Boston's new Penguin Coast attraction at the Franklin Park Zoo!!

Penguin Coast is now home to 18 critically endangered African penguins. This is an outdoor habitat including an underwater view to see them swim under the water

Yes they have names but only 5 have been released so far!!

  • Good Hope: 36 years old - Male

  • Fun Fact: He is one of the oldest African penguins in North America. He has a distinct look because he had an eye removed to treat glaucoma.

  • Boulders: 35 years old - Male

  • Fun Fact: As a super-senior, he manages advanced arthritis with daily medications tucked inside his favorite fish.

  • Harlequin: 33 years old - Female

  • Fun Fact: She is highly experienced and historically acted as a "foster mom" to help raise other chicks in her regional network.

  • Lambert: 33 years old - Male - He is completely paired up with his mate, Dyer. Like Good Hope, he also safely had an eye removed due to glaucoma.

  • Dyer: 15 years old - Female

  • Fun Fact: She is the youngest of the announced senior group and is the devoted partner to Lambert.

LightView is currently doing $105 off per month rate on remaining beds.

Hey everyone, just wanted to drop a heads up for anyone still scrambling for housing next term. LightView put out a $105/month discount, which ends up saving about $1,260 over the year.

How it works:

  • They aren't changing the base rent, it just shows up as an automatic credit on your portal (so a $1,849 room drops to $1,744 when you go to pay).
  • For new leases only, so if you have already signed there won't be a discount.
  • It's for floor plans they're trying to fill right now, mostly shared bedrooms and some 4-bed layouts.

If you're looking at LightView, it’s super close to campus, very maintained, and utilities are inclusive. Plus, you sign for your own bed space, so you won't be on the hook for anything if a roommate bails on rent.

Drop any questions below!

Is University Pointe worth it for TTU students in 2026?

Hey Red Raiders, if you're looking at off campus housing for the upcoming terms, UPointe is always one of the first names that pops up. Here is the quick, direct breakdown of what you actually need to know before signing.

Location & Commute

  • The Setup: Located right on Glenna Goodacre Blvd, making it an easy 10 minute walk and a 3 minute bike ride to TTU.
  • Transit: It sits directly on the Citibus Tech Shuttle route, which is a lifesaver when Lubbock weather acts up and you want to save money on TTU parking pass.
  • The Scene: Super close to local spots like Spanky's, Torchy's, and Jones AT&T Stadium for tailgating.

The Apartment & Leases

  • By-the-Bed Leases: Individual liability leases, meaning you aren't responsible if your roommate flakes on rent.
  • Move-In Ready: Fully furnished (beds, desks, living room setup) with full-sized in-unit washers and dryers.
  • Layouts: They offer 2x2, 3x3, and 4x4 floor plans with private bathrooms for every bedroom.

Amenities & Vibe

  • Perks: 24-hour gym, study center with free printing, resort-style pool, and sand volleyball courts.
  • Social Scene: It’s a massive student community, so it's naturally great for meeting people, though it can get lively on weekends.

Current & Past Residents

If you're currently living at UPointe or recently moved out, drop some knowledge for everyone trying to lock in their housing:

  1. How are the electricity utility caps holding up? Are you guys hitting overages?
  2. How fast is management and maintenance responding to work orders this semester?
  3. Would you sign here again, or look elsewhere?

Drop your honest thoughts below!

There are two types of people in this world: those who skip TV intros, and those who know and love the full “In between the lines there’s a lot of obscurity…” (this is why I love season 3 so much, the extended version starts to play)

How strict is the towing and visitor parking at U Pointe?

Trying to get some insight from current or past residents about the parking situation before the Fall semester starts.

How strict is the towing company they use? If friends come over on weekends or game days, is the visitor parking usually packed, or is it relatively easy to find a spot? Just want to know what to expect so nobody gets hit with a fine.
