Alternatives to gift registry for toddler birthday? [ca]

Ive never been a fan of gift registries. Something about having a list ready to go of things you want from your guests has just always felt icky to me.

But it seems to be the norm for birthday parties where I am.

Is there an alternative that you as a guest would feel comfortable with? Do fiver and tenner parties still exist? Would you do it for a toddler? Or asking for experience gifts be acceptable? Like admission to the zoo or something similar. Ideally I’d like everyone to pitch in for 1 large present but that seems to be an unpopular idea for some reason

How would you go about communicating something like this? Right now everyone seems to just send a link to a registry when you ask what little Timmy and Sally want for their birthdays

Which sections of the store are generally worth it to buy from?

There are some sections that are a great deal and some that are cheap Temu crap or just a bad deal buy volume compared to a regular grocery store.

What are you go to sections to check out for real good deals?

I know for a fact that all the PepsiCo products (drinks and chips) are both cheaper and fresher than a traditional grocery store. I used to work for Pepsi and sold to Dollarama.

The kitchen section, The kids book section, and the kids toy section have been great for high quality name brand items. And I’ve recently discovered the shampoo/body wash section with high quality products as well.

At the same time, there is lots of cheap Temu stuff that i can get even cheaper directly from Temu. Or basically anything in the cleaning section is cheaper by volume elsewhere.

So what other sections are generally good to look for hidden gems?

How to stop cat from shitting in the grass like a dog

I’m completely dumbfounded. I’ve had many cats in my life and I’ve never encountered this problem.

This a relatively new issue, As of only a few weeks ago.

My cat is 5 years old and has had access to the outside for 3+ years. She has a litter box inside that she uses regularly. In the winter exclusively, in the summer she used it for poop.

At the beginning of the summer we had a patch of grass in our backyard that we decided to rip out and reseed becuase it was dying from the heat and we couldn’t keep it alive. At some point my cat saw a fresh pile of dirt and decided it was a good toilet. I let her do it since nothing grew there anyway. …. Except I guess she got a taste of pooping the fresh air and decided to expand her toilet from the small patch of dead grass to the whole yard. It’s killing the grass, and it’s obviously disgusting.

How do I stop this?!

I have some enzyme cleaner I sprayed in the spots shes been going but I can’t spray my whole yard. It’s also been raining every day for weeks so it would all wash away anyway.

Where can I find shoes for short wide feet?

I essentially have duck feet. Size 6 women’s in length but probably a 7.5 in width.

The shoes pictured are a Steve madden 6.5 W and you can see that my feet are even wider than that as the sides get stretched out and worn down. The last pair are cheap fast fashion shoes in Size 7. Real leather stretches and wears holes in the sides, fake can’t stretch but instead pulls the tips of the shoes up with it.

I used to basically only wear poor quality $10 shoes because any pair regardless of quality would be worn out by the end of the season. Flip flops and Birkenstocks are only shoes that don’t cause me discomfort. But I can’t wear those to work or in the middle of winter. I’m in a pretty experienced role at this point in my career and can’t get away with wearing obviously crap shoes

Where can I find shoes that fit?

How to warm up the room without changing the headboard?

*everything is slightly off to the side becuase my toddler currently sleeps on a floor bed beside us*

I’d like to warm up the room and give it some colour but I don’t know which colour would work best with the cool grey headboard. The bedsheet is new just washed and not ironed (if i had known it would wrinkle like this out of the wash i wouldn’t have bought it 😩)

Vehicular damage to balcony, no comprehensive ins

Hopefully this is the correct place to ask. Asking for my family member.

Family member was moving into a townhouse rental unit. They rented a Uhaul truck. While driving the truck, they damaged the neighbouring balcony.

Uhaul had collision but not comprehensive ins. So the uhaul damage is covered, but the balcony is not.

Nobody knows what the next steps are and who to go through. Neighbours home owner ins said talk the condo board, condo board said talk to the tenant’s ins. Tenant’s ins said they don’t cover structural damage and won’t proceed with the claim.

Family member is willing to pay out of pocket for the fix if need be. but neither them nor the neighbour nor the condo board know the next steps.

5% cash back boost

Took me way too long to find this info so I’m sharing it with all of you.

If you refer someone to get the credit card, the steps to get the 5% cash back aren’t that straightforward.

My friend applied for the card before adding in the referral code and we were worried it wouldn’t count. But it does! As long as they add your code within 7days

Anyone else still like “millennial grey”?

My home has builder greige walls, grey carpet, a white kitchen with grey countertops … and I like it! My sister is gen Z and her home is filled with dark wood MCM furniture and tiny knicknacks everywhere and it gives me anxiety. I still enjoy light bright and airy and don’t like the new trend towards “cozy” and “moody” maximalist rooms.

Would you ever move your laundry downstairs?

We have a 3bed home with a laundry room upstairs. It’s a decent size with a nice window. Currently one of the bedrooms is an office. Both my husband and I WFH. He is 100% and I’m 50%. We’re about to lose this room as our baby will be moving out of our room into his own.

We have a large walk-in closet off our mudroom that is currently underutilized. Basically just the cat’s litter box room. It’s smaller than the laundry room and windowless.

I had the idea to relocate the washer dryer downstairs into this closet and make the current laundry room an office.

When we bought the house, the upstairs laundry was a great perk. And with 2 young kids we do laundry basically everyday. But it’s also inconvenient and uncomfortable for me to work at the dining table everyday.

Trying to decide if this expensive and most likely permanent change is worth it. Or if I’ll regret not having upstairs laundry more than working at the dining table.

Urethral prolapse [AB]

After the birth of my second child I’m pretty positive I have a urethral prolapse. But I have no idea how to go to get it fixed.

I went to my OB first and they denied me. I went to my family doctor but he doesn’t do female anatomy stuff and sent off a referral. The first referral was denied, I’ve been waiting for a second referral for weeks now.

I’m at a loss. I just want this fixed. It’s uncomfortable and gross.

Has anyone dealt with this and know what my next steps are?

I just discovered these and wanted to share!

If you’re looking for a sweet cookie-like snack these hit the spot better than anything I have tried yet!

They are free from 13 of the major allergens.

I’m dairy, soy, oat and coconut free and this is the only pre-packaged sweet I’ve found that is free of all of those things.
