how were you introduced to OUAT?

i’m curious to know how many people watched because of a friend recommending it because when i told my friends one of my favourite shows was called “once upon a time” and was about fairytales, they looked at me like i was crazy and thought it was a kids show.

i randomly came across it on disney plus and thought it looked interesting, i was 10 when i first watched it so didn’t really understand how great the show was, i rewatched 3 years later and loved it even more. currently on my fourth rewatch

curious to hear about how you guys discovered it..

thoughts on tristan

i never like tristan and specifically how much people romanticise him saying “rory was blind” and that they “would’ve folded immediately”. in reality he was a creep. he constantly harassed rory calling her mary as in virgin mary because of how innocent she looked. he had his moments but he had so many bad ones too. the second someone tells me they think him and rory should’ve been endgame it’s a huge red flag for me. the whole “a guy bullying you means he likes you” schtick is overdone and misogynistic. i also never got the comparisons between him and logan. like i get that they both come from money and are fuck boys but that’s the end of it. logan definitely isn’t perfect but he is miles better than tristan. the fan edits just romanticise him

question for book readers

so i’m not normally a fan of hockey romances but the show left me obsessed and wanting more. i wanted to read the books because i’ve been stuck in a reading slump for a year and i feel like this could break me out

i know that the trope used in tucker’s story is an accidental pregnancy and i generally hate that trope so would you suggest i still read that book or skip it cause idk.

also would you suggest i read the legacy after the Briar U series like some people suggested

if some characters HAD to end up with someone, who should they have ended up with

please don’t come for me, i get that the point of the show is that not everyone needs to have a romantic partner to be happy but i just want to have a civil and possibly fun discussion, if you have a problem with that please just ignore this post and go about your day…

i’ll go first,

so a ton of fanfics i’ve read ship Elsa and Liam (killian’s elder brother), obviously Liam is dead but it seems like they’d be cute.

i really loved Belle and Will together too, i feel like after everything with rumple she needed a solid healthy relationship where he didn’t lie to her or manipulate her and Will did just that.

also if dorothy wasn’t in the picture, i feel like Red and Mulan could’ve been really cute together.

looking forward to hearing your thoughts

thoughts on the musical episode

i usually do not like musical episodes because to me it feels like the signs of a show declining, in this case it partially was correct but whatever, the episode was actually not bad, i get they wanted to do something special for the 100th episode and the execution was shockingly great. the songs were catchy and the performances were fun and a little campy. the actors were surprisingly talented considering most of them don’t really sing much.

also i would like to point out that zelena was outside of the enchanted forest and so was never affected by the curse she still sang just for the fun of it which is just so inexplicably zelena coded

what villain do you think had the worst villain origin story

basically you don’t blame them for turning evil because after all they went through, it’s justifiable. like you too would become a villain if that was your situation.

for me, rumple definitely had the hardest life but he was also the biggest menace and wreaked the most havoc. between his dad being a deadbeat that abandoned him to milah being a horrible wife and mother i don’t blame him as much. even cora left him.

zelena too, while it partly was her fault that she constantly got jealous of those around her, cora abandoned her to give herself her best chance (talk about selfishness), her dad was a drunk and she was constantly told she wasn’t good enough.

which OUAT villain do you think had the best redemption arc

in my opinion it’s either regina or hook. for hook i feel like he just stopped considering himself a villain after he met emma. in fact in the S4 finale when all the villains got their happy endings and the heroes suffered, he didn’t get his happy ending, he was working for blackbeard and i don’t think enough people talk about that enough. he started looking out for other people and risked his life. he also felt horrible about >!what he did to ariel!< in between season 3A and 3B.

regina might’ve had ups and downs and even if she wasn’t the best mother, there was no doubt that she did love henry more than anything. she genuinely wanted to change and made an effort to. she had countless opportunities to kill marian >!who ended up being zelena!< but she still didn’t. it was the only thing standing in between her and her happy ending but she felt it was wrong and that showed growth. she also forgave emma for bringing her back instead of spending years trying to kill her and ruin her life.

how old was neal when he first met emma

so i’ve seen a lot of discourse on this and want to set it straight. it’s canon that he was 23 when he left her but i think that’s crazy considering he looks 30 when they met. the aging down thing didn’t work with him and i get it but still it kind of ruined the setting.

we know he was 14 when rumple became the dark one and was with him for about a year before he spent 6 months with the darlings and eventually went to neverland. that tells us he was 16-ish when he went. ignoring how long he spent in neverland without aging, i think he must’ve spent at least a decade in the land without magic before he met emma. so that leaves us with 26, and emma was 18 when they first went out so… there’s that.

maybe no one cares but me but i was just curious and tried to do the math. might’ve missed some details so let me know

did anyone skip any season during their first watch

For me, i originally skipped most of season 3 which is crazy since i love that season. it felt like the peter pan storyline went on forever. keep in mind i was 10 back then and loved frozen so got really excited when i found out it was the plot of the next season. back then i didn’t know about the two parter thing in seasons of OUAT. needless to say, i was quite confused but i still didn’t go back and watch until i finished the rest of the series. i feel like that taught me that pretty much all shows have highs and lows and it’s impossible to make everyone happy. curious to know if anyone else did it or if i just had a really short attention span lmao

David’s weird comments about having a daughter

i love david as a character but something that was always weird to me was how he always made comments about having a son. this happened both with emma and neal 2 when snow was pregnant. his mom said something about him wanting a son but a daughter would also do too. maybe i’m reading too much into it but as some one who grew up in a society where boys were prioritised over girls even as kids i felt it was a little odd and it made me uncomfortable. maybe it’s nothing but i’m interested to hear your views on it
