Squash bugs

Hello I'm going into my 3rd year of gardening and have always had terrible trouble with squash bugs. Diatomaceous earth has helped, but doesn't clear them all because they cling to the underside. Is there a better way to prevent and or kill them. Usually I'll pick the bugs off and give them to my chickens but these things hebee my jeebees.

Saddleback

We have a tree that sprouts a lot of saddleback, but were it's only mostly dead, the mushroom looks stunted. How does this affect the texture and use?

Rose starting

I'm looking to get roses for the first time, but I've heard they're difficult and when I see them in gardens they always look to be struggling. What is important to keep in mind? I'm planning on putting them in the ground with rose potting soil and using a rose fertilizer.
