5 for 5 on grafts of my 80 yr old apple tree that fell in a windstorm this past March. Grabbed a bag full of scions to see if we could make it work. They all took beautifully. Now I need to find homes for four of them.

But then I was walking around the city tonight and saw these sprouting up in every tree lawn. I guess its here now?

Thankfully far from my house but....has this always been around?

I posted a while ago about this layout, and now it's come time to set posts. But I realize I never mentioned that I have highland crosses and need to contend with horns.

They're pretty easygoing, but I want to build something worth while here for future animals.

For clarity. I have no head gate. It will be some kind of slide gate.

I was planning on a 28" chute at 5 ft high. But now I wonder if it should be 36" sloping to like 24" at the bottom and only make it like 40" tall?

Online, im mostly seeing people rig up squeeze chutes with gates and side load, but that doesn't help with loading. Maybe I leave my chute wider for passage and have the end section be a squeeze type rig for vet care?

Any recommendations or ideas would be welcomed. especially if you have photos or sketches.

Prepping for spray foam later this week and wondering if I should cut back the skip sheathing so they can foam inside the cricket too? Or just leave everything as is and act like its not.even there.

Its hard to see in the photo but there is not ply or osb in the area of the cricket. Just a big void.

New cattle owner here.

Finally putting some permanent fence up in a small pasture and want to incorporate a chute for loading and vet visits as needed. This is not to scale and I have not worked out final measurements other than a 28" chute width. We will probably use 4x4 for a back up gate.

We will only ever have 2-4 animals onsite so we do not want or need any kind of elaborate set up. They get grain occasionally so they will follow a bucket well enough.

What do we think about this layout? Will it work? Am I missing?

Tore down my severely damaged brick chimney and its time to rebuild (after repairing all this rot). I'm having a hard time finding good details for what is required and just going on what myself and buddies have seen in the past.

Two 8x12 flues in the center served the heatilator in the living room. One served the boiler in the basement.

The plan is 4" block around the bottom, switching to 6" as soon as we can. Once we cross over the fire place, we'll add a steel lintel to support 4" across the face of the house. Air gapping 1" to the house and 1" around the flues. The flues will have a wythe between each and we'll use brick ties to secure back to the house. Grout solid. Counter flashing. Concrete cap with metal rain guards. Bingo bango

Am I missing something?

Just planted this bubblegum plum a few weeks back from bare root and it's literally just a stick. Do we think I should top it now or wait until winter?

Would be nice to have a few branches develop but i know the roots are still developing.

Picked this guy up from the auction house a few weeks ago, where they finished castrating the apparently 1/2 steer 1/2 Bull we bought. Everything looked fine for a while until I see this thing descend a few days ago. He doesn't seem to mind it and there are no immediate signs of infection.

Our farm vet is coming by in a few days so I will have him take a look but he doesn't really do cows.

Im just wondering if we need to try to intervene sooner? It's also hard to justify a big vet bill and procedure for an animal destined for the freezer.

I am working on installing two perforated sump basins and pumps (Liberty 280 1/2 hp) about 20 ft apart in the basement to replace this temporary rig here. The question is, can I connect them both to this 1 1/4" line through the wall? Google says yes, but it's not ideal. What do you think? It would make life infinitely easier.

There's not really a good place to core any other holes because of this concrete wall/flashing situation on the creekside, and im not really interested in coring through the thick stone foundation.
