Average African football discussion 🙄
For me it's probably an article from a well-known early researcher pulled out for being written by AI. Though not in my department but I'm pretty sure he is no longer affiliated with us.
A lame self-made sequel to this lame self-made meme: https://www.reddit.com/r/depressionmemes/s/73HuP5Y3UZ
Small disclaimer: my memes are from my personal experience, what works/happens to me isn't a general rule
I get that football evolved from national sport to a symbol of pride and unity. But what I don't get is how petty controversies are causing rifts between people in similar continents.
Yeah I get that the Afcon was very controversial. But I fail to relate to how it's the reason to start a race war? Players, Afcon and the football industry doesn't care about you, players got paid and staff collected the bonus and don't care anymore. What you see on the news is mostly performative and meaningless activism. Such controversy is a gold mines for Reporters and influencers for trying to attract views through ragebaiting people who disagree with them while validating others. People are making profit and fame from spreading hat and bootlicking certain officials.
On the other hand governments and politicians are trying to justify their (totally not shady) massive investment in sport by commercializing Afcon or other trophees as a symbol of success. It's ironic how African governments (from North to South) resort to turning football into an international battlefield to keep up popularity. As if paying someone to kick a ball effectivelly will atone for wrecking the economy through major mismanagements.
Soccer is just a big cash grab to people who are either in charge or taking part in playing, they really don't care about fans, all they care about is your money and how to survive. Winning Afcon to players is like a fancy internship at Google, a good addition to your resume that will garantee you a fancier job. Players portray themselves as some role models who give us lectures about morality and people buy it.
On the other hand, people who want to feel as if they are part of a movement, who wants to feel pride for being from X nationality turns into some sort of internet Vigilante that mocks and ridicule any post/event about the X country. Officials and players you are defending got their lives figured out and likely involved in some corruption scheme and don't care about you.
Africa has more and more educated population, more say in international affair and its decision making. It never had this much independence from the west. I would love seeing Africans unite over how the continent is dangerously falling behind east south Asian economies despite how both regions started from the absolute zero, instead of writing essays about the towel incident or how players walked of the pitch.
You can really see something similar in the west. People are fighting, careers ended and families broken apart as politics are becoming more and more polarizing. Only to discover, through the Epstein files, that the whole mainstream political elite is living in its own bubble where the average citizen value is null, and their fights are mostly scripts for local consumption.
An AI artist surrounds himself by people praising their "talent" and dismiss any criticism as some new form of phobia. They live in gated communities surrounded by like-minded people that validate their psychosis.
But when they have to deal with real life, it's a brutal shock. Society value talent and skills, and no matter how much praises those artists get, you won't earn your spot in the job market. To get a job you should manage to prove you have skills that distinguish you from the rest of the population. Sadly typing a prompt isn't one of them, knowing how to write fancy words in correct English isn't considered special. Unlike real artists, you can't get your name into gallery nor land a respectful job if you include "writing prompts' as a skill in your resume?
Typing prompts isn't always obvious, but it's not a distinguishing skill and it's easy to acquire. It gives you no value at the job market and makes you easily replaceable.
