This rice farmer thing has to have some racist connotations behind it
A formal and organized military supported by China and the USSR and a highly armed guerrilla force reduced to farmers
The mugshots of Russian sleeper agents caught in America
How are naval ships able to adequately defend themselves against anti-ship missiles?
The math to me seems to be firmly on the side of anti-ship missiles. There are a lot of them while there aren’t a lot of ships. A ship hit by an anti ship missile would need to head back to port for major damage which would place it out of combat for a substantial amount of time. Ship interception systems need to operate with a very high interception rate to adequately protect ships. For a real life example, I’m going to use UK and Russia due to recent geopolitical tensions.
Royal Navy operates 13 total aircraft carriers, frigates, and destroyers with a smaller number being operational due maintenance and refits. As per Ukrainian intelligence numbers(so take with a grain of salt), Russia has roughly 120 Zircons, 600 Oniks, and thousands in other types. Even with a 95% interception rate, the Royal Navy would still be taking a fair number of hits which would reduce their operating navy quite significantly.
So how do advanced navies protect themselves from enemy anti ship missiles?
I’m struggling to afford gas recently. Anyone know if my car(pictured below) can take E85?
I disagree with the assertion that technology in Star Wars is stagnant or doesn't advance
I'm going to use a mix of in universe and real life examples to explain my point.
Point 1: F-104 vs F-16 vs F-22
Many people assert that star fighters and other technology in the OR looks similar to PT-ST era technology. I don't see this as evidence technology isn't advancing.
Imagine you are someone in 1946 who has lived through WW1 and WW2. To you, biplanes = WW1 and singular wing planes = WW2. If were to show you pictures and video footage of the following aircraft: Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, do you think you could accurately tell me which aircraft is the most technologically advanced? Probably not.
Someone from WW2 can't look at two aircraft made decades later and say which one is more advanced. Just like how we can't say technology that works completely different from our own is as good this other technology that we are unfamiliar with. An X-Wing looks similar to an ARC fighter but it probably has better engines, more powerful weapons, stronger shields, better sensors, etc.
Point 2: The idea of technological advance
There are multiple metrics to determine if something has technologically advanced. Something becoming cheaper and more accessible is an advance even if it is not as capable as the previous technology.
The fastest manned jet is the Lockheed A-12 Oxcart. It was designed in 1962. Has human aerospace technology stagnated? No, we realized that pursing increased speeds did not give much of an advantage compared to the costs to do so. The A-12 had a host of quirks and problems that made it difficult to use while not providing much extra capability compared to other technologies in its role. The aircraft that the A-12 was supposed to replace was the U-2. The U-2 is still in service while the A-12 left service in 1968.
A TIE fighter doesn't need to be more "technologically advanced" than its predecessor. It only needs to be a better starfighter for its cost.
Point 3: We actually see technology advance
The Death Star is a technological achievement that previous eras were not capable of. Same with TIE Defender, bacta, Star Destroyers, and all of the other various technology we see. There is no indication that the OR era is capable of making a military that's largely droids or mainline battleships that can take on a Star Destroyer. Could the Galactic Republic make something like Starkiller Base? In Legends, we know that the New Republic/GAFFA technology was better at countering the Vong in Unifying Force than it was in Vector Prime
The North American X-15, an experimental aircraft that holds the record for fastest manned flight speed, costed less nominally than a new Bugatti La Voiture Noire
The X-15 was also capable of flying into space and is the only manned aircraft capable of hypersonic flight.
It is more expensive when counting inflation however. Is Bugatti still too expensive for what you get?
Was Jimmy Zelinksi’s boss design creative and challenging or just annoying?
The NCAA should award Pitt with the National Championship
I know that sounds crazy at first but upon further analysis, it makes sense.
The champions, Indiana, won a playoff game against Alabama by 35. What does this have to do with Pitt? Well Alabama lost a game to the mighty Florida State by 14 and Pittsburgh won against FSU by 3. So a hypothetical matchup against Indiana would result in Pitt losing by 18.
If you end the analysis here, Indiana is still the national championship winners however, there is more advanced analysis to be done.
FSU’s final touchdown against Pitt happened in what was essentially garbage time as FSU needed to recover an onside kick to have a chance to win the game. Because of this, Pitt played soft coverage so they basically won by 10 not 3. Our deficit against Indiana is now down to 11.
Pitt also dealt with injuries all year. Desmond Reid was one of two players who were signed or drafted into the NFL from this season and spent most of season not at full strength. So, we were down half of our NFL capable talent. I think we can reasonably assume that a full strength Pitt would close the deficit by at least 7 points bringing it down to 4.
Back to the FSU game. That game took place at Doak Campbell Stadium. Looking at the win vs ACC opponents these last two seasons in that stadium, we see that FSU has three while Pitt has one. Since FSU only has two more wins vs ACC teams the last two years, a lot of people make the common mistake of thinking Doak Campbell was a neutral site for the Pitt FSU game. It was actually the home stadium of FSU. Since home teams have an advantage and the national championship takes place in neutral stadiums, we can add another touchdown to the deficit making Pitt win by 3.
There are some other factors that I left out but there’s no need to add to Pitt’s advantage when they are already winning against Indiana. Therefore, Pitt is the true National Champion and the NCAA needs to take immediate action to ensure we get the credit we deserve.
I know some of you are asking, if Pitt could beat Indiana, why did they miss the playoffs? We only needed one more ACC win to make the championship. The first few games were started by Eli Holstein not our better QB, Mason Heintschel. If Heintschel started the whole year, we would have made the ACC championship then made a run all the way to the finals where we have an analytical advantage over Indiana
What should BO8 look like?
The classic era of mechanics existed for roughly BO1-BO3(maybe BO4 and WaW included). The current gameplay style came in Cold War. We are three Black Ops games into the modern era. I think we are due for a gameplay style refresh. For BO8, I think Treyarch should try to make a new style. I’m not sure how it should look like but I’m sure Treyarch will figure it out
No touchscreens, computers, or modern bs, just car. The prefect daily driver
The Model T is greatest car ever created. No extra luxury bullshit like electric starters or airbags shoved in by automakers to drive up the profit margins. No extra points of failure or complex engineering that makes repairing difficult. Truly the car for everyone.
Hate tech? Get a model T
Love tech? Get a model T and install one of those CarPlay screens
Want reliable? Less parts and easier to repair than a Toyota
Want a manual? Get a model T
Want an automatic? It’s only two gears, figure it out
Want self driving? It has cruise control(sorta)
Can’t operate the manual starter? Hit the gym
Need a safe family car? Don’t crash
Currently, what’s Sledge’s case for being selected over Buck or Ram
Clearly the weakest of the soft breachers currently.
Buck can play from below and is more precise. Ram is the fastest and can quickly expose site. Sledge is in between the two where he lacks the precision of Buck and the speed of Ram. He can clear utility unlike Buck but has to get up close while Ram can throw her gadget. He can’t vert from below either. His gun is low recoil but low rof. R4C and C8 are some of the best ARs in the game.
So, why would someone pick Sledge over Buck or Ram?
