ONGEZELLIG: Ghost of King Philip (chapter 25)
The two girls had managed to flee far enough to escape Coco's fury. Out of breath, they decided to stop and rest:
"Kiki! When I saw you coming, I almost thought you were sent by Heaven!" exclaimed Mymy.
"Heaven is Jupiter, I prefer Neptune," replied the girl.
"Please tell me everything that happened."
"Argh! It's a pirate tale worthy of the adventures of Calico Jack, I tell you! So, I arrived in the strange room under Prudente's house. There, I was grabbed by the Man with the Morion, whom you and I saw the first time we went there. He tied me up and texted on my phone. Then he went to get me something to drink…
"Vinegar for my martyred messiah?" Mymy mocked.
" “No, you orange devil! I don’t know what he was doing trying to get me, since I took the opportunity to slip away. I always carry a small pocket knife. This knife, to be honest, doesn’t cut much, but with some rope, it can prove quite effective with enough patience. The whole thing took me ten minutes, but I managed to free myself. As soon as I was finished, I hid by the door, waiting for him to come back.”
“And where did you get this knife?”
“I think I stole it, but it was a long time ago. From your place, I think!”
“You really should go see a doctor, Kiki, about kleptomania…”
“And megalomania,” the pirate mocked.
“Kleptomania is a defect found only in subhumans like you!” Mymy exclaimed. “What you call ‘megalomania’ is just the name fools give to the most beautiful thing of all: the thirst for power!”
“Anyway, Mymy! I was waiting by the door when the man came back, holding a glass. He’d barely crossed the threshold when I shoved him with all my might down the stairs! Arwgh! Now that was piracy, believe me! The poor devil will remember it for the rest of his life, I tell you! He fell, glass in front of him, while I went outside, locked the door behind him, and ran out!”
“And how did you know where I was?” Mymy asked.
"Arwgh! Thanks to my pirate instincts, of course!"
"I'm not convinced, but fine," smiled Mymy.
"But come on! Enough of this nonsense, Arwgh! It's time to set sail, let's go somewhere else, otherwise your sister might find us!"
"Let's go to my place, then."
And the two girls got up, determined to walk. Kiki went ahead, singing an old sea shanty, when suddenly Mymy grabbed her arm:
"What do you want, my little orange?" asked Kiki.
"I... I just wanted to tell you..."
"That I'm just a dirty little anarchist pirate who deserves to have a noose around my neck?"
"No, you silly girl! I... I just wanted to tell you... Thank you..." murmured an embarrassed Mymy.
“What?” asked Kiki, who, though teasing, had overheard the thanks.
“Thank you, you dirty little pirate! Thank you for saving me, I was so scared!”
And Mymy burst into tears, while Kiki hugged her tightly:
“My poor little devil. Know that I was very scared too, really, really very scared.”
And off they went, like brave young women full of fervor. Fervor against the invasion, fervor against the occupier, fervor against Prudente Escorial, the child possessed by the spirit of King Philip II.
