I built something quite personal and I’d really value your opinion on it

I grew up with a father who struggled with gambling addiction and was emotionally unavailable. Through therapy, I’ve only recently started to understand how much that affected my relationships and the way I saw myself.

Growing up, I didn’t really have anyone to talk to about these things. I often wished there was a place where I could speak anonymously with people who actually understood.

So I built Betweenussupport. It’s a free, anonymous community where people are matched with a small group of others who have had similar experiences. It’s not therapy, just a place to share and feel a little less alone.

I’d genuinely love to hear what you think. Would you have used something like this? What would make you trust it, or not trust it?

I’m 37 and only recently started understanding how much growing up with a gambling addict father affected me

I started therapy about five months ago, and it's made me think about a lot of things I had just accepted as normal.

I grew up in Macedonia and there wasn't really anywhere to talk about this stuff. I didn't know anyone who had been through something similar, so I mostly just kept it to myself.

Recently I started thinking about how many people probably still carry these experiences alone, especially when they don't have access to support or don't feel comfortable talking about it in person.

That’s why I built a small free anonymous community called Between Us. It's basically a place for people who are dealing with the effects of difficult relationships, addiction, abuse or emotional unavailability to talk to others who understand.

I'm not trying to replace therapy or existing support groups. I just wanted to create something that I wish I had when I was younger.

I'd really appreciate some honest opinions from people here. Does something like this feel useful to you? Would you actually use a platform like this, and what would make you feel comfortable using it?

I'm much more interested in hearing what people think than promoting it.

I built something for people like us and would love your honest thoughts

Hope you are all doing okay.

I wanted to share something personal and get your honest feedback if you are open to it.

About 5 months ago I started therapy and honestly it changed my life. I grew up with a father with a gambling addiction who was also verbally abusive and emotionally unavailable. He is still battling addiction today and I am 37 now. I am also gay and through therapy I started realising I had been choosing the same kind of partners over and over and struggling with intimacy and self worth without even knowing why. I only connected those dots when I finally let myself get help.

What I mourn a little is all the lost time. I was stuck in a loop for so long and I did not even know it. When I was growing up in Macedonia there was nobody I could go to about any of this. Therapy was a stigma and I had no community, no guidance, nothing. I felt completely alone and in the dark for years without even realising I could get help.

That experience made me want to build something.

There is no space I know of where you can anonymously share what you are going through and actually be heard by people facing the same thing. Not a big forum where anyone can comment. Not a clinical service. Just a small circle of people who truly get it.

So I built something. It is a free anonymous community where you get matched with a small group of people who share similar experiences. You can share, read, respond at whatever pace feels right. No real names, no therapists, no clinical labels. Just people who understand: https://www.betweenussupport.com/

I want it to be a small spark of light for people who feel stuck. That is genuinely all.

Would love to know honestly if this resonates with you. Would something like this have helped you when you needed it most? What would make you trust it or not trust it?

Thank you so much for reading. Love and light to everyone here 💙
