Feel like im behind and missing out

hey guys. I'm a freshman, and I feel like im missing out on a ton of shit, it's just I dont have the ability to do it. I'm talking about competitive maths/programming, like kids my age be winning insane competitions, or others are doing research by a prestigous program, others are varsity sports etc. Like I personally dont have the resoucres [money, connections, the opportunity itself]. I compare myself a ton to them because like why am I not doing anything good yet impressive in my teenage years? I'm trying to learn and develop skills but it's not enough.

I'd like some advice, and not letting me down, like most people do when I vent, please.

How to prepare for cognitive tests/resources

Hello. I'll be taking a cognitive test, and I'd like some resources or advice on how to solve them. Questions will be similar to CAT4 or a gifted student's tests. I'd love some resources like videos or practice questions to be well prepared.

Thanks a lot.

Learning how to learn and practice competitive maths (help!)

Hello, I'm a freshman. Not so long ago, I fixed my relationship with math, which I used to hate. Currently, I'm working my way up to pre-calc/calc1 level. I'd like to sign up for a math competition in the 4th quarter of 2026 (October, November, December). The questions are the same as AMC 10/12.

I've thoroughly tried some AoPS problems from their Volume 1 book. My problem is that I get stuck or don't know how to even start the question. When I look at the solution, it jumps between steps, and I don't truly understand what's going on between each step or why we are doing that.

How should I learn from textbooks? I'm used to watching videos/lectures to truly understand, but it's kind of hard to find, and I was told it's better to rely on textbooks, especially for advanced math.

Need advice, resources, anything, thank you!
