Today is Stoma Awareness Day - here’s what I’ve learnt in the past nine weeks:
- mine is called Sven (when he’s good). Getting him quite literally saved my life.
- I have to wear a small bag almost all the time, as I have no control over my output.
- The bags are about the size of a crisp packet, and are changed a few times a day.
- They are practically invisible, don’t smell and are pretty quiet 99% of the time.
- Having a stoma has ruined my deep sea diving career, but nothing else is off the menu. I can run, cycle, hike, climb and everything else.
- Because I have no control over my output, I never know when I need to change my bags, so I always have a change kit on me (not a problem, love a bag).
- The surgery had a massive impact on me mentally, which I’m still struggling with (but it’s getting better). I’m anxious about public toilets for example.
- Again, it saved my life. I do hate it, but my friends and family have been amazingly supportive. This has made having one so much easier.
- I’m not ashamed of it, and will always happily answer questions about any aspect of having one, especially since the knowledge I had about them was a mix of myth and ignorance.

Ive put this up as I’m an avid Reddit user, and was searching for information in the hours after my surgery; if this is you reading, it does get better.

Today, my partner and I were both called at around the same time by the same mobile number.

I happened to answer it, and the (elderly sounding) man at the other end said we was calling me because I’d called him first. I checked while on the phone to him and I hadn’t.

It’s probably not a scam, but we can’t work out what is going on here - it’s not a number either of us have on our phones or recognise.

Any thoughts?

We set aside an evening to work out the table plan, but with only 40 guests, it only took ten minutes.

We’ve got a bookish theme for the wedding, and have created an adapted book title for our guests, so the table plan chart will be four stacks of books, with these titles stacked up!

What theme did you go for with your table plans? How did you find the planning of who sits where? Are you letting your guests choose where to sit on the table, or marking out individual spaces in some way?

Today I’m designing a ‘stoma runner’ t shirt logo.

For context, I’m a really keen runner, both socially, competitively and as part of the parkrun community.

My Hartmann’s Procedure was emergency surgery, devastated me, and one of the first things I searched for post surgery was ‘can I run with a stoma?’

I know now that I can, but I had no personal context. In my head, seeing someone like me, wearing a stoma runner would have forged a memory, which would have in turn, alleviated some of my post-surgery stress.

Really trying to resist punny slogans like:
- running is my bag
- I’ve got it in the bag

…but happy to take suggestions!

I’m three weeks post op, and curious!

Mine is called Sven when he’s good, Nigel when he’s bad (it’s a UK-based joke), but my friend across the ward from me named his Paloma, which I think is brilliant!

What did you name your stoma, and what’s the name origin story?

Mine today was, after staring at the grid for AGES, “who cannot occupy this space?” I listed the letters, and crossed off those who it couldn’t be. Sometimes it’s where suspects AREN’T that matter as much as where they could be.

What worked? What didn’t? Have you been to any weddings where they used them in a clever/unusual way? Where is the best place to get your film? How do you stop mischievous nieces from using all the photos up‽

The last two brides I’ve spoken to both shared that they thought they were all sorted, then started buying things in the last few weeks that had only just occurred to them!

What have been/were your last minute purchases? I’m trying to get ahead of the game?

Imagine all the apps you wish the Scribe had - calendar, email, notes etc, but couldn't get.

I saw a link for rekindle.ink and investigated. It has far.far more than you'd ever need.

I know hat some people like the scribe for the distraction-free expereince - as do I - but I really do think that the rekindle app will stop me from picking up my phone when I remember to check something.

Is there a way to flag up or block certain customers on Shopify? I have a really thriving niche in the main, but there are one or two who drain my batteries. I'd ideally love ot have a flag come up if they order, or tag or SOMETHING!

I am a run director at a local parkrun, which is a weekly free time. 5 km run around a local park, we’re all are welcome.

We are soon to add kilometre markers along the route, and I believe that this will make people’s runs faster by a small amount.

I’m wondering how I could test or prove my hypothesis using data which is freely available. For context, every single runner has their position and time logged each week, so I was wondering if I could track some runners before and after?

I would love some input, thoughts and suggestions regarding this challenge.

I’m stalking the small portable projectors you can get online in a future Prime day sale, and it seems they run a host of android-based apps, so would potentially run Stremio too.

Has anyone (particularly in the UK) got one of these kinds of projectors and can recommend their model?
