Putting the World in to Sensible World of Soccer

This started off as an experiment to see if I could make a web port of SWOS to play on my phone with a Bluetooth controller. Then I wanted to see if I could zoom out to see more of the pitch in order to play with the phone in portrait mode (which works really well on SWOS given it’s vertical orientation) but then I got a bit carried away with the zoom out functionality!

Note: yes this was all coded with AI. And yes as a software developer myself I’m concerned that my current development skills are going to be largely redundant pretty soon. But to have a version of SWOS where whatever I can think up can become a reality is just bloody awesome. Can’t deny it!!

SWOS Transfers Utility

I made this SWOS transfer helper utility that some of you here might appreciate (url below)👇

https://instinct-games.github.io/swos-transfers

It’s based on the GazChap website that does a similar thing but this has a few extra bells and whistles:

- filter and sort entire player database by attributes, value, position etc
- save a shortlist of players you are interested in
- keep notes on each player (failed bids etc)
- keep track of your own team
- save snapshots of your own team (for reminiscing?!)
- mobile optimised (but better on desktop if you are taking this seriously 🧐)

It’s a static web page but if you want to “save” anything for use elsewhere you can export/import to file.

This has proven invaluable in plotting my way to Premier League success with minnows from Division Three - where every penny counts - so figured I’d share it 🤓

1 star reviews from South Africa that look suspiciously similar

Anyone else experienced receiving one star reviews from South Africa App Store users that say words to the effect of “Literally doesn’t work at all” and the usernames look like a stream of random characters?

The first one had me genuinely concerned, but we’ve had a few in now and they look suspiciously similar so I’m wondering if something else is going on here.

Could just be low end iOS devices not being able to run the app BUT not seeing anything to that effect in analytics/crash reports. And I have a bunch of old iOS devices I’ve tested on that work just fine.

Google Partnership Opportunity - how exclusive is it?

This arrived in my developer account inbox yesterday from Google. Wondering how “exclusive” this offer actually is or if everyone else with a Google Developer account got it too?!

About to find out how effective beer mat marketing campaigns are to promote my game

£25 for 250 beer mats

Need 7 app purchases to cover the cost!

They were delivered a week later than expected but fortunately England are still in the tournament. Hoping I’ll be using them in packed pubs on Sunday too 🙏

What’s the best plugin for doing 3D angled phone bezels in Figma?

Any recommendations for creating these 3D angled phone bezels? I seem them everywhere so I’m assuming it’s relatively straight forward these days (albeit not supported out of the box in Figma)

If you can vibe it in a day anyone can

This is fast becoming the new reality. Feels like I’m being hit with a great new idea and product every other day - and all of these product offerings reach for an ambitious subscription price to carry on using it. But my immediate response right now is - thanks for the idea I’ll just vibe that myself thanks (as I’m already paying a monthly subscription for the same AI tools you’ve used to plop this together).

So as with all products and services - the ones that have had the most time spent on them, genuine expertise and care poured in to them will rise to the top. As that’s the value exchange. Someone else has put the time in so you don’t have to.

The number of “non technical” people I know who now use Claude to do and build stuff surprises me every day. I’m a massive fan of how this tech is empowering people. It’s an incredible pivot in technology. But I think the “get rich quick” from an overnight vibe coded project window is fast diminishing.

[DEV] International Cup with Friends feature added to Retro Football ⚽️ Career Game Striker’s Instinct

My recently launched retro inspired football career game now has an International Cup with Friends multiplayer feature

Think “Words with Friends” meets “New Star Soccer” (if either of those games mean anything to you!)

Start a campaign, pick your country, invite friends and see if your Striker has the composure to take their team all the way and lift the Cup!

First of it’s kind “turn based” multiplayer ultra casual football sim action for mobile

Press Release Advice

Hi folks

I published my first game a few months ago in the (App and Play Stores). It’s now stable (bugs wise) and converting quite well (approx 8% install to paid from our first 1000 users)

I’m now looking to push ahead with some low budget (that’s all I have!) marketing and putting together a press release seems to be the first port of call

Anyone have any tips/advice/resources for this?

It’s an “ultra casual” football game. I’ve just added a World Cup 2026 feature so hoping to tap in to some World Cup fever - if that’s even possible for shoe string budget indie apps!

Does the standard sales pitch for my app need refinement?

Me: “Do you have a phone?”
Them: “Errr, yes”

Me: “Do you like football?”

BRANCH 1
Them: yes”
Me: “you should download my app”
END OF BRANCH 1

BRANCH 2
Them: “Not really no”
Me: “Do you want me to lap dance for you?”

Them: “What?”
Me: “Or monkey tennis then, do you want me to create a game called monkey tennis?”

Them: “Erm, what are you on about?”
Me: “maybe Inner City Sumo?”

Them: “mate, you are freaking me out”
Me: “OH FORGET IT!”
END OF BRANCH 2

Bonus prize for first person to get the reference

Has anyone used a good service/company for getting your apps and App Store listings translated in to other languages that you would recommend?

I want human eye balls on it basically - AI willingly dashed off and translated the whole app in a few mins but want to make sure it’s not awful & confusing for users
