Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread

We've all been there. You're about to submit your package for OTS, but you want to know how you stack up. Should you relax? Should you throw it all away and start over?

Well, here's the place for you to ask strangers who have never sat on an OTS board what they think the board is going to think of your package. There are many variables to an 0TS package. If you want to get the best advice, you need to include as much information as possible, like degree information, GPA, AFOQT, PCSM (if applicable), leadership experience, relevant awards, etc. If you only provide your GPA or AFOQT scores, expect to be told "who knows."

There are a ton of variables that go into officer selection. Nobody here can really tell you your chances. We can guess, but that's about it. We've seen people with stellar scores get rejected and people with garbage scores get accepted. It all comes down to the needs of the Air Force and whatever the random colonel reviewing your package thinks. That being said, post your scores, help each other, and learn what you can do to improve package!

Steam environment similar to virtual desktop apartment?

Are there no steam environments where you're sitting at a desk/on a sofa similar to the virtual desktop apartment environment? I can see all the environments to my right once I boot up Steam VR but surprisingly can't find any like the one I'm searching for.

PSA: Iron Rebellion is the best native VR game I've played since HLA

I play a lot of VR mods so I won't include those in the mix, but a lot of other native VR games always feel a little gimmicky to me and lack immersion. I mostly play space/flight sims with some other games like Metro 2033 occasionally. I bought IR on sale two days ago and right away from the tutorial I knew I found a winner. The controls are intuitive, the visuals are great, and the combat is fun enough to avoid feeling repetitive. If this has been on your wishlist, take this as your sign to get it.

Anyone had luck with Ethernet over powerline?

Bought some ethernet over powerline adapters mostly to improve latency/stability with wireless steam link for my Quest 3. I've noticed that download speeds are much faster if I set my PC to Wi-Fi, and the steam link stability is only slightly better when I switch to Ethernet. I bought the adapters thinking they'd make a big difference but I'm wondering if I should return them and just commit to running an Ethernet cord through my house (or stick with WiFi which otherwise has had no issues).

Liftmaster suddenly stopped working; clicks and light flashes (only once)

I had a local repairman come out but he didn't really inspect anything and just told me I need a replacement so tbh I don't really trust his advice. The opener was working totally fine then one day stopped and now will only click once and the light flickers (no repeated flashing). The sensors are aligned and I already tried a soft reset by unplugging for 30 seconds. Any advice?

Best way to fix stuttering (Eden on PC)?

Trying to play Kirby Forgotten Land on my new PC and there's some minor stuttering. It's barely noticeable and the game still runs pretty well overall but is there a setting I can change to get it to run 100% smoothly?

How to blend baseboard and chair rail with corner guard inside corner quarter round?

Praise I can't wait for that my basement has 4x8 shiplap panels for interior walls and I'm trying to install baseboards along with chair rails to cover the seams between the boards. They only catch is that I also need to install corner guards on the outside corners and quarter round on the inside corners. How can I blend the vertical corner pieces with the chair rail and baseboards?

How the hell to get Star Wars Squadrons to switch to VR?

Quest 3, Virtual Desktop.

I've read multiple posts and googled until I drove myself insane but none of the solutions have worked for me and no matter what I try this game will not launch in VR. It seems like the consensus is to launch the game in flat mode and then toggle to VR using the in-game settings but that isn't working for me. If I try to toggle VR the game just asks me to confirm which I do and then nothing happens.

EDIT: switched to Steam Link and worked right away. I guess VD was somehow the problem.

Crashing as soon as I start VR mode

Just got the VR mod and the game boots up fine but when I hit "U" to enter VR mode (1st level, Thank You Come Again), the game launches VR mode for a few seconds then crashes. I'm able to interact with my gun and chest items for maybe 5 seconds tops then straight to the report diagnostics pop up. Any way to fix this?

Is my performance being throttled in some way, or is my hardware just not good enough?

First PC build. Installed all updated drivers (as far as I know), Windows performance settings are all turned up, and AMD set to HYPR-RX. Hardware:

Gigabyte B650 MOBO

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X CPU

Corsair 32GB 6000 36 RAM

Klevv C910G 1TB Gen 4 SSD

PowerColor RX9060XT Reaper 16GB GPU

Trying to run Forza Horizon 6 but FPS is in the 20s even with graphics and resolution turned way down. Also tried Half-Life Alyx using my Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop but instantly got a warning saying my PC wasn't powerful enough and then the game ran really poorly.

Is there something that could be throttling my performance, or is my hardware just not good enough for these games? I would think even on low settings they should run okay but I'm new to all this.

Performance tips for a first timer?

Just finished my first build and miraculously everything seems to be working as intended (thanks YouTube!). Now that I have Windows installed and I'm ready to go, I wanted to ask the pros here if there's anything I can/should do to boost performance and get the most out of my modest hardware (parts below). I already have game mode on, power set to high performance, and AMD set to quality. Anything else I can tweak to get the most out of what I got?

AMD RYZEN 7 7700X

KLEVV C910G 1TB GEN 4 SSD

POWERCOLO RX9060XT REAPER 16GB

Took me 4 hours and stayed up until 1am but I made good progress (first timer)

Overall it was easier than I thought other than some stupid mistakes that made the whole process take a little longer than it would've otherwise. Still gotta figure out where the hell to plug all the cables in on the other side tomorrow 😅
