Researching Rusian and Guey as the first names of early Alabama pioneers.
My ancestors include Rusian Burrell Riley and Guey Bernard Bailey. Early Alabama pioneers.
Does anyone know where these names came from? I am completely stumped.

Well, it finally happened. This center made the newa because a daycare teacher abused a 3 year old. A parent witnessed it and they called DHR and the police.
Small Wonders is owned by Eddie's Pawn Shop. There are four or five of these pawn shops in the area. The director spends most of her time running her pawn shop, she has family members "managing" the daycare center.
This center has broken glass on the playground. The big gym right next door is rented out for adult parties so they smoke and drink beer on the playground. The parties are scheduled on weekends when the center is closed. They leave the trash behind.
The playground is dangerous for young children.
Dangerous commercial grade wood Teeter-Totters and an old rusty steel Merry-Go-Round. Equipment for older kids, not kids two-four years old. The gate is too high. Kids crawl under it and they can run zo the busy highway.
There are no restrooms in the Pre-K classrooms. The restooms are out in the hall. When 20 kids ages 3-4 are in one big room with one teacher, how do kids go use the restroom? Kids will head over across the hall to the restroom and then the run down the hall. The young and defiant kids will run out the EMERGENCY EXIT! No door alarm so they get away undetected. The center faces a busy highway and kids have made a run for the road.
Since there's an investigation ongoing, maybe the center will be sanctioned. It's time for this business to be remodeled for safety and staffed appropriately. Right now, it's a prison for kids and no one has been brave enough to take on the family who run this place along with Eddie's Pawn Shops.
I am retired Episcopal School Pre-K. I now work for a very large licensed pre-k and toddler program. My concern is with the owners. They own a chain of pawn shops in South Alabama. Eddie's Pawn Shop. They also run group foster homes. The foster kids stay in daycare most days in the summer. The same people fostering the kids receive money for keeping the kids in daycare all day.
The center, "Small Wonders" in Grand Bay, Alabama is now being investigated by DHR. A 70 year old long time employee physically abused a child. Caught on video and witnessed by a parent.
I'm wondering if the investigation will go anywhere. The owners have powerful political connections.
I've reported lots of dangers around the center, but nothing has changed.
I'm probably going to resign since the center has so many problems. Their playground is dangerous. There are broken beer bottles and cigarette butts on the playground. The center owns a big gym right next door and they rent it for parties. The party attendees stand over on this side to smoke.
Kids can crawl under the wooden gate and they end up out by the busy highway.
I'm stunned that the owners won't address these concerns.
Thoughts? This should be a CNN news story!
The new chip cards are reducing incidents of skimming in Alabama. Our EBT clients received their new chip cards in January. All old swipe cards have been disabled.
At my store we've stopping letting customers punch in EBT card numbers on the debit reader. They must bring their new chip card with them. The state is auditing the manual entry of EBT cards and they're issuing fines.
No Alabama stores should let these customers punch in numbers that are different from the ones listed on the busted up EBT card! The store doesn't want to face hefty fines for noncompliance.
So many stores just let the customers punch in their card numbers without any kind of proof that the card in hand is the account they're using.
Now that's summer, we have customers visiting from other states who want to "punch in their numbers". A woman with a beat up Mississippi EBT card wanted to punch in her EBT card numbers. A manager said he'd punch in the numbers but he would give her privacy to enter her pin. She didn't let him do that! She said NO and left her groceries!! She probably had a set of numbers in a text message. Or an earbud with someone on the phone. The beat up Mississippi EBT card was just a prop to gain access to the manual entry feature on the debit reader.
Retail Guide for EBT transactions. The customer must be present. The cashier types in the card numbers. Do not allow the customer to type in the card numbers. That's where the trafficking and theft happens.
I was working the cigarette register at the grocery store. This older man was sharing bible verses with the younger male next in line. He may have been part of an AME church. Really evangelical. He asked the younger man, "How many kids you sire." The younger man (mid 20's) said he got six kids. I wasn't sickened about that. Women aren't well bred sows
Does your store allow customers to punch in their card numbers and pin? What is the company policy? Thank you for the intel. Researching something for an ongoing investigation involving manual entry of EBT card numbers.
Just wondering what life is like when you decide to have just one child.
The new chip embedded EBT cards have helped reduce the theft of EBT benefits in Alabama. These cards are difficult to skim. Convenience stores are not having issues with skimmers! Clients are keeping their cards locked and the cards won't process out of state transactions. They can be unlocked for out of state purchasing, but many Alabamians don't travel that much.
Every state needs chip EBT cards. I hope the other states follow suit and upgrade to chip cards soon!
The grocery stores allow customers to type in EBT card numbers that do not belong to them. The customers traded stolen goods for EBT purchased food. They go to the cash register and flash a busted up EBT card to the cashier. The cashier sets up the transaction as hand key EBT. The customer is wearing an ear bud and the person on the phone is reading them their EBT card numbers and pin. The transaction finishes. The person on the phone says, "You done? Send me a pic of the receipt." After confirning the sale is made, the person on the phone locks their EBT card. Then the customer with the groceries drops off the stolen make-up, stolen Dove soap, and the other items they agreed upon. TRAFFICKING! The EBT card holder might be low on food funds, so they just steal it at self check.
Grocery stores need to STOP allowing customers to type in their card numbers. If they really do have a damaged EBT card, the cashier types in the numbers. The customer is given privacy to enter their pin. After the transaction is finished, they can lock their card with the connectEBT app or the EBTedge app. No one at the store is going to be able to steal their account numbers. The cashier has no access to the pin. The cashier can't steal funds from a locked card.
IF THIS MAKES YOU MAD THEN TELL YOUR CONGRESSMAN! They can tell the grocery store managers they need to follow USDA policy. STOP ALLOWING CUSTOMERS TO PUNCH IN THE CARD NUMBERS! THE CASHIER TYPES THEM IN FROM THE PHYSICAL CARD!!! EBT card holders cannot legally trade their benefits. Especially when it involves stolen merchandise!
Thank you for the chance to vent!
I bumped a button in my app and now it's Spanish. How do I flip my app back to English? I do not speak Spanish.
DOES THIS MEAN THE CASHIER TYPES IN THE NUMBERS?
Hey! I used to work for DG. Four self checks at a big store. There was a flaw in the system. If some attempted to swipe their damaged EBT card, it triggered a response: "Card error, manually enter card numbers?" The customer could then punch in their numbers and pin. No cashier needed to approve. People with an earbud could type in numbers that did not match the card. The person on the phone would be telling them the numbers. It was really wierd. They had A card but it wasn't THE card. Trafficking?
Tell me this glitch has been fixed at DG
All handkey goes through a manned cash register now? Some verification for damaged EBT cards?
