My pet rock is bringing me so much joy

Okay this might sound super silly but I got myself a pet rock a few days ago. I named him Dwayne. He sits on my desk and honestly just having him there makes me smile every time I look at him. I even found a tiny little hat for him. It's the small things you know? Who knew a rock could be such a mood booster? Seriously made my week.

Whats the weirdest thing youve repurposed to save money?

We all do the usual stuff like making coffee at home or packing lunches. But I'm curious about the more unusual ways people have gotten creative to save a buck. Maybe it's something you fixed yourself with household items or found a completely new use for something old. What's your most unconventional money-saving hack?

My inlaws want to bring their dog on our family vacation

My husband and I planned a big family vacation for next spring. It's a beach house we rented for a week. We invited his parents and his sister's family. Everyone was really excited. This is something we saved up for. Now my mother-in-law just dropped a bomb. She assumes her new puppy is coming too.

We specifically rented a no-pets allowed house. We chose it because it had enough space for everyone and was right on the beach. It explicitly states no animals in the rental agreement. I told her this and she just waved it off saying 'oh they won't know'. My husband also tried to explain. She thinks she can just sneak the dog in and no one will notice or care. The house manager lives next door. There are also neighbors who are there year round. I can't imagine them not noticing a dog. We would lose our security deposit at minimum or even get kicked out.

My in-laws are really attached to this dog. It's a small fluffy breed. They got it a few months ago after their old dog passed away. They take it everywhere with them. My husband doesn't want to cause a fight. He just wants everyone to have a good time. I'm worried this will ruin the whole trip. We can't just uninvite them. What do we do?

Is anyone else tired of the constant your collection is too big comments

Seriously it feels like every time someone posts their collection or even just mentions owning more than a handful of bottles the comments immediately flock to asking if they even use all of them or if they have a problem. Like can we just appreciate the hobby for what it is. If someone enjoys collecting fragrances and has the means to do it why is it anyone else's business how many bottles they own. It's not like we're shaming stamp collectors for having too many stamps. Let people enjoy things. This community is supposed to be about passion not gatekeeping.

Is it fair for my new company to use my old companys reputation against me in salary negotiations?

I just got an offer for a new role. It's a significant step up from my current job at a smaller lesser-known startup. My current company is really niche. We do well but we aren't a household name. The new role is at a huge enterprise company everyone knows.

During the final salary negotiation call the hiring manager literally brought up my previous company's size. He said something like 'We know you're coming from [Startup Name] and our compensation reflects the step up in company prestige and market value you'll gain by working here. We've factored that into our initial offer.'

They offered me about 15% more than I make now. Which sounds good on paper. But it feels like they're lowballing me. My skills are definitely worth more than that. I think they're basically saying that because I'm coming from a 'smaller' company I should be grateful for any increase. Even though my work there was crucial and I developed a ton of skills.

Is this a common tactic? Should I push back harder or just accept it given the 'prestige' boost?

When did you realize you were actually good at this

I remember feeling completely overwhelmed in intern year. Every single day was a struggle. I felt like I was constantly just trying to keep my head above water. Orders were hard notes were bad presentations were awful.

Then somewhere in PGY2 things started to click. Not like a sudden revelation but more like a gradual realization. I was anticipating things. I was making good plans. Attendings were agreeing with me. It was weird. I actually felt competent.

What was that moment or period for you? When did you go from feeling like an impostor to actually knowing what you were doing?

My lender keeps changing their mind about my loan closing date

Is this normal? I'm so stressed out about this process. We're trying to buy our first home. Everything seemed to be going well.

We got pre-approved in April. Found a house we loved in May. Offer accepted. Under contract. All good.

Our initial closing date was set for June 20th. Then they pushed it to June 28th. Then July 5th. Now they are saying July 12th. Every time it's a new reason.

First it was underwriting delays. Then some document needed to be reverified. Now they are saying something about a title issue on their end. It just feels like they are making it up as they go.

My current lease ends July 15th. We already gave notice. Our landlord has new tenants moving in. We have movers booked for July 10th. This is becoming a logistical nightmare.

I called our loan officer but he just sounds annoyed. He says it's out of his hands. He says these things happen. But three delays? For a total of over three weeks?

Is there anything I can do? Or is this just how it is these days? I feel like I'm going crazy.

How do you stay consistent with a new learning habit?

I'm trying to pick up a new skill but I always start strong then drop off after a week or two. It's like I lose all motivation and just can't bring myself to do it. I have a genuine interest in the topic but sticking to it is the hard part.

I've tried scheduling dedicated time but then I just find myself procrastinating or finding excuses. I also tried setting small goals which sometimes works for a bit. How do you guys manage to keep going even when the initial excitement fades?

Are there any specific strategies or mindsets that help you stay on track? I'm open to anything that's worked for you.

Why do we always assume that if someone has a lot of material possessions they must be happy?

It feels like there's this underlying assumption in society. If you have a big house fancy car and expensive clothes people just automatically think you're living your best life.

But I know so many people who have all those things and are genuinely miserable. And then others with very little who seem truly content.

Are we just wired to chase status symbols or is there something more to it?

The weird shame of having a specific recurring dream as an adult

Okay so this is a little embarrassing but I keep having this dream. I'm back in high school and I completely forgot about a major exam. Like, I haven't been to that class all semester. The panic is so real even though it's been decades since I graduated.

It's always the same feeling of dread and scrambling to find my locker or remember my schedule. I wake up in a cold sweat sometimes. I'm a fully functional adult with a good job and a mortgage. Why is my brain still torturing me with forgotten algebra tests?

Anyone else have a weirdly specific recurring dream from their youth that just won't quit?

My J1 discovered my LinkedIn profile for J2

Okay this is a wild one. I've been OE for about 8 months now. J1 is super chill WFH and J2 is fully remote also. Everything has been going smoothly. I've kept my LinkedIn updated for J1 but for J2 I created a whole new profile with a slightly different name and picture just in case. I know it's a bit extreme but I'm paranoid.

Today I got an email from my J1 HR. It was super generic like 'we're updating our internal directory please ensure your LinkedIn profile reflects your current role and company.' I thought nothing of it. I usually keep my J1 LinkedIn profile pretty sparse anyway.

Then about an hour later my J1 boss messages me on Teams. He's like 'hey I was just looking for a contact on LinkedIn and I saw another profile that looks a lot like you. It has a different company name listed.' He even sent me a screenshot of my J2 profile.

My heart literally stopped. I played it cool though. I told him 'oh that's weird. I think that might be an old profile I forgot about. I'll take a look and delete it.' He seemed to buy it. He just said 'no worries just wanted to make sure you were aware.'

I immediately deleted the J2 LinkedIn profile. Now I'm just sitting here wondering how he even found it. Did they actively search for me? Or was it just a random coincidence? Either way that was way too close for comfort. Guess I'm going fully dark on LinkedIn now for all Js.

Looking for subreddits about really niche collections

Hey I'm really into collecting weird stuff. Not like stamps or coins. More like vintage airline barf bags or those old hotel key cards. Anything super specific and maybe a little odd. I want to see what other obscure things people collect. Bonus points if the community is active and people share their finds.

Whats going on with everyone talking about rizz?

I keep seeing this word 'rizz' pop up everywhere especially on TikTok and in memes. People are saying someone has 'rizz' or is 'rizz-ing' someone. I have no idea what it means or where it came from. Is it a new slang term for something specific? It seems like it's related to dating or flirting but I can't quite grasp the full meaning. Why is it suddenly so popular?
