It LOOKS like the Jane Austen 250th Birthday Prompt Fest is still active, so...

Hey all, so I was looking for a JAFF fic fest, because I seriously need some incentive and a deadline to write... and it actually looks like the Jane Austen 250th Birthday Prompt Fest is still ongoing. The prompts are up here: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/Austen250PromptFest/claims?for_user=true and more of the rules are here: https://austenexchange.dreamwidth.org/

AFAICT, the signups seem to be 24 July to 2 August, and the posting deadline is 18 September. I was able to sign up for a prompt even though it obviously isn't July 24th yet. So I did it!! This was possibly an insane decision. :P But I'm going to do it. Is anybody else participating in this fest?

Does anybody know of any JAFF fic fests starting now?

Hey all, so I really need the incentive provided by having signed up for a fic fest, claimed a prompt, and now facing a deadline. So does anyone know of any fests that are in the claiming/writing stage right now?? All suggestions welcome. :)

Which coolers are large enough to hold a full Cook Unity bag?

Hey all, so sitting around waiting for a delivery all day on a given day just isn't working anymore. I know that some people will get an extra large cooler, put it on the porch, and have the bag put in there. I just need to know which coolers are really large enough to hold a full Cook Unity bag. Does anyone have specific recommendations with names/links? Thanks!

Is it normal to get results within 3 days at the lowest dose (at a once daily injectable)?

Hey all, so I just started on liraglutide (long story as to why this is the one I'm on, just take it as a given.) Yesterday was the third day. In the morning, before the third injection, the way I wanted to eat suddenly felt completely different. My sister wanted to go to Dairy Queen for lunch, and I had no interest in anything sweet!! I was offered cookies later in the day and was able to say NO!!! I ate half of a CookUnity meal for dinner! Sorry about the exclamation points, but it felt kind of insane. It hasn't been like that in YEARS, since before I had to go on another med that is infamous for turning people into hunger monsters.

If things continue on this, I don't see any reason to go up from .6 mg. I don't have any GI side effects at all and would rather keep it that way. But it sure happened fast. Thoughts?

Just started a GLP 1 med....

Hey all, so after jumping through endless hoops, I was finally able to start a GLP 1 med. It's liraglutide, one of the oldest ones, but it's thought to be a good one to take if you're already on other meds because the concentration of the medication can be a lot more even over time than the weekly ones. (It's a daily injection, which kind of explains why it fell out of favor.) I don't know how it's going to work out, because today was only the second day, but I'll post again with updates. :)

Israel continues attacks on Lebanon despite agreeing to ceasefire

That sure didn't last long. I'm sure this won't cause a problem with Iran sticking to the MOU, or anything...

"Israel has continued to attack Lebanon *after* the new ceasefire with Hezbollah was reported, (emphasis added), raising fears that Tel Aviv is trying to wreck the fragile agreement tied to wider efforts to end Middle East hostilities.

On Friday, officials and diplomats from the United States and the Gulf separately told news agencies that the two sides agreed that a ceasefire would start at 4pm local time (13:00 GMT).

Despite the ceasefire, at least 12 Israeli air raids and continual artillery shelling hit southern Lebanon after the deadline, according to reports from the ground. Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported an Israeli drone strike killed two people travelling on a motorcycle in southern Lebanon after the ceasefire had taken hold.

Israel and Hezbollah reportedly “agreed to halt hostilities” after Qatar, the United States and Iran brokered the ceasefire, a Gulf diplomat told the AFP news agency, requesting anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. He said the ceasefire aimed to stop the escalation in Lebanon from derailing a broader push to turn the interim US-Iran agreement into a lasting regional peace deal.

The Israeli military killed at least 47 people and wounded 97 in attacks on Lebanon that began at midnight and continued through Friday, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

Shortly before the ceasefire began, a senior US official said that the agreement had been reached through US and Qatari mediation, with Iran’s help. “We understand that after the exchange of fire earlier today, Israel and Hezbollah are now in a ceasefire,” the official told the Reuters news agency.

A Hezbollah official told Al Jazeera that the ceasefire would hold if Israel abided by it. Israel’s ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, also said on X: “Israel remains firmly committed to an immediate ceasefire. If Hezbollah honours the agreement and ceases its hostilities, they will be met with quiet.”

But Israel’s attacks continued almost immediately, leaving residents in southern Lebanon questioning whether the ceasefire had any meaning."

ETA: What I think is interesting about this is that Israel supposedly made the deal directly with Hezbollah rather than the govt of Lebanon. Who knows what really happened.

Just one reason why this "deal" will fall apart: Iran says the initial deal to end the war with the US requires Israel to withdraw from Lebanon

"Iran’s top diplomat says the tentative deal to end the war with the United States would require Israel to withdraw from Lebanon — a condition Israel has already rejected and that could sink the agreement." This isn't the only reason why this MOU won't amount to anything (another one being the IRGC,) but it's certainly one of them. I really don't know exactly how oil prices will be affected in the short to medium term. I only have long positions. But however a failed "deal" will affect them, that's what we're going to see. The MOU itself allows for Iran retaining some kind of control over the strait, and even that is not enough for the IRGC. I think that should be kept in mind of terms of what the IRGC actually does want. Eventually, I think they'll settle for strict Iranian control over Hormuz, and there needs to be more discussion about exactly what that will mean for oil, gas, helium, fertilizer, etc, prices. Anyway, here's the WaPo article from this morning: https://archive.ph/rUHFm#selection-305.0-305.203

ETA: It's a fair question to ask why Iran wouldn't just settle for $300 billion and then stick to the terms of the "deal", and some have brought this up. The reason why I think they might not, or at least the IRGC might not, is that they're not going to have $300 billion in their hands immediately. Instead, they have a future promise from the US that is contingent on Iran's behavior. I would be very skeptical in that situation that I would ever be getting all that money.

U.S. launches new attacks on Iran in response to downing of helicopter, CENTCOM says

Well that actually did not take long.. it'll be interesting to see how oil prices respond.

Doctor wrote prescription for liraglutide -- how to get it filled as "generic victoza' and not "generic saxenda" which is literally THREE TIMES the price??

Hi, I know we can't give medical advice or anything, but PLEASE, PLEASE, if anyone knows how to fix this problem, I desperately need help. Generic liraglutide is the only GLP 1 I can try right now. (It's a long story as to why, but please believe me when I say that after dozens and dozens of hours of research, that's the case.) My doctor wrote prescription for generic liraglutide . Cost Plus Drugs is saying it can only be filled as generic for Saxenda, literally more than triple the price. How can my doctor write this prescription so that they will fill it as liraglutide, generic for Victoza, at less than 1/3 the price for just a slightly lower dose? I cannot possibly afford to pay for "generic saxenda." This is my only option. Has anyone run into this? How can the prescription be written so that it will go through as "generic victoza" instead??? Does it need to be written as "Victoza" with "substitutions/generic allowed"?? Cost Plus Drugs is by far the cheapest option and I don't know if I can make this work if I have to go to another pharmacy, and maybe I'd just run into the same problem there.

Has anyone had any issues with a GLP-1 interacting with pysch meds, especially liraglutide?

Hey all, so I really think I'll go on a GLP 1 this summer because of effects from quetiapine... I think we all know what I'm talking about!! I have nocturnal eating parasomnia, eating in the middle of the night and not even remembering it the next day. So willpower is not going to cut it. I know exactly what my diet should be, and I also exercise a lot including weightlifting. I'm at the point where I just have to try this. BUT... I really want to know if people have had any negative experiences (or positive ones, I guess), with a GLP 1 interacting with the other meds we have to take. Seroquel, lamotrigine, lithium, vraylar, valproate, etc. I especially want to know if anyone has taken liraglutide along with the other meds. It's the one that must be injected daily. But any experiences about any GLP 1 including the Wegovy and Foundayo pills, please share! If you had any issues, are there any tips or tricks to avoid them ? (taking the GLP 1 apart from the others, ex.) All thoughts and personal experiences welcome! 😄

Hey all, so I'm thinking about starting a new server after a helpful member suggested it, and it would be based on the monthly Trackboard leaderboards I've been doing (and plan on continuing to do until the heat death of the universe.) It would be really helpful to be able to discuss writing and goals with the other members. So... thoughts? Who thinks this is a good plan? What would you like to see in it?

Join us for a fun month of writing and reaching our goals together. Here’s the direct join link: https://trackbear.app/leaderboards/join?joinCode=9261ea18-37f5-48f4-9884-19566b3eee30

And here’s the join code: 9261ea18-37f5-48f4-9884-19566b3eee30

Please note: the goals for this leaderboard need to be at least 3,000 words, 3 chapters, or 50 pages of editing. I got some real feedback about this last month, so I’m going to have to set this new participation rule.

Last month was a very productive month with lots of people reaching their goals, so let’s do it again! 😊
