I have a MacBook Air 2017 running macOS Monterey, and I’ve been having a really annoying issue with connecting to my phone’s personal hotspot.
Basically, whenever I open my MacBook and try to connect to my phone’s hotspot, it often connects but there’s no internet connection / it doesn’t work properly.
I’ve found a workaround on reddit involving changing something in the network settings (the TCP/IP / IPv6 settings) and it works when I do it, but I have to repeat the exact same process every single time I open my MacBook.
It’s getting pretty annoying, because this never happened before I installed Monterey. The hotspot worked normally before the update.
I’m wondering if there’s a way to fix the underlying problem permanently, rather than having to redo the network settings every time I start up my Mac.
Has anyone experienced something similar with Monterey + a 2017 MacBook Air? Is there a setting I can change, or a network configuration I can reset, to make the fix permanent?

J'entre en 3e année de prépa littéraire cette année (khûbe, j'ai souvent eu de bonnes notes, donc c'est pour ça que je considère le fait de faire qqch à côté de la prépa) et je commence à avoir un vrai problème avec ma situation financière/familiale. J’aimerais réussir à ne plus dépendre financièrement de mes parents d’ici juin 2027, ou au moins arriver à un niveau où je peux payer moi-même l’essentiel de mes dépenses et avoir une épargne de sécurité. Mon but est de pouvoir payer mon loyer après la prépa et de ne plus avoir besoin d'être dépendante, d'avoir des réflexions, ou encore de voir ma famille car c'est vraiment compliqué, j'ai besoin de liberté.
Pour l’instant, j’ai environ 245 € de CAF par mois, mais à part ça je dépends encore largement de mes parents. Et psychologiquement, je le supporte de moins en moins. J’ai vraiment besoin de trouver une solution pour devenir autonome.
Le problème, c’est que je suis en prépa, donc je ne peux pas me permettre de prendre un boulot classique à 15-20h/semaine sans que ça mette complètement en vrac mes études. Je ne peux pas non plus vraiment donner de cours particuliers : je n’ai pas de réseau ni de contacts pour trouver des élèves.
Du coup je cherche quelque chose de compatible avec une prépa et idéalement faisable à distance, quitte à commencer avec peu d’heures et quelques centaines d’euros par mois, puis augmenter progressivement.
Partons du principe que je peux tout faire du moment que c'est à distance. Je sais que c'est compliqué, mais si jamais vous connaissez quelqu'un ou si vous avez des idées, je suis vraiment preneuse. Je sais qu'un boulot, même minime à côté de la prépa, ça peut coûter cher aux concours, mais je pense qu'avec les notes que j'avais (autour de 15 de moyenne), je peux me permettre de donner du temps pour un boulot qui me donnera une certaine liberté.
Est-ce que certains ici ont déjà été dans cette situation, pendant une prépa ou des études exigeantes ? Comment vous avez fait pour gagner de l’argent sans sacrifier complètement vos études ?
Je suis preneuse de toutes les idées. Même si ça rapporte « seulement » 200-300 € au début, ça m’intéresse : l’objectif serait vraiment de construire progressivement quelque chose jusqu’à juin 2027.
Et si vous avez des retours très concrets du genre « ce boulot est faisable avec une prépa / celui-là est une catastrophe », je prends aussi.

Je ne sais pas trop comment formuler ce post, mais j’aurais vraiment besoin de conseils de personnes qui ont vécu quelque chose de similaire.
J’ai 19 ans et je suis étudiante dans une autre ville. Je vis actuellement dans un appartement que mes parents financent en grande partie, donc même si je suis physiquement éloignée de ma famille, je reste encore financièrement dépendante d’eux.
Le problème principal est mon père.
Je le considère comme quelqu’un de très narcissique : tout doit constamment tourner autour de lui, son humeur détermine l’ambiance de toute la maison, et il supporte très mal qu’on le contredise ou qu’on lui fasse des reproches.
Il a également des propos et comportements très problématiques : racisme, homophobie, etc. C’est quelqu’un avec qui j’ai énormément de mal à partager certaines valeurs.
Mais surtout, il y a toute notre histoire personnelle.
Quand j’étais enfant, il me frappait. Aujourd’hui, il nie systématiquement que cela ait eu lieu. Il m’a également insultée à plusieurs reprises pendant des années. Il pouvait m’humilier, et il y a eu des situations où j’avais vraiment l’impression qu’il prenait plaisir à me voir pleurer.
Et paradoxalement, il me répète régulièrement qu’il m’aime, que je suis ce qui compte le plus pour lui, qu’il ferait tout pour moi, etc.
C’est justement ce qui rend la situation extrêmement difficile à comprendre et à gérer.
Je sais qu’il peut faire des choses pour moi matériellement. Je sais qu’il m’aime probablement à sa manière. Mais je ne veux pas que cela efface la manière dont il m’a traitée, et j’ai énormément de mal à accepter l’idée que je doive continuer à avoir une relation proche avec lui simplement parce que c’est mon père.
Le reste de ma famille fonctionne beaucoup autour de lui. J’ai parfois vraiment l’impression d’être dans une sorte de système où tout le monde lui donne raison, ou préfère éviter le conflit avec lui plutôt que de reconnaître ce qui se passe. Les seuls membres de ma famille qui prennent réellement ma défense sont mes grands-parents maternels.
Quand je retourne chez mes parents, je trouve l’ambiance extrêmement étouffante et je me sens très mal. Je suis dans une autre ville pour mes études, ce qui me permet déjà d’avoir un peu de distance, mais je reste dépendante financièrement.
Mon objectif est donc de devenir financièrement indépendante dans les prochains mois, notamment pour pouvoir payer mon logement et mes dépenses moi-même.
Mais je me pose maintenant une question beaucoup plus personnelle :
Comment est-ce qu’on coupe progressivement les liens avec sa famille ?
Je ne pense pas forcément vouloir faire un énorme « je vous quitte, ne me contactez plus jamais » du jour au lendemain. J’ai plutôt envie de construire progressivement une vie dans laquelle ma famille a de moins en moins de place, jusqu’à éventuellement avoir très peu, voire plus du tout, de contact avec mon père.
Et je ne sais pas comment gérer les étapes intermédiaires.
Par exemple, je ne me vois absolument pas l’inviter à mon mariage un jour. Je ne me vois pas non plus forcément lui faire une place dans les événements importants de ma vie. Mais je culpabilise déjà rien qu’à penser à ce genre de choses, parce qu’on m’a toujours appris que « c’est ton père », « il t’aime », « tu n’as qu’une famille », etc.
Je me demande donc si certaines personnes ici ont réussi à prendre progressivement leurs distances avec une famille toxique, particulièrement lorsqu’elles étaient encore financièrement dépendantes.

I’m a French student entering my third and final year of CPGE littéraire (khâgne) this year. For anyone unfamiliar with the French system: a prépa is a highly intensive 2–3 year program preparing students for extremely competitive national entrance exams, especially for top universities and the Écoles Normales Supérieures. The workload is very heavy, and students are generally expected to spend most of their time studying.
I’ve usually had pretty good grades (around a 15/20 average, which is considered strong in my program), so I’m seriously considering using some of my time for work alongside my studies.
The reason is that I’m having a really difficult financial/family situation. My goal is to become financially independent by June 2027, or at least reach a point where I can pay for most of my expenses myself and have some savings. In particular, I want to be able to pay my rent after I finish my prep and not have to depend on my family anymore. The family situation is genuinely complicated, and I really need the freedom and independence that having my own income would give me.
At the moment, I receive about €245/month in housing assistance (CAF), but apart from that I’m still largely financially dependent on my parents. I’m finding that increasingly difficult to deal with.
The obvious problem is that a normal student job of 15–20 hours/week would probably destroy my ability to keep up with my prep. I also can’t really tutor students because I don’t have any contacts or an existing network for finding clients.
So I’m looking for something I can do remotely, ideally with flexible hours. I’m basically willing to consider anything as long as it can be done from home. I’d be perfectly happy to start with just €200–300/month and gradually build it up over time.
I know that working during a prep can be risky, especially when you’re preparing for very competitive exams. However, given that I’ve consistently had fairly good grades, I feel that I can probably afford to give up some study time in exchange for gaining some financial independence.
I’d really like to hear from people who have been in a similar situation, whether during college, university, or another very demanding program.
How did you make money while studying without completely destroying your academic performance?
I’m honestly open to any ideas: remote jobs, freelance work, unusual opportunities, things I might not even have thought of, etc. Even something that only makes a few hundred euros a month would be useful. My goal is to build something gradually between now and June 2027.
And if you have very practical advice like “this job is actually manageable alongside demanding studies” or “avoid this, it will eat all your time”, I’d especially appreciate it.

Je vous écris de très loin, mais cette histoire m’a fortement traumatisée, au point où je ne peux plus être amie avec des filles depuis.
En première année de fac, j’ai rencontré une fille. Elle disait aimer ma compagnie, ce qui était déjà assez suspect parce qu’elle était clairement amie avec Bernard Arnault, mais elle se plaignait qu’il ne voulait pas jouer au Monopoly avec elle. Bon j’ai laissé passer.
Nous sommes devenues très proches. Quatre ans d’amitié, malgré quelques petits désaccords, notamment parce qu’elle avait tendance à considérer que ses affaires lui appartenaient. Je trouvais ça assez bourgeois comme mentalité.
Après la licence, elle est devenue professeure et moi j’ai raté mon concours. Heureusement, elle m’a aidée en me donnant les réponses au téléphone. Certains diront que c’était de la triche, moi je dirais que c’était du tutorat avec correction instantanée.
Elle venait d’une famille de fonctionnaires et moi j’avais été adoptée par une femme de ménage. Elle prétendait ne jamais avoir vu la différence, ce qui est faux parce qu’elle avait des montres de luxe et moi pas.
Un jour, elle a eu un problème financier et m’a demandé de l’aider. Je lui ai donné 80 % de la somme (pourquoi n’a-t-elle pas appelé Bernard ? je l’ignore toujours) Deux jours plus tard, je lui ai demandé de me rendre l’argent. Elle a très mal pris cette tentative de vol caractérisé de mon propre argent et a décidé de mettre fin à notre amitié.
Quelques années plus tard, elle m’a recontactée parce que son mariage s’était effondré. J’ai immédiatement compris qu’elle avait besoin de moi. Je suis donc allée vivre chez elle.
Elle appelle ça « squatter gratuitement ».Bon après c’était pas tellement le luxe, parce qu’elle a quand même mis du Barrage aux Insectes sur ma brosse à dents. J’ai laissé passer pour le nouveau dentifrice..
Au bout d’un an, elle a commencé à dire qu’il manquait de l’argent, de l’or et des montres chez elle. Je lui ai expliqué que quand on possède suffisamment de montres pour remarquer leur disparition, on a probablement trop de montres.
Elle m’a alors accusée de vol.
J’ai évidemment nié.
Enfin, j’ai nié jusqu’à ce qu’elle me montre une vidéo où je reconnaissais avoir volé ses affaires. Là, j’ai compris que j’étais face à une situation juridiquement compliquée et j’ai donc changé de stratégie : j’ai dit que c’était Claude et que l’IA était capable de tout de nos jours. Blessée par son manque de confiance en moi, je suis partie.
En partant, j’ai laissé mon poil a gratter qui s’est répandu par lui-même sur ses fiches d’impôt (d’ailleurs, à sa place, j’aurais apprécié qu’on rende mes fiches d’impôt inutilisables, quand je me fais enlever minimum 70k€ par l’URSSAF par mois..). Mais bon j’ai laissé passer.
Deux jours plus tard, je suis revenue chez elle avec 15 grammes de cocaïne que je ne possédais absolument pas. Elle m’avait demandé de les rapporter pour éponger le poil a gratter. J’ai appelé la police pour dénoncer la cocaïne. Elle a appelé la police pour dénoncer le fait que j’avais appelé la police.
Pendant que nous attendions les policiers, elle m’a dit que mes empreintes seraient sur le sachet.
J’ai donc paniqué et jeté quelque chose sous le canapé par la fenêtre.
Je précise que je ne sais toujours pas ce que c’était.
Les policiers sont arrivés et nous ont emmenées au commissariat. Elle leur a montré une vidéo dans laquelle j’avouais mes vols, ce qui était franchement sorti de son contexte, sachant que c’était de l’IA.
J’ai été arrêtée. Elle a retiré sa plainte, parce que je l’ai menacée de lui voler son Monopoly, et de lui voler toutes les rues qu’elle avait acquises au cours de sa dernière partie.
Enfin une preuve que je tenais encore à elle !
Elle avait mal épongé le poil a gratter (tu m’étonnes quand tu appelles la police pour retirer la cocaine qui permet de faire s’évaporer le poil à gratter!) du coup elle a mangé sans faire exprès un bout de sa fiche d’impôt et est tombée malade
Elle a passé trois mois à récupérer.
J’ai souhaité qu’elle se remette en pleine forme, tandis que de son côté elle a engagé un tueur à gages pour me rouler dessus en grillant sens interdit. Bizarrement, j’ai été tuée selon ce mode opératoire.
Je voudrais donc profiter de cette occasion pour dire que je trouve extrêmement suspecte cette coïncidence.

Je (19F) suis avec mon copain (M20) depuis 2 ans, et on arrive à se voir très régulièrement (minimum 2 fois par semaines) malgré nos études qui sont très prenantes.
Nous partons chacun de notre côté en vacances cet été et ne nous revoyons que dans un mois.
Nous avons toujours eu du mal à maintenir une grande proximité lorsque nous étions à distance, parce que de mon côté, je ne peux pas beaucoup appeler (mes parents sont très stricts et lors des vacances scolaires je reviens chez eux, il s’agit donc des moments lors desquels je vois le moins mon copain)

Je (19F) suis avec mon copain (M20) depuis 2 ans, et on arrive à se voir très régulièrement (minimum 2 fois par semaines) malgré nos études qui sont très prenantes.
Nous partons chacun de notre côté en vacances cet été et ne nous revoyons que dans un mois.
Nous avons toujours eu du mal à maintenir une grande proximité lorsque nous étions à distance, parce que de mon côté, je ne peux pas beaucoup appeler (mes parents sont très stricts et lors des vacances scolaires je reviens chez eux, il s’agit donc des moments lors desquels je vois le moins mon copain)
