Do you tell people outside the hobby about collecting model horses?

I'm kind of embarrassed to do this because of weird reactions I got from people in the past and the only ones who know are my family members who live with me or visit me often. I don't think having an unusal hobby is something we should be ashamed of, but it's still weird to explain it to people who know nothing about it.

What are some situations where you only realised someone's implied meaning long after the conversation?

I don't think I have huge issues with understanding sarcasm, and I don't take everything literally, but I often catch myself realising what people mean much later. For example, I used to be convinced that when people said "we should hang out some day" or something like that, they always genuinely meant that they wanted to hang out with me. I'd then start thinking about how I was going to deal with another social interaction with a stranger, which caused me so much unnecessary stress haha

Has anybody else experienced bloating issues for a long time after quitting sertraline?

I (17F, diagnosed with GAD, depression, and AuDHD) had been taking sertraline (Asertin, 50 mg) for a few months before I finally decided to stop. During that time, I gained around 6 kg (about 13 lbs). I also experienced severe diarrhea and gastrointestinal bleeding, which often left me unable to leave the house for hours. Since then, I've developed a serious problem with bloating.

I've always been somewhat prone to bloating, but it got much worse after I started the medication. I stopped taking sertraline four months ago, and the problem has only improved slightly. It's really bothering me because I struggle with body image issues, and I used to have an eating disorder. On top of that, some of my favorite clothes don't always fit comfortably anymore.

The bloating seems to happen regardless of what I eat. Sometimes I wake up already bloated, and other times it appears suddenly during the day. It can even be a bit painful because it feels like my skin is stretching.

My diet is generally healthy, I avoid foods that commonly cause bloating, I exercise a few times a week, and I sleep well, but it still keeps happening.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Do you have any tips?

Do you have issues with your body image?

If yes, do you think that autism may make them somehow worse? Or are they generally a bit different than the ones a neurotypical person might have?

For me, my sensitvity to fabric makes life a lot worse. I constantly feel the materials rubbing my skin and I feel like my clothes are too small for me and I look really overweight in them, even if in reality they are a size or two too big.

I look at some pieces of clothing and I am convinced they're not going to fit me and I get anxious before trying them on just to see that they actually do fit. And then I still feel awful in them

How do I approach my father's behaviour changing?

I'm still a teenager and I live with my parents. My dad has always been abusive towards my mum, but he rarely said bad things to me. Anyway the abuse I've seen made me develop some bad mental health issues and I've been diagnosed with MADD a few months ago, along with autism and ADHD. I feel like my parents started acting differently since then. My dad hasn't started any arguments in a while and overall it seems like he tries to change, but I don't know how to feel about it. I want to have a dad I've always wished for, but I'm so afraid that it's another mask he's putting on and he'll start suffocating under it soon and everything will go back to "normal". Things like that have happened before, but so far it's the longest he managed to stay calm. Has any of you been in similar situation? I'm pretty lost right now...

May I be agender?

It might be a weird question since I'm the only one who could really tell, but I wonder if anybody here feels the same as me.

I am 17 and I've always called myself a girl, because I am a woman biologically. I've never even considered being different gender, I thought it's pretty much the same as sex and I've never really understood people who were questioning theirs (I never had a problem with it, I was just curious why it is so important to them). Recently I've come across the term agender and I thought that sounds pretty much like me. I would feel comfortable with any pronouns, I use she/her because that's what everybody uses and that's what I am used to, but when I write or think about myself I often use he/him or, preferably, they/them and it also feels okay. I usually express myself in a feminine way, but I never understood why some things are seen as more masculine or feminine, for me things are just things.

I don't get offended when people assume I am a girl and I don't feel the urge to come out or anything, I just don't care at all. I could wake up in a male body and I would just go about my day pretty much the same way I do now.

Also, I'm aroace and autistic, maybe there is some correlation, I don't know haha

Constantly building too complex sentences

Does anyone else have a huge problem with building sentences that are too complex? For as long as I can remember, I have always written very complicated sentences that make sense to me, but some people think that reading my statements requires a lot of effort. As a child, I was praised for my extensive language skills, but recently some people have noticed that I write and sound as if I wanted to show off my knowledge and language skills at all costs, when in fact I am just trying to communicate in a way that is comfortable for me and no matter how hard I try, I keep repeating the same "mistakes". I feel pretty insecure about it and the sense of being so misunderstood makes me not want to talk or express myself at all. I become quiet in the middle of the sentence when I start getting the impression that what I want to say is too complicated and complex for others to understand or when I see they lose focus. I've also developed some anxiety around talking to others, whenever someone starts saying something to me I get stressed that I'm going to give them a response they won't get the point of... Can anybody relate?

To people considered "gifted" here: how does it affect the way others see your disability?

Does anyone else feel like autism is seen as your superpower just because you come across as gifted? How do your strengths affect the way people talk about you? I'd gladly read about your experience because I'm getting fed up with all the "I wish I was autistic" "I'm jealous of your intelligence, I'd love to be autistic as well" stuff... Also I feel like people who don't know other autistic people may see my example and expect the next autistic person they meet to be good at academic stuff and it really annoys me, although I can't do much about it

I (17F) feel like I've pretty much recovered from the eating disorder I had in the past, but my mum is making many of my ED thoughts reappear. She used to have some serious troubles with eating in the past (>!she used to take some "slimming pills" and she had to quit university because she just wouldn't eat without her parents checking on her!<) and I'm pretty sure this mindest stayed with her even after she decided to eat more. To this day she makes comments like: >!"oh I was so fat back when I was younger, I weighted like 56kg"!< even though I used to weight the same while being only a bit taller... I feel like she was only proud of how I looked when I was a bit underweight and my period was missing. Even then she still was like: >!"ohh you're getting so skinny now, I feel fat standing next to you, I need to start starving myself"...!<

Anyway I had developed severe anxiety because of my anorexia and decided to get better when I noticed that I couldn't eat without shaking, crying or feeling like I was about to pass out. But recovery was really hard for me and my GAD symptoms were getting out of hand, which lead me to visiting a psychiatrist and getting sertraline prescribed. It caused my hunger to increase dramatically and I gained about >!7 kilograms !< while taking it for two months. I went off it because it wasn't doing me any good and for now I weight about >!53 kilograms!<, but I still feel like my mum expects me to get skinnier than this. She made comments about how my clothes started looking different and I haven't heard a single compliment from her since my weight reached >!51 kg. !< Overall I feel really bad in my body right now, but I don't want to fall back into my old habits and hearing her complaining about how much I eat or saying things like ">!oh my God I ate two eggs for breakfast, it was so much, I have to stop letting myself eat like a pig!<" really hurts, so I'm just looking for some comfort and understanding here... Thank you all a lot <3

P.S. Btw I tried to talk to my mum about it many times, but it doesn't seem to make the situation better. I don't really blame her for anything because she had to deal with lots of problems herself, I just feel like a failure and need a safe space to talk about my issues...

I am a junior in high school right now and since January I've been going through an awful burnout. School has become really hard for me, I can barely make myself go there, I have meltdowns like ten times a week and staying there feels like hell to me. I somehow managed to go through twelve years of education in public school system but right now it seems like it all got too much for me. As a result, I've been thinking about starting something called "individual education", which is a thing where I live, and it's a bit similar to homeschooling, although I would still belong to school and have online meetings with my teachers, but I wouldn't have to stay in this loud and terrible place for multiple hours five days a week. Anyway I am afraid of change and how it would affect my education, even though I find lessons really boring since science and literature are my special interests and I already know most of the material. Has anyone ever tried something similar so late? I don't know what to do...
