Huge bone seen at estate sale in NC

It’s so big my first thought was whale. The smooth shiny black area is very odd. The other end is rounded and made me think of a ball and socket joint. The little holes in it are exactly like ones Ive seen in a whale vertebrae.

Anyone know John Lee Reynolds or what happened to him?

I grew up with him and recently heard he died. He went to st pauls, summit, and I think mt tabor. He would have been about 49-50. He had had a major chest surgery when very young, I don’t remember why, that might have contributed to his death. I was very sad to hear he died, he was an extremely smart and even funnier person. Im just curious if anyone knows what happened.

What do we think about the bootlegs out there like the Outcesticide set?

I’m building my CD collection back up as I head into retirement, and recently Outcesticide 2,3,&4 popped up on fbmp locally and I was able to grab the three for fifty bucks. I just got them and haven’t listened to any yet, but I was just digging around the internet on the set and apparently there’s tons of other bootlegs. I’m just curious if anyone has heard any of these and what’s worth having. Some of the Outcesticide disks have some hefty price tags. Ty

My original 1992 copy of the Hormoaning EP (Japanese)

In the “rarest physical media” post recently someone said they’d never seen a copy of this. I had no idea this had been released until I stumbled on two copies at Peaches in Winston Salem. I was a poor 15yo so I could only afford one copy, they were twenty bucks each which was high back then. Oh how I wish I had gotten the other and not opened it. This version of Aneurysm happens to be my favorite song of theirs. In the picture, my original is on top with white back, below is an unopened copy a friend gave me years later that I immediately assumed was a bootleg because it was missing the white paper with Japanese characters that ran along the spine of the original. My mom threw that out when she tore down my wall of nirvana posters etc when we had a disagreement. Im posting this just to show an original and see if anyone else has seen a copy like the bottom one. The front and back covers are identical except for a slight color difference. I’ve never opened the bottom one to see if the booklet is different.

Lost/stolen book at Precision Tune North Raleigh

I know this is a Hail Mary but: I left some stuff at Precision Tune on the corner of six forks and Strickland after an oil change this past week. When I returned the next day, all my stuff was in the lost and found except a small paperback book, Slightly Out of Focus by Robert Capa, with a planet fitness sticker in it as a bookmark. There was other usable stuff that was left but the book is gone. It’s a bizarre thing to steal, so I don’t think that was it. It’s not valuable, but I’d really like to finish it, and no library in NC (I belong to most) has a copy I can borrow. If you somehow ended up with it I would love to have it back. Ty

Fatboy slim EPs

I really like most of Youve come… and palookaville, the other two albums not so much. I just realized there’s several EPs as well, are any of them worth seeking out? Ty

Depo Medrol Experience

Just thought I would report my results. I’m in early stages with no curving of any fingers but have nodules on my palm and in two first knuckles. The shot was in my palm. It took some time but I found a provider and got the shot. The injection hurt like hell for about ten seconds, and my cost without insurance was about 500$. The nodule significantly softened and has noticeably shrunk, though the dr said it wouldn’t, and no longer causes any problems. It was definitely worth it to me.

Later Primus music question

I loved everything up to Tales…, I got antipop (my very last tape) and was disappointed, although I thought dirty drowning man was an excellent song. I haven’t checked out anything later and don’t know what direction they went. Im just curious what other fans think of the later stuff. I’m rebuilding my cd collection and wondering if im missing out. I always liked the faster paced stuff that fit well with the 90s grunge/metal sound. Any opinions appreciated.

ETA: If you guys haven’t heard Oysterhead you’re missing out imho

Very early childhood experience seeing spectral “people”

I have always been able to remember back an extremely long time, way before psychology says people are supposed to be able to form memories. Like before even my first birthday. I remember things like breast feeding. Relevant to this sub, I’ve always had trouble sleeping so as a baby I have lots of memories of lying in my crib and later bed staring into the darkness. I would see these “people “, for lack of better word, who would walk down the hall that my door looked out to, sometimes they would stop at the doorway like they were looking at me, I don’t recall them ever coming into my room but they may have, they didn’t scare me at all and I was so young it didn’t even occur to me to think any of this was abnormal. Regarding their appearance, they were human shaped and consisted of spectral lines, like a shimmering rainbow, changing colors all the time in all places. This happened many many times so I don’t think it could be explained by a dream. I tried to talk to them sometimes but I don’t recall them ever reactin except one night when one of them was stopped at my door I talked to it and it seemed to turned into my dad, if that makes any sense, and told me to go to sleep. That said I don’t think I was just misinterpreting seeing other people in the house because my parents always slept soundly and were never prone to sleepwalking or anything. Fwiw, I have always had very light sensitive eyes and good night vision.

I’ll probably post this in another post but I have had an encounter with a ghost which convinced me that there’s something beyond this world (I was never inclined to believe in the paranormal before this). Im mainly posting this just to see if anyone ever experienced anything similar, or any other really odd early childhood memories of things you can’t explain. Thx for reading.

Looking for a particular “park” in Northeast Raleigh or nearby

A few years ago I visited a spot I really enjoyed, I don’t think it was either technically a park or trail, but there was an area to park off the road. I remember it was in the northeast part, maybe outside of Raleigh proper. We drove up a road going that direction, pulled off into a rutted unpaved dirt area on the left side of the road. The prominent features were a ton of exposed flat rock with a creek running through it. We visited once but the water was too high, but came back during drought and it’s very easy to navigate, but again no clear trail to anywhere. It’s quite large, maybe five to ten acres. Does this ring a bell for anyone? There were several others there so it’s not like it’s super secret. Any ideas appreciated. I want to visit again during drought conditions. Ty

Antenna TV Question

When I lived in the middle of Wilmington I used an antenna to get three of the four network channels (the forth I think was nbc and was spotty I think the tower was much farther away), plus several second rate channels I never watched. That was less than ten years ago. Now Im just north of Wilmington in the south part of hampstead and all I get with the same set up is the crappy channels that I have no use for. This has come to a head bc the World Cup is the one sports event I care about and I can’t see the games on fox. I have tried multiple antennas on different tvs with the same result. I thought maybe being at low elevation near the icw might be the culprit but someone on the hampstead fb group said they’re right by the water and get all the (network) channels free on their antenna. Does anyone know what might be going on here? I’m honestly at the point Id pay someone to fix this for me, but there’s no one to call for something like this that I know of. Any advice other than “just get cable“ appreciated.

Looking for a good tomato chutney

I used to buy a great tomato chutney from Kerala Curry out of graham, but they have apparently closed and aren’t replying to my emails. Our area has a huge south Asian community, can someone turn me on to a good alternative. Locally made a plus. Thank you

Anyone else get a late payment penalty but paid early or on time?

Mailed April 11 but didn’t get it certified mail (not making that mistake again), IRS didn’t cash it until May 6. No idea why, but I thought it was considered paid by the post mark? Of course I can’t prove it so I’m out 300$.

Any corn at the farmers market yet?

Sorry, I live a long way to drive to find out. My dad wants corn for Father’s Day and hasn’t found any in his area, I would love to find some silver queen for Sunday, or at least something better than Harris Teeter corn! Thank you for any info.

Interested bit about family budgeting from Yank Far East 1944 magazine

I collect ww2 stuff including periodicals which I read and came across this in a story about the typical war worker back home today. Keep in mind this is with rationing going on. They reference widely held rumors among troops (with some truth, some manufacturers were making a killing off of war production.). Id be curious how my own budgeting would compare to theirs (been a while since I did my own budget).

What are these?

Found on eBay which used to not let people list pirated stuff . The listings don’t show the actual mini cds just the packaging. Anyone know if they are legit or just some homemade crap?

Stupid baritone guitar question

Stupid Guitar question: after wanting one for twenty years I finally got a baritone guitar. I’ve been playing for decades but don’t know much about the technology behind guitars. I always assumed a baritone guitar would be longer/taller than my electric but shorter than my bass, so I was surprised when my Squier baritone guitar looked pretty much just like my old telecaster. Is a baritone guitar simply a guitar that has been strung/tuned to play lower tones? Could I just turn my telecaster into a baritone? Sorry for the dumb question.

Looking for very high energy music eg Turbonegro, Bad Brains, Butthole Surfers etc

I recently discovered turbonegro and they’ve become my new favorite band of the moment, I especially love Party Animals. I love the really fast pace, but for whatever reason I can’t get into the really heavy/death metal , even slayer, though they have some killer songs, just doesn’t do it for me. I liked pantera but burned out on them years ago. Some other examples of this high energy stuff I love from various genres: nirvana very ape, beastie boys sabotage, killing joke whiteout, fatboy slim funk soul brother, ministry hero, tool tivks and leeches, gnr the entire appetite album, etc.

Im familiar with most of the big names of the nineties, but hoping there’s more to find out there like I recently found turbonegro. I asked basically this same question here about a year ago and someone turned me on to the poster children’s If you see kay, so Im trying again. Thanks
