Honestly it's not surprising that a beverage company like Pepsi or Coke would be involved with geo politics to such an extent

When you consider just how big their brands are and how many resources have to be marshaled to make them possible to exist: water, aluminum, sugar, petroleum, you can see these are massive Mega corporations that in their competition to control and dominate and surplant water

Are not above murder and manipulation to get ahead

Con Air is a movie where Nick Cage plays an Army Ranger sentenced to 10 years because despite being a troopin a clear-cut case of self-defense he still faces a corrupt Alabama judge as his final boss. This is considered the most accurate depiction of the Alabama court system.

Marcus- yeah Dogmeat's definitely seeing combat definitely going in the Tunnels. Maybe gets permoted up to correspondent like pvt joker

Henry like he said probably gets radio but also probably gets kidnapped by the NVA and brainwashed like John Candy's character in Volenteers

Oh for God's sake Ma would you give it a fucking rest. Yes I'm back in my hometown for the summer, no I don't want or need to contact people I haven't spoken to in over a decade.

So yeah basically im back at family farm figuring out my life after living overseas for a year

My mom's off figuring her own shit out but every now and then she calls up to see how I'm doing and do a little mental rug pulling. And like I get that it's a parent's job to dote and worry

I tell her I'm fine and doing well, but that's not good enough, she tells me I should be going out to the expensive tourist trap town and and finding a way to hang out with people i have not spoken to in over a freaking decade including some friends of hers and my ex-girlfriend.

And she says it's because she wants to make sure that I'm socializing and being active but truth is it's like: No you want to live vicariously through me because of your lack of boundaries and because you want to impress some of your old friends.

But the thing is, and this is nothing personal i dont give much of a solitary fuck about any (well most) of these people.

For the record things ended well with my Ex and as far as most of these people go, you know, we follow each other on Insta but outside of boosting each others account numbers its not like we kept up regular correspondence with each other.

Frankly most of us probably wouldn't be friends if we weren't born in the same school district. And that's okay

friends and family are the people you choose, to be with not just because of proximity, age and maybe a few basic shared interests.

It's not like we had some deeply close bond, We didn't go on some magic summer Adventure or bury a body together.

We mostly just had classes together hung out in between and that was it. That might sound a little cold to some but that was just part of the reality of growing up in a small town where everyone was about 5 Miles away. (Plus I had a dad who would never hesitate to let you know how much of an inconvenience it was to drive you anywhere)

Do I wish I had a happier childhood, yeah sure but who doesn't. Yes I was a bit of a loner and an outsider ( play edgy Emo music) and I get that this is probably the place of concern where my parent is operating from.

But for God's sake we're in different stages and states of our lives and I just don't see the need or have a reason to insert myself into theirs.

And truth of the matter is right now I'm doing pretty good for myself.

Working on a construction project on the farm. lost a little weight. Got friends on Discord I shoot the shit with. I'm also moving in a month so I'm going to be expanding my Social Circle a lot. And right now i got a Guy I'm texting with, and fingers crossed things might be getting a little more intense.

And it's that last thing which probably irks me the most and is part of the reason for this long salty overshare.

I came out to my mom (just her) over a year ago as Bi

and it's not like she rejected me or anything but it was pretty clear shes never accepted it or even wants to acknowledge it.

Maybe that's for the best considering how intrusive she seems to be in a lot of my life but sometimes it really feels like the moment I came out the closet she tried her best to kick the door shut.

She's not homophobic but she is opinionated and generationally there's some pretty big limits to her level of understanding.

As far as my dad and other family members go, until I'm more confident in my relationship exp. I just don't feel the need right now too sift through any potential drama or be intrusively questioned about this part of my identity.

Especially when they've been kind of absent from a big chunk of my life ( that's a whole other bag of issues that I'm not going to unpack right now)

But really I guess what triggered me the most about the call is my mom bringing up the ex like we both haven't moved well the fuck on in life, meanwhile the last person I was in a relationship with I think I probably felt more for them than anyone else previously.

But that kind of relationship doesn't get the same acknowledgment, acceptance or just normal room to breathe and yeah I'm still bitter about that

What can I say Bi Erasure sucks, especially when its from a parent and especially when you're partially complicit because you need boundaries and space

Rant over.

I think my dads generation hates my generation because we (mostly me) keep all the receipts

Tonight my dad (undiagnosed Boomer autistic) gave me ( blame the vaccine Indigo child autistic) the "we didn't start the fire" speech about how his generation did all these great things

but how they were undone (but not by his generation, no sir).

And now he says it's up to my generation to fix everything but he says my generation is too cynical and blames everyone else.

And it's like; yeah because that's how all yall old ass motherfuckers get yourself off the hook every time.

Maybe we'll stop blaming you for everything when you stop trying to take credit for everything.

You seem to be under the impression that Society like the Roku box is my responsibility to fix: It ain't! I just got to survive the day you just got to not sign the house away

Shutout if you got tested as a child but your parents never told you!!!

Can I get a what WHAT?????????!!!!!!???? "You Dersly ass motherfuckers lied to me!" I mean to be fair I probably could have connected the dots sooner. I remember in 1st and 2nd grade the long ass car trips to a facility on a Saturday and the interviews with specialists but I thought I was gonna be like an X-Men or the pretender not put in a windowless room behind the computer lab once a week for the next couple years to learn eye contact ( the wooden shape blocks were cool and they had a lightbrite). I get my parents thinking not giving me the official diagnosis would be somehow better and there also might have been a bit of denial on their end but other kids and this thing called society didn't really seem to have that hesitation.

picture used is of actor Sameer Najjar from the underrated Netflix comedy Mo as far as representation goes the show does a pretty decent job discussing a lot of sadly still present stigmas surrounding neurodivergence within broader American culture and within immigrant community's and how often family denial and well meaning intent can have negative consequences

Fuck Ai... but if I go and make a bunch of t-shirts and hoodies with random letters, and fake words on them, then I can go out and commit crimes and deny it by saying all video and photo evidence is fake

u/Playful-Succotash-99 — 1 month ago

Me listening to my sister defend AI, because she uses it in her work emails to "sound more empathetic," while also knowing that a day earlier she had the audacity to lecture me about empathy.

I'm having to bite my tongue sooooo hard right now.

For context sake, we have a kind of a rocky relationship, we're getting along right now, but in the past, she's been on my shit like white on rice.

She's also younger than me. (middle child, shout out)

I don't know why, but it seems like ever since my parents' divorce well over a decade ago, her and my older brother decided like it was their job to police my behavior.

Because of complex living circumstances and for the sake of keeping the peace for other family members I've never been able to directly call them out on it.

That day might come when I'm on emotionally higher ground but not there right now

Anyway, the statement she said today was definitely one for the books.

I mean for fuck's sake your idea of empathy is essentially a gas station get well card.

If you're so concerned about coming off as cold or dismissive, maybe work on being a better listener.

Because I'm making some salient (if maybe a little pedantic) points about what I see as the socially corrosive effects of

A....And you're just cutting me off to immediately interject and dismiss what you think I'm about to say.

And this is a pattern that I've noticed going on for a long time in arguments and regular conversation with her.

And what's funny to me in all of this is

I just love, love, lovvvvee that we on the spectrum get accused so often of not being empathetic, or able to read social cues, or the room, when so often many of us are more then hyper aware of what's going on around us.

We're not missing the forest for the trees, we know there's a forest we just really care about the fucking leaves and the types of trees.

And maybe we find that more interesting than the fake ass, arbitrarily enforced rules that often get used against us for not conforming.

That's all I'm going to say for now before they take me away

So how exactly do you think the Soviet Union fits in the Venture Bros universe and lore?

Might be a bit dense topic, but I'm curious if anyone has any theory or speculations about how the USSR and Eastern Bloc might have factored in the shows universe. We know the Cold War and space race was a huge part of Rusty's childhood (poor little Demitry). Obviously, Dr. Venture Sr. made his living off of government contracts and ran some operations.

The fact that M.O.T.H.E.R even had access to drugs to flood the underground bunker implies he probably did mk ultra experiments as well. (possibly drugged the action man, and eventually created the super serum Sgt Hatred was given)

We know based on Brock and Mol's relationship, tensions between the global powers presisted on pretty much the same timeline as ours. But Hunter also mentions the Wall coming down before it happened, implying global control

Would definitely have been an interesting topic to see the show cover in passing had the show continued

Nemesis the 1992 cyberpunk film that's plot is literally all the cyberpunk plots in one movie ( they made 5 of these)

Honestly it's kind of an impressive film visually, but God damn it the plot isnt convoluted as hell. There is way too much going on every minute and they kept adding on more. Still for a over the top low-budget Sci-Fi Action flick the effects and stunt work are pretty well done.

I think lot of credit is owed to the director Albert Pyun, who did a real solid job establishing mood and atmosphere.

As a Genera filmmaker, a lot of critics compared him unfairly to Ed Wood, but looking at his filmography, he really did have a lot of talent when it came to working cheap and in a global market

Lot of aspiring filmmakers struggle to shoot anything more complicated than two people talking in an echoey poorly lit Airbnb

He at least managed to shoot some cool miniature robots blowing each other up so it's definitely worth the watch

Pale Force the rawcusly funny early web series and recurring Tonight show bit about Jim Gaffigan and Conan O'Brien using their ultra pasty complexions to Fight Crime

For a lot of people, Jim Gaffigan is generally seen as this family-friendly comedian with a lot of opinions about hot pockets and birth control. But in the early 2000s, in the golden age of flash animation, he and Conan produced a series of irreverently funny cartoon shorts,

About the two of them running around LA half naked using their pail light admitting skin to do battle against the forces of evil.

Namely their main villains for most episodes were the equally pale Philip Seymour Hoffman resentful of Jim's greater success and desirability, and you also had

seductive and cunning Lady Bronze AKA Eartha Kitt who plotted against the two while openly lusting after Jim.

Part of the fun was that Gaffigan would bring these segments on the Tonight Show to air and then would sort of narrate and condescendingly explain the plot to Conan who would alwase object to the shows depiction of him as this effeminate weenie sidekick.

Surprisingly like 30 of these shorts were made and put on the website, but only a handful played on Late Night. Still it was kind of an interesting precursor to wear internet comedy was going and adult animation in general

They're shooting lasers out of their nipples they're killing bad guys without remorse it's Paaaaaalee Force
