Teaching in Vietnam

Hi! I (25F) am just finishing up my CELTA course and am planning to move to Vietnam to (hopefully!) teach English. I'm a US citizen currently living in Ireland, and so far, I have my FBI background check sent for the apostille as well as my diploma. I feel that I'm pretty on top of paperwork, minus actually finding a job lol!

Once months ago when I was on this sub I saw a spreadsheet with a ton of language center resources or jobs, does anyone have a link to that? Or have any practical recs or know of any job openings I could apply to? Basically I'm hoping to start my application process (as much as I can before I have my CELTA cert and am in the country), and would love any recs on the job side of things. Thanks so much!

How would you feel if you got this text from your ex?

How would you feel if you got a text from your ex asking to grab a drink bc they have something to tell you?

I got a text three weeks ago from my ex asking to grab a drink bc he has something to tell me, but said it’s not bad so I shouldn’t worry. We haven’t hung out one-on-once since our breakup two months ago. We’ve both been traveling for three weeks, so we’re now getting drinks next week.

It’s been on my mind everyday for these weeks. Would you feel the same for you? What could he have to say?

I (25F) think I need to tell my ex (26M) that I love him?

I (25F) dated a close friend (26M) since the beginning of December 2025. We are both living abroad, so we quickly became each other's closest person in this country. We have the same friends, live very close to each other, and he met my family. We had a fight at the beginning of June that led to our breakup, which obviously has been hard for us both. We spoke a few times throughout June, but decided to step back even as friends in our social circle to take time to heal towards the end of June.

I'm moving to another country on October 1, which he knows. I feel in my gut that I need him to know that I love him before I leave the country because we never said it. I texted him for the first time in a month last night asking to get a pint with him because I have something to tell him, and he agreed. But he's traveling this week and I'm traveling for the two weeks after, so we made plans to meet in three weeks.

I've been going back and forth - is this selfish? I think to some extent it is, because I could be causing him more pain. But on the other hand, our situation is unique because we grew so close while abroad, and I know I need to say goodbye to him before I go. I just have this feeling like I need to get it off my chest. I know he won't say it back because we're not dating and I know we won't get back together from this - we're not meant to be. I just need him to know that I really love him. What are your thoughts? What would you do?

Men who go after young girls (19,20,21) how do you feel?

My ex and I recently broke up, and since then, our friends told me he’s sleeping with some younger girls, ages like 19-21, and we’re 26. Obviously everything’s legal, but personally as a 26 year old I find that a little gross

He struggles with intimacy and insecurity, which is a big part of why we broke up. He’d pick fights over the littlest things bc he felt threatened and then wouldn’t be able to communicate what he was feeling in a calm way, and he found flip out when he got criticism about it. Basically can be emotionally immature

I’m so curious about the male perspective of going after younger girls. For those who’ve done it, what did it feel like? Were you doing it subconsciously for validation or control? Were you aware it was kinda weird and feel embarrassed? Maybe I’m way off, so if that’s the case, I’d love to hear

Kissing on the cheek etiquette with ex’s

Hi! My Italian ex and I just broke up about a week ago, and we ran into each other at the bar last night. I know all his friends so as I was getting a drink I said a quick hello and he gave me the two quick kisses, which he never did while dating. If we weren’t kissing goodbye he would just give me a regular hug. Then as he was leaving he came over to me and did it again? Is this like a more formal greeting/goodbye than a regular hug? Thanks!

Does healing ever get easier?

I’ve been actively working through my anxious attachment and healing patterns from childhood for about a year. It’s been so much work, and I feel like healing is a journey I’ll be on forever. Choosing the right decision and not just the easy one, setting boundaries, and loving people where they’re at are conscious choices I continuously have to make knowing it’s what’s best for me.

It all just feels so… heavy. Honestly, it can get so exhausting working through emotional shit. Shouldn’t life feel lighter than this?

Vietnam or Thailand?

Hi! I (24F) am currently getting my CELTA and am planning on moving to either Vietnam or Thailand to teach English for a year. I'm so excited, but I'm also nervous as hell! I've moved from the US to Europe, but the move from Europe to Asia is a whole other level of culture difference.

I've started the FBI background check because I'm aiming for a November move. I'm planning on getting my CELTA legalized and my instructor said my timeline should be fine with how fast they've been getting the physical certificates back. I'm trying to be on top of paperwork by having my legalized diploma as well, but if there's anything I'm missing, please feel free to lmk lol!

Anyway, I've narrowed down the countries I'm going to apply to Vietnam and Thailand. I would LOVE to know which you would pick - culture, economy, visa process, everything. Which would you pick? Thanks!!

Am I Too Late?

Hi! I just submitted my application this morning, and then saw on this reddit that most people submitted minutes after it opened. I didn't realize it was first come first serve? Because I'm applying a week into the application period, am I not likely to get a spot? Thanks for the help!

How soon after CELTA cert can you secure a job?

Hi! I (24F) am starting my CELTA course in a few weeks. I’m really excited!

I’m currently living in Ireland on a Working Holiday Visa that is up mid-October, exactly one month after my CELTA course finishes. I’m going home back to the States for a few weeks/up to a month before hopefully relocating to South East Asia (hopefully Vietnam) to start a job teaching towards the end of November/early December.

My question is, is landing a job in SEA for mid-November a realistic timeline with my CELTA that ends mid-September? What has been your experience?

Thanks so much!!

What’s the meanest thing your partner has said to you? Should I end things because of this comment?

Last week I was feeling down so I asked my situationship if they could tell me some compliments and nice things and they said “you don’t deserve that.” Kinda meant it as a joke but oof

Hi! I (24F) have been sleeping with my good friend (26M) for about five months now. We're not exclusive and we're really not compatible for a serious relationship, but we're very close. We both moved to Ireland within the same month from other countries and met through mutual friends. Him and I hang out outside of having sex regularly both alone and with friends, and don't just view each other as sexual partners.

My question is, do you cuddle with your fwb? I never have before, it's always been just sex and either go to sleep or leave. But we will have sex and give each other massages and cuddles for literal hours afterwards each time. I totally get that every situation is different and there's no set rules, but I'm wondering about other people's experiences when sleeping with their friends? For me, cuddling creates emotional intimacy. I already cared about him as a person because he's my friend, but all the cuddling makes me feel more connected. I don't want to date him (like I said we're not compatible), but I feel like it's natural to wonder if he's doing this with the other girls he's (presumably) sleeping with?

Hi! I’m trying to pay my US Capital One credit card with an Ireland Revolut, connecting by Mastercard number bc bank info isn’t the same type of numbers. It won’t let me - does anyone know how to get around this? Thanks!
