Synthetic Opal?

Is this a synthetic opal? (I know it's chipped) — so I need to decide whether to keep it or just throw it away. It was in a silver ring that got melted down, and removing the stone didn't go perfectly 😆😬. I have no experience with synthetic opals, but the pattern looks kind of strange, especially on the side of the stone. I’d appreciate some help from you experts—thanks!

Mandarin Garnet?

Hi, I bought this stone many years ago—as a mandarin garnet, I believe, though my memory is a bit hazy. Could someone please help me identify it and perhaps estimate its value? It has great fire and looks brownish, red, or fiery orange depending on the lighting; it’s difficult to photograph.

B*CJade Experience

I wanted to share my first experience with a b*c Jade today; it was very interesting, and there are a few things that just baffle me. On the plus side, I can now say with fair certainty that none of my other pieces are B/C jade 😅. The certificate looked extremely authentic—there was a website, a working QR code linking to that specific piece of jewelry, and the weight matched (with only a tiny discrepancy in the second decimal place)—yet it wasn't "A-grade" jade as stated on the certificate. The stone felt rough, almost as if it had been slightly abraded, and the surface showed that characteristic, odd pattern, even though the piece itself looked very glassy and didn't show any visible "webbing." The measured density was 2.63—consistent with quartz—but it definitely wasn't quartz; it was actually B/C jade. My question is: how is a layperson supposed to spot things like this? I have various certificates for my genuine pieces, too; some feature that "banknote-style" printing in the background or border, but not all of them do. I was really amazed at the effort people put into faking B/C jade to make it look like A-grade—setting aside the price, which was extremely low (I bought it out of curiosity just to see and feel the visual difference). The certificate itself, however, really shocked me. Other question is, Why isn't that illegal? The jewelry testing center actually exists, and these counterfeiters are essentially dragging the lab's reputation through the mud. It destroys all trust in certificates issued by that lab.

Tuning

I have a question about tuning: I use a Chinese guqin tuning app, which is very helpful since I otherwise have no experience with musical instruments. However, I now feel that my guqin doesn't "sound" quite right—specifically regarding the harmonic (pentatonic) tuning. The tuner only supports 440 Hz; someone advised me to tune the guqin a bit lower. I’m a bit lost here because I can't tune by ear alone and need the tuner. Currently, I’m using the C-D-F-G-A-c-d tuning. The app offers other options, but I haven't tried them yet because the guqin is *very* stiff and difficult to tune—though, on the plus side, it doesn't go out of tune easily. I’m aiming for a more melancholic sound; could someone please help me?

What means this signs

hello What do these markings mean? I assume it has to do with the quality of the wood used? No. 1 is a guqin made with traditional lacquer and fir wood—or so it seems.

No. 2 is made of paulownia wood and wasn't expensive, yet it somehow has a more pleasant, deep tone than the pricier No. 1... though it is also a bit louder. To me, No. 1 sounds too much like a guitar; I prefer warm, deep tones... 😔

2nd Hand spinach green hetian?

bargain or not? I bought both pieces second-hand as Hetian jade; the light green one is almost certainly Hetian Qiemo like certificate says.

, but I’m not sure what the spinach-green one is—the edges of the beads around the drill holes look a bit rough in some places, looks like splintered . The certificate appears genuine. Any idea if it’s Hetian or something else? (but at least they fit nice together) 😊 thanks for help!

Personal connection or just an accessory

Do you have a special personal connection to a piece of jewelry, or is it just an accessory to you?

Do you give names to your special pieces of jade jewelry?

My very first bangle (even though it’s unclear whether it has been treated) is called "Water Dragon" because the bluish shimmer looks like a winding water dragon (in my imagination), and the bangle has an almost organic aura thanks to the veins in the stone. In contrast, my light green nephrite feels calmer—like a fresh spring leaf in the sunlight.

My black omphacite dragon pendant is like a protective amulet that grounds me.

Are there also Jades that you can't form any bond with at all, and that you sell off again for that reason?

Unfortunately, I don't know much about Chinese jade mythology; perhaps someone here knows more. Thanks.

Webbing or natural Granulation?

Hello—even after looking at various images of "webbing" in chemically treated jade, I remain unsure about my own pieces. Therefore, I have taken backlit photographs of a few of my pendants and would like to ask for your expertise.

Does this represent the so-called "webbing," or are these structures more likely natural granulation? haven't performed a density test yet, as all the pieces are still attached to cords that I would then have to replace. 😬

Another question is: can I detect the webbing with the naked eye, or only with a magnifying glass? In other words, how fine or coarse is this visible structure?

maybe interesting fun fact: German jeweller, gem, mineral shops sell serpentine or bowenite as Jade or nephrite because of that my interest in "Jade" was always very low, because i didn't like the opake and soapstone look😅

Regarding the pendants: I am skeptical about the green Pixiu—I’m not sure if it is jade or quartz—but I do like the beautiful carving.

And last but not least, there is the little bird; it is the only piece in my collection that feels rough and somehow slightly "sticky," and the carving itself looks somewhat "melted." However, it does feel cold to the touch—yet, despite that, it remains one of the pieces I am doubtful about.

My main goal here is to learn; I have no other option but to proceed by "try and error"—or rather, "buy and error."😬😢 because of that (and small budget) i still dont buy pricy pieces..

Ty for your kind help!

My collection

Hi just wanted to show my little Jade/nephrite collection. Most of them have certificate, but well. Some pieces keep still their secret if its jadeite or jadeite/albite mix or something else😅 . I would want to know more about my pieces, machine carved, commercial Jade? i think, some are guatemalan maybe idk. Most of them where offers because of some carving errors or stone flaws . I appreciate some further information. I can show more detailled pictures if you want. Ty. I appreciate your oppinion and further insight.

Extreme layer shift

I'm experiencing a massive layer shift during printing. The first print was slightly misaligned, but now the second print is extremely shifted. What could be causing this? No one has touched the printer, so it can't be due to external interference. I’ve greased the rails, though there actually seemed to be plenty of grease on them already. It’s a complete mystery to me; I’ve never had problems like this before. Unfortunately, I’ve already ruined two prints, and the resin is very expensive. It also seems to occur only above a certain print height; smaller objects on the build plate come out fine. any idea pls? thanks for help

Hetian?

Found this on 2nd Hand market, its says hetian jade, quiemo, nice ding sound. lucky or not? 🍀🤔 inside is fine structure, price was a lucky clover if its really hetian or jadeite. Thanks for help, i liked the soft green color

u/Party_Sprinkles_9469 — 1 month ago

Is this Hetian?

or something else? I bought this from a Tiktok seller, was really nice and helpful Lady but i suspect maybe i got scammed, i wont belive that but anyway, i ask the experts here. Can this be Hetian Jade or is it some other stone? or maybe from other source not hetian? i got for every bangle a Certificate. Since im a bloody beginner and i have zero experience with nephrite im very curious about what i bought here 😅

1.looks like cotton floating in water

  1. ist more grayish and transluscent with cloud looking cotton

i like both , this internal structure makes them unique and it looks to me like clouds or cotton fliating in water. I really appreciate your expert insights, ty.

MoCui, Omphacite Difference?

The jade forest is very difficult to navigate for jade enthusiasts and beginners, hence my question: what are the visual differences? I myself have two black (omphacite?) pendants that I wear daily as protective amulets. I recently saw a TikTok video with MoCui... however, I'm skeptical. The rough stone shown had fracture edges like I only know from glass or obsidian (unfortunately, I didn't take a screenshot). And the price range was... ooof. So, I would be very happy to read some clarification and explanation from jade experts. 🙏 thank you. first is a screenshot from the tiktok (btw the pieces they shown looked machine (cnc mill) carved, not even hand carved) 😬

2, 3nd picture is my omphacite (machine carved?) Pendant

Too good?

to be true?! I bet she uses filter but the colors and clearness looks out if this world, anyone know this tiktok seller? She unpacks bangles in life stream. im courious... i personally thinking she is selling b*c jade (regardless of filter) prices are in rmb. this bangle here 777 rmb is about 115 USD or 99 Euro. Affordable price but... Btw i think seller on tiktok life market make a big profit through currency conversion. In China, market prices are in RMB, but these are almost always converted 1:1 to dollars, so instead of 777 RMB, they become 777 dollars 😳
