Botox bruise and starting a new job tomorrow

I have a dark bruise about the size of a quarter along my jawline that’s impossible to cover up, and I’m starting a new job tomorrow. I doubt anyone will say anything, but just in case - can anyone help me come up with a good story to explain it other than Botox?

Window coverings for bay windows?

I’m in an apartment that I don’t love and will only be in for a couple of years, so I don’t want to spend a ton of money on it. But it does have great bay windows, and I want something to help block some of the cold other than the standard curtain rods/long curtains.

I love Roman shades but don’t want to spend the money on anything custom - any recs?

Anyone having changes in Recology schedules?

I don’t know what the hell is going on, but they used to come by three times a week in the late morning/early afternoon for collection services. They’re now on my block every day as early as 5:30am, and they’re CRAZY loud, which is seriously effing with my sleep.

I called and they were really nice but said there are no service changes in the system, which makes no sense.

Looking for recommendations for someone to handle my taxes

I've been using the same small firm for ages but there have been some management changes, and they've gotten sloppy and unprofessional while simultaneously raising fees. I don't have anything too complicated as far as a financial situation but I definitely need someone to handle tax returns for me.

I know it's only June but I'd like to get ahead of things.

Anyone buy in bulk?

Just going off all of the posts about hauls and the scarcity of products, does anyone buy online? You have to buy a minimum of a dozen but seems like folks are doing that in person anyway 😂

I’ve searched for this topic but still need help - at pee in carpet

Sorry, cat pee, not at pee. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’ve drenched this spot in my area rug and the pad underneath several times with Natures Miracle, and I can still smell it. It isn’t on the floor boards.

I’ve tried Rocco and Roxie on other things in the past but can’t stomach the wet dog smell that won’t go away once it dries. I’ve seen BugMD and Amazon enzyme generic cleaner recommended - am I missing anything? Feeling a little desperate.

Vacation After Sun Candle Scent

I'm obsessed with Vacation's After Sun perfume, and I noticed they make a candle for the original Vacation scent — but not After Sun. They do have a 'Home Resort' line with a 'Pool Boy' scent that has similar packaging to the bottle, but I'm not sure how close the scent actually is. Has anyone tried it?

Accurate historical fiction about the Tudors that isn’t Weir or Gregory

I’m an American Anglophile and love all things British royalty. I’m in the mood for some good historical fiction, but that doesn’t take quite so much liberty with the truth the way the most popular authors (Weir, Gregory) do.

Any suggestions?

Looking for a good home veterinarian

I like my vet now, but think a home vet would be far less stressful on my cat right now vs taking him in. I'd love some quality recommendations that aren't crazy insane expensive (expensive is to be expected). TIA.

Hear me out - flannel sheets for hot sleepers

I have a friend who, like me, is entering the joys of hormonal change bliss and was waking up in a pool of sweat at 3am. She was down to her last set of clean sheets which turned out to be flannel. She said she sweat less in them than any of the cotton or bamboo sets she spent far more on.

Is this completely insane or am I missing something?

Any Politically Moderate Subs?

There are tons of subs for super left or super right ideologies about all kinds of things - anything for political Moderates for respectful discussions? Old school republicans, moderate Dems, anything in the middle?

Kensie Sorbet Blossom Scent

So I must be missing something, but I got the body butter in this month’s bag and LOVE the scent. I want to get it in a perfume or body mist, but don’t see it anywhere. They have other fragrances though; is it under a different name or do they just not have anything available?

Any Spinsters with Taste out There?

I’ve been seeing some flyers around the neighborhood advertising the Spinsters - I know of the organization, but don’t know anyone in it or what it’s like.

Curious to learn more though!

A timeline of every scandal from London Breed’s City Hall

In light of the most recent (and let's face it, do we really think this will be the last?) scandal out of Breed's administration, despite her thankfully being out of office for a year and a half, this might be of interest. It's from 2024 but gives a good snapshot.

I can’t stand audiobooks - is it just me?

I would LOVE to be able to get into audiobooks. I’m so busy and the idea of listening to a good book while doing something else (laundry, cleaning, commuting, etc) is highly appealing to me.

But for whatever reason I cannot stand the narrator. Doesn’t matter who it is. They always, always, always bother me. The diction and tone always feels somehow disingenuous or something. The worst is when they change their voice to indicate a different character - I always find it embarrassingly bad. It completely eliminates my ability to take the book seriously. To me it always comes across as really, really, exceptionally bad acting. I recognize these people are professionals so there’s no need to point that out or defend them. It’s clearly an art form that doesn’t resonate with me.

This isn’t an issue with non-fiction: biographies, history, etc. But I love fiction and to this day haven’t been able to enjoy an audio version.

I just tried desperately to get through the audio version of God of the Woods, which, by all accounts, is an engrossing, fully enjoyable novel, and I couldn’t finish it. This is about the 20th time this has happened.

So. What the hell is wrong with me? Or is anyone else having the same kind of trouble?

How many of you have been sure you were getting the job after 5+ interviews only to be rejected?

I was positive I was getting the last job I interviewed for. They moved me through the process quickly, I met with the CEO, had a final 2 hour in-person interview with the VP who told me as I was leaving that the next step was checking references. Two weeks went by with no word, then he called to say “it was a tough decision but we’re going with another candidate.”

I’m now interviewing for a job I REALLY want. They’ve definitely moved me through quickly, I’ve gotten terrific feedback so far, and I have a final panel interview giving a presentation scheduled.

Realistically, how many candidates get to that stage? I guess I’m just trying to prepare myself for being rejected again but it helps when I have a better sense of what I’m up against.
