I headcanon that it is both thriving AND machiavellian. There is endless creativity, professions, professionalism, and friendship/cooperation, and there's the "oppressive" aspect of not speaking against the government and the militaristic policing. It is justifiable, however, as they are somehow finding a way to provide you your infinite wants and dream life, and speaking out against that because you can't speak against it just seems, well, undemocratic.

Now it's not exactly a full recovery just yet, but this is the second time we beat the drifters' attempt at ruining zeals life. Art will prevail so long as the artist believes in it. Godspeed.
