Qualitative Lehrbuchanalyse nach Kuckartz

Hey Leute,

[PSA] Extremerate shellswap struggles I've fixed after a few days of troubleshooting you might experience too.

Since my first post got quite a few views I wanted to post an important update on how I adressed several issues of the aftermarket shell, buttons and so on:

  1. As you can see I've swapped to the stock D-Pad. I had some issues with the D-Pad registering presses, cleaned the motherboard contacts with 99% IPA and all, but still had no success with that. The stock D-Pad works a touch better, but what really did the trick was using 3 layers of electrical tape below the D-Pad, at the end of each section. I've also used a hole punch to layer 3 small electrical tape circles in the center of the motherboard where the D-Pad contacts are. The D-Pad is now nearly tacticle feeling and all issues are gone. Diagonals work perfectly in my case.
  2. The bottom screen had alignment issues. By stacking a bit of electrical tape in one corner I could fix the issue.
  3. The bottom screen, despite being an original one, had some wiggleroom when using the touchscreen and creaked a lot when using pressure. I fixed that by layering electrical tape (do you notice a pattern here?) on the backside of the screen where it wobbles most. Now it's securely positioned.
  4. The L-button needed a bit of cutting and sanding on a spot to make it work properly as shown in this gude.
  5. I hate some issues with overal fitting despite routing all cables corretly. That was the case for both the top and bottom shell. For the top shell I used a dremel on the inside of the outer top shell, the screws hold it all together (be careful here). The bottom shell still isn't entirely fluch if you look at the bottom screen but I'm not sure this can be fixed since there are no hooks or other support structures to hold that part in place. I also had to use longer than recommended screws to stop the inner bottom shell from wobbling and creaking.

Those were all the issues I've encountered. Now I'm sure your experience might be different, but it can also turn into days of troubleshooting like in my case. My first post got some attention so I want to make sure that you definitely know what you're getting into if it inspired you to attempt this. These shells are relatively high quality, but they're not without issues.

All of these things could be a skill-issue on my part, but just beware that this might be a pain to do. If you manage to do it right it's definitely worth the trouble, especially if your system is beat up, but otherwise? I'm not sure.

Anyways, have a great day whoever is reading through all of this and good luck if you attempt this madness. I for my part will leave my 3DS consoles in their original shells if extremerate ever releases some for the N3DSXL.

Anyone's got an idea how to change the DSpico cartridge icon?

Hey people,

just wondering why the firmware and SD-files update I've used (this one) made the cards icon look like this. I'd love if it looked more official (LNH Team and whatnot as an icon), but I don't really know what to search for and how to achieve this.

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks!

What's the washer part called that goes into the hinge gap to prevent wobble?

Hey people,

just wondering what the washer part for the hinge is called. It fell out of my n3ds xl a few weeks ago and since then my console keeps wobbling a little more to the sides.

Is there a part I can order that can be put in there to stabilize the hinge a little bit, preferably without opening everything up?

Thanks for any help!

Edit: apparently there is no such part but if anyone knows of sort of a plastic ring that would fit in there I'd be curious to know!

Best way to clean the LCD screen below the lens?

Hey people,

I've recently swapped the lens of my n3ds xl and also tried cleaning the IPS screen with some glass cleaner (that was probably a bad idea), which went okay, but it left some residual stains on the screen. After that I tried cleaning the screen carefully with IPA, slightly diluted with water and managed to get rid of most stains.

The screen itself looks perfectly in most angles and if it's turned on there's nothing visible at all, but I'm considering removing every remaining stain and wondered how to go about that, or if that's even a good idea, because I've also noticed that the LCD panel itself got scratched very lightly when I cleaned it (despite using a microfiber cloth and being very careful).

So if I just wonder, if I ever do this again or clean another panel what the best way would be.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: btw don't ever use IPA like I did, I was lucky nothing got between the screen layers and messed it up.

N3DSXL Speakers have a constant faint hissing (even with volume off)

Hey people,

I've already asked this on a console repair Discord, where nobody knew what this could be and wanted to ask on here in case anybody knows what this is.

I recently purchased a pretty good condition N3DSXL from a friend. He got it as a refurbished unit years ago, when 3DS consoles were still sold everywhere for a good price.

Everything works flawlessly but I've noticed that both speaker just constantly hiss. It's only audible if I hold the console next to my ear. Everything sounds normal otherwise, no crackling, popping or distortion - I've tested this against two other consoles (Another N3DSXL and a N2DSXL, both are completely silent) and all consoles behave the same when turning on and off soundwise.

Now this is not really a bothersome issue, but I still wonder what this could be, since both speakers are affected. The sound is too quiet to be recorded sadly, but it sounds similiar to this example on YT, despite the video demonstrating something else.

I'd appreciate any help if anyone knows what this is and if this could be fixed by simply soldering on new speakers. Anything that required me to replace the speaker ribbon-cable is probably too much of a pain to be worth the effort for me.

Thanks!

Edit: I've checked the N3DSXL of my gf and it has the same phenomenon. My guess it's just the speaker lottery/the amp driving them - probably nothing to worry about and not bothersome during gameplay at all.

How do I safely clone a modded n3dsxl to another?

Hey people,

just wondering about this because I don't want to mess anything up: I have a perfectly configured n3ds xl and acquired another one for cheap today so I am wondering if it's possible to clone one console to another. I know there are some guides out there but the whole NNID thing confuses me a bit so I wanted to ask on here too.

Thanks in advance for any help! (both system run the most recent luma 3ds firmware)

Which Sly Cooper version uses the full screen of the vita?

Hey people,

this probably has been asked a thousand times but I can't find the answer. I downloaded several versions of the sly cooper games and the first game always has this interlaced resolution and black borders everywhere.

Is it possible to have a game that adjusts the resolution to the vita's entire screen I can get somewhere and if yes, where?

Thanks for any help!

Light shining through part of the case

Hey people,

just wondering if this can be fixed somehow. I have bought two purple minis (one for my gf, one for me) and both have this exact same spot where the display's light shines through.

I know this is only a minor issue, probably something from the molding process, but I wonder if it can be fixed somehow.

Thanks for any help!

Hey people,

I've recently acquired a budget lav mic from PowerDewise but sadly I haven't really been able to resolve the static issues I have with pretty much any microphone at my computer. It's sort of a low buzzing.

I've tried using a USB to AUX adapter with no success, used the front and rear AUX port, tried a groundloop isolator (which completely removed the audio input) and also one of these USB voltage isolators without any success. The static buzzing remains.

For now my only semi-good solution is relying on a EQ APO VST plugin that's called "RNNoise suppression for voice" and while it works fine there's still a bit of static present while I'm speaking into the microphone.

I tried hooking up my computer to a single poweroutlet too, which didn't help and now I am kinda out of ideas. I have some very old USB audio interface laying around, which I'd need to order a powersupply for, but I'm not sure if it will fix the issue.

Is there anything else I could try to get rid of this issue?
