Mathews v3 27

Looking at getting a used Mathews v3 27 for a good deal.

Anyone currently shooting one or have in the past ? It was incredibly light when I held it and just pulling it back the let off was incredible. It was easier to hold the v3 at 70 pounds than my chill is at 60.

Things to do for me and my 14 year old?

Long story short, in September my wife and daughter are going to a concert in state college. We figured my son and I could tag along too and just do our own thing .

Looking for any recommendations on good food spots and just activities to do in the area.

Magazines/ journals that aren’t just ads?

I’m a pretty boring / simple/ oldschool hunter. I still use my 2013 mathews chill. I hunt from a chair on the ground. I don’t use the latest and greatest camo, just warm flannels and some Walmart wrangler hiking pants.

Seems like all the hunting magazines and shows are nothing but ads for companies. I get it,
These guys are trying to make a living . But it all seems so fake and inauthentic to me.

Any magazines or journals or even just singular people out there you guys are reading that still have cool stories to tell? Im a big Donnie Vincent fan if that helps, love his documentaries.

Hunting from the ground/ on a chair

Getting back into archery after a few years away. This season I’d like to hunt from the ground , on a chair. I’m wondering if there’s anyone else on here that does this and what tips you have , what chairs you have used and like etc

Sprints

Recently ( as in this morning lol) added sprints into my kids workouts. Gonna throw them into my routine also.

I bought some simple little orange training cones. Set up 4 of them. You go to first cone, come back, second cone, come back etc. something we used to do in gym class I forget what we called them.

For those of you who are doing similar training, how many rounds have you found to be the sweet spot for fitness adaptations?

Today I had them do 4 rounds, I figure I’ll stick with that for awhile and have them try to beat their times. Then after a few months go to 5 rounds. I don’t want to go to much past that as I want this to be a high intensity but pretty sure workout . 1-2 minutes rest between rounds

First mullet bike

Recently got my first full suspension and it’s a mullet setup. Only
Have 2 rides on it so far totally 12 miles but something I’ve noticed ,

The rear tire wants to “kick out” way easier than the front and way easier compared to full 29” I’ve had in the past. Is this pretty normal? It might be a “yeah no shit” thing for alot of you haha but im very new to this.

I don’t notice any difference when going straight or even over things like rocks really if im going in a straight line. But if im cornering or doing any type of maneuvering over roots the rear likes to get loose pretty quickly.

Anyone training 7 days a week for extended time periods?

Starting to realize I’m taking on more hobbies than I can fit into 5 days. Lifting, running, mountain biking, jiu jitsu, rucking .

I can definitely just alternate stuff on different weeks but I’m also thinking screw it maybe I’ll just try for 6-7 days a week when my schedule allows and then when it’s busier I can throw in rest days

Cutting out alcohol is a superpower

Recently have decided to cut alcohol out of my life for awhile. I’ve never been a huge drinker, 4-6 drinks a week max but lately my body has just started “rejecting” it and it doesn’t matter if I only have a few, I sleep like shit and wake up feeling awful.

Over the last couple weeks I cut it down to 2 drinks a week and then this past week was zero , I’ll continue that on for who knows
How long.

Anyways, I ran my typical course by my house today . I found that despite a faster average pace than usual, my average hr was a few beats lower and also even while pushing up the climbs my hr never got to where it normally would, it was a good 10 bpm slower than it typically
Hits . I’m also noticing my legs feeling fresher than normal. It’s letting me get more runs and mountain biking in.

Has anyone else noticed this change in their runs once they stopped drinking?

Sometimes you just gotta say fuck it and ball out

The previous 2 years I tried getting into mtb. Bought Roscoe 7’s each year and just didn’t like the experience. I would ride it a couple times, sell it . Repeat . But something kept bringing me back to wanting to try it. So this year I said fuck it and balled out on a Stumpjumper fox coil. I don’t regret it one bit.

The ride experience is entirely different and it makes riding so much more enjoyable. It eats up way more stuff than the hardtails could and I don’t feel so beat up after ride .

I often see lots of posts about budget bikes and trying to be smart about the money when you’re just getting into it. But on the flip side- sometimes just sending it and buying the most bike you can afford works out too

Tempo and paused sets

How often are you guys using paused and tempos as a means to get some quality work in? Maybe you only have access to a limited amount of weight or maybe you’re trying to limit the weight you need to use? Considering doing this for RDL’s. I’m starting to get to the 275+ mark on them and they trash my lower back something fierce. Thinking of dropping a decent amount of weight and really slowing down the reps with a 3 count tempo with a pause at the bottom.

Those of you who ride in skate or bmx shoes, what are you wearing?

Coming back after a few years away. Last few pairs I had were just vans peak( which don’t seem to be made anymore) and the beefed up “skate” versions of the vans old skools . Wondering what everyone else is using

And yes, I’m aware that they make mountain biking flats but honestly they’re ugly to me and looking cool is 80% of the battle

Coil shocks on stumpjumpers

I’ve been looking at the stumpjumper fox coil edition. However I’ve seen some discussions online about how coil shocks aren’t good for
The stumpies , they apparently bottom out too easily and put too much stress on the frame which could lead to cracking?

Does anyone know if this problem has been addressed? Is there something different about the fox coil that would negate this issue?

Sidenote- I’m not some highly skilled rider that would be putting the bike through all kinds of torture .

Has anyone else tried other nature sports and came back to trail running instead?

Two years in a row I tried mountain biking in addition to running just to switch things up and give more excuse to be in the woods. I would go a few days and then be done. I’d rather run the trails.

Less equipment to haul around. MUCH cheaper. Plus the connection to nature is missing on a bike ( in my opinion ) when I’m running I’m feeling and paying attention to every bit of that trail as opposed to just plowing through it at speed. Plus I found that I’m actually faster running climbs than riding them 🤣

When are bikes truly “outdated”

It seems like the industry is constantly pushing new stuff , phasing out old stuff . Just like the car industry really ( and I guess any other)

I’m wondering at what point does a bike actually get outdated and become harder to keep up maintenance with ?

Let’s say I ball out on a brand new bike this year, can I keep it going for another 15 years? Or will it become a hassle because the tech of the components is no longer compatible with today’s frames if that makes sense .

Anyone here still shredding on “ancient” bikes? Lol

Is the Orbea Wild the right bike for me?

Considering getting into the emtb world and I’ve started doing my research on all of the different models.

For some backround , I’m a runner first. This is where I like to get 90% of my fitness gains. I also have a gravel bike for days when I want to switch it up. I really just want an emtb for fun. On rest days where i just want to have a blast on the local bike trails for an hour or so. I’d like a bike that can do most of the work for me if I want it to but also maybe some days if I’m feeling it I’ll dial back the motor and do some uphill work. Another thing is that I’d really like a “tank” type bike. I honestly don’t have much interest in getting super skillful at the sport , I don’t have much interest in jumping or obstacles . Really just want a bike that can plow over whatever without me having to worry about which lines to take.

The orbea wild seems like it would be a good choice? It’s apparently a pretty beefy bike with a strong motor . Does it sound like it would be a good fit? Any other suggestions are welcome too. I’d like to try and keep the price at 5k or less which is another reason I’m looking at the wild . I’m seeing 2025’s for 4k or slightly less.

Wondering what you guys think is a fair price for this . Owner is asking $2600 . Has a new fox 38 fork and fox dropper, sram groupset and xt brakes, deity stem and carbon bars.

I was thinking more like $1800 range or is that lowballing ?

u/Shhhhawing — 2 months ago

Checking out bikes on my local marketplace and this caught my eye. Wondering if anyone knows what year model it might be? The owner did not buy it new and didn’t ride it much. Description is as follows,

SRAM Eagle
Fox34
SantaCruz Reserve 27 carbon wheels laced to DT Swiss 240S and Hans Dampf tires.
Industry 9 stem.
WTB saddle
Dropper post and original Ti SP included.

He’s asking $2,000 . Does that seem like a fair price if it’s in good condition ?
