a MOS that will set me up for a life once I get out and I’m excited to start my life…even though I’m nervous too lol.)

My issue is this. Now that I’ve got something going for myself, my parents are being weirdly overly involved in my life now. Like now all the sudden they want to help me with things like randomly cook me dinner or take my clothes out of the dryer when I’m not home or at work. They’re overly cheery when I come home too when they weren’t before. They’re just randomly super nice now and it’s honestly weirding me out lol. Like they could have been this nice before and it would have been much more encouraging lol. And they keep wanting to involve themselves in every decision I make now and get upset when I set boundaries but like, they didn’t care before in the sense that they were pushing me to make my own decisions.

So what is this mindset about now? What is with the switch up? I feel frustrated because it feels like now they only care now that I’m leaving when they could have cared before. But I also realize that I was mooching off of them and that was most likely frustrating them bc I’m a grown person living in my parents house lol.

I’m wondering if any of you had to deal with this and what your mindset was?

I’m looking for A&P schools in Maryland and I wanted to use that FAA tool that shows you all the schools in the country but I can’t find the website. Does anyone have the link?
