Is it weird I’m loving the SDR role?

It could just be my company (won’t namedrop but phenomenal company to work for), and it could be that we’re PLG so it’s not like I’m cold calling and hearing “no” 8 hours a day. But there’s so many nice dopamine hits that make the job fun.

Someone picks up my call? Dopamine hit. Book a discovery call? Dopamine hit. One more added to quota? Dopamine hit. Get a godlike inbound lead? It’s like opening a pack of pokemon cards and getting the chase rare.

Everyone tells me the job is really hard, and I can definitely see it being hard to hit quota and there’s always so much more to learn and improve on. But there’s genuinely so many more miserable and harder jobs I could be doing that I actually feel energized and excited about my work.

Also, yes I have ADHD and I’m on vyvanse for it.

Congrats to the winner of Sajam Slam!

Team Shadow Isles Spectres:

Diaphone
Zane
Wooliewoolz
Zyzx
Frodan
Deathy

Was a great and fun event to watch. A lot of great improvement from the players and hope many of the new players continue to play the game. I don’t know if I completely agree with all the seeding. I think a player could be overseeded just because they’ve played the game for much longer, but it doesn’t take into account enough actual skill level/rank which leads to more imbalanced matches. But I know choosing/seeding/teaming up players is an extremely hard job and I commend Sajam and everyone else who helped him get it done.

Watching some of the live coaching was both fun and insightful (I really enjoyed Sonicfox’s backseat heavy live coaching but probs not for everyone), but it also heavily highlighted how much I dislike the neutral in this game sometimes. Oftentimes, the callout was not to go in, don’t engage, just back off and set up.

I think if I was watching the same gameplay without all the voices in a single call communicating, it wouldn’t have been nearly as enjoyable a watch. It’s a weird dilemma you’ll see even in rushdown designs like Ekko and Akali where despite their intended rushdown natures, the strongest thing they can be doing generally is moving away from the opponent.

In any case, looking forward to the next 2XKO slam, would also love either a Guilty Gear Strive or Marvel Tokon slam.

Someone at my company was put on a PIP months ago. They just made AE today

Obviously this isn’t the norm but being at a company that actually treats its employees like people makes a world of a difference.

Thoughts on Day 1 of Sajam Slam?

Anyone impress or disappoint you? Which duos were most entertaining?

Day 1 was largely a learning day where points gained would be least impactful.

Thresh seems to be quite popular, and I saw at least one streamer become heavily depressed because of him.

Also shoutout Sajam saying he went out of his way to learn Caitlin before the event in case he had to teach the champ and now she’s the only champ not being played in the event.

The Climb feedback: the game should make you feel good for winning a run

I did see this feedback in the official thread where someone mentioned needing to show progress after a run, but I wanted to talk about it more in depth here.

I think they could take notes from a game like Slay the Spire 2.

As of right now, the run just ends and you’re back at the menu. It’s very anticlimactic. There should be something appearing on my screen showing what new shiny thing I unlocked so Im like ooh nice, I want to keep playing to unlock more shiny new thing. And then ending with like a summary of my build so I can screenshot it and show it to my friends and be like “I just got the god run.” And then I should be able to see some stats specifically for The Climb like my most chosen augments.

I genuinely think if they perfected this gamemode, it could easily be popular where people discuss tierlisting champs and augments specifically in the Climb.

Despite Riot doing everything right recently, it sucks my friends refuse to try the game because of the core gameplay

And while that’s their right, it is disappointing given they were interested in the game until they actually experienced it.

Literally as soon as any combo starts, they start shitting on the game. My one buddy asked “So that whole thing is true? He just has to watch you for 10 seconds?” And when I told him yeah, thats how combos work, he was like “that’s just a bad game then.”

I genuinely think they would love the concept of The Climb in a fighting game given they’re huge roguelike enjoyers, but they can’t get past being in a combo for more than 5 seconds.

They even acknowledge the game looks really cool and they’re long time league fans. When one of my friends saw the blitzcrank trailer, he said “So is this game any good, Blitz looks sick.” And then they told him how combos work and he was like “yeah Im good.”

Interesting insight from a popular non-FGC streamer/newcomer to the game (Fuslie)

For context, Fuslie (or just Leslie) is a pretty big variety streamer who averages probably over 4k viewers across Twitch and Youtube, and is largely known for her wholesome brand/community, natural comedic timing, and subpar gaming skills. Despite doing relatively well in the AT&T tournament, she’s still a beginner and recently just climbed out of Aspirant into Iron.

While the 2XKO portion of AT&T ended, Fuslie recently booted up the game on stream and played ranked for over an hour. When someone in chat said, “I thought 2XKO was already done,” this was her response:

“Yeah I was just playing cuz it was pretty fun. Like it’s really engaging. Like I don’t know how you can be bored and play 2XKO. Like 2XKO is a game that it’s like impossible to be bored during it. I’ll say it has a kinda high barrier to entry. Like the first 15 hours were miserable. I was having no fun. No fun whatsoever.”

Another interesting thing is that most beginners/casuals want to stick to juggernaut, but she only started having fun after she picked up Caitlin and started playing her alongside Darius.

I think it’s an interesting impression because clearly, there is fun to be had for non fighting game players once things click a little, but there’s also a very evident barrier to even having fun in the first place that seems hard to overcome, even compared to other fighters.

I personally think her barrier was largely overcome when she got to play longer sets in private lobby against her friends.

While Riot is trying to incentivize playing with friends via pushing duos, I definitely think there’s space to explore incentivizing newcomers to try the game and casuals to play regularly by rewarding playing private lobbies with friends. And no, I dont just mean give more exp. I mean something actually marketably enticing to someone who hasn’t/barely played that would make them go to their friends and go “yo maybe we should actually try this.”

Also unrelated, rewarding cosmetics people actually want (yes a whole ass skin dont be stingy) is such an easy way to increase twitch viewership during events.

What is the go-to Shark Scale tournament combo?

Been away from beyblade for a long time. I’m not asking what you’re favourite/spicy combo. I’m talking like the Wizard Rod 1-60H equivalent.

Despite all the streamers who tried 2XKO for the first time this week who very vocally despised the game, I think getting one more person to fall in love with fighting games is a success for Riot and the FGC

I just watched Ludwig steal top 4 at the AT&T tournament without anti airing once

Bro really did Street Fighter strike/throw his entire way through the tournament. Even way worse players than him were anti airing on reaction but bro refused to do it. I gotta give credit where it’s due: he might not know how to play the game but he definitely knows how to play the player. Idk wtf they teach in Journalism at ASU but apparently rock paper scissors is a required course.

Watching Lily, Ludwig, Squeex and Fuslie play each other in a private lobby shows where Riot nailed the casual experience with friends

They played a mix of 1V1s rotating people out while the others spectated on screen, then played 2V2, then back to 1V1 while Lily coached Squeex on the training mode at the same time. It really was just like hanging out with the squad in the same room getting games in, even though everyone was online.

They spoke highly of the pulse mode where it was nice to just be able to do easy combos. Watching Squeex 1V1 Fuslie while Lud and Lily coached in real time, and then gassing each other up whenever they successfully anti aired was just good vibes. Fuslie said it was the most fun she’s had playing a fighting game and played the game for like 7 hours to keep playing with friends, despite trying to end stream long before to sleep.

I think the new player experience is most frustrating when you kinda understand what’s going on and you’re grinding ranked by yourself. The flipside is Jakenbake was losing his mind grinding ranked in plat whenever something BS happened or something didn’t work the way it felt like it should. Which let’s be fair, is all the time in this game.

How many of you regret the program you chose?

I feel like most of the biomed students and even some CS students I know regret their program, but I wonder if many of you in other programs regret your choice.

How many of you graduated and are still looking for work?

And when did you graduate and how long have you been looking for work?

I graduated from business management majoring in GMS and got really lucky at an amazing company in a tech sales role with high growth, but like 90% of my peers I saw are either looking for work or are working a dead end job.

Almost none of the AT&T Cup streamers are practicing 2XKO and it feels like no one wants to play it

I’m not a 2XKO hater btw. I play the game for better or for worse.

For people who dont know, theres a very big annual streamer tournament happening where they go through a gauntlet of 4 games, each game lasting a week. And for games like League and CS, the streamers practice pretty extensively with their teammates.

It seems like most people dread even touching 2XKO. Previous years had SF6 and more people put in the effort for whatever reasons. But for 2XKO, it seems almost no one is inspired enough to put in the effort to learn the game.

There are a small handful of streamers playing. Doublelift will win the tournament because he’s disgustingly far beyond the skill of everyone else. Lilypichu has the most hours in game and will almost certainly place decently well. Jakeandbake and Tyler1 have fighting game experience and will likely also place solidly. Also shout out to Myth and Fuslie for putting in some effort even though it’s looking rough.

Everyone else just gave up though and is doing anything else, even though they put a bunch of effort in the other games like League. I hate feeling this way, but it feels like people don’t wanna play it cuz non fgc ppl dont find the game fun.

Got a job as a new grad with 0 internships, 0 referrals, and a shit GPA!!!

I’ve already started in the role for a bit and this company is such a fucking unicorn that I get excited to go into the office. Role is in tech sales doing B2B SaaS at a global medium sized company. Hybrid 3 days a week in office/2 remote, incredible work/life balance,I love my team and my manager is super accommodating/understanding. Some of the best onboarding I could’ve imagined compared to similar roles at other companies.

The benefits are nuts. 25 days paid vacation, 10 paid sick/mental rest days, absolute top tier health/dental coverage with no deductible and a $700 wellness account. I get a new iPhone17, macbook air and sony ANC headphone. Super nice office where they have infinite snacks (I go off on the free endless clif bars) and they provide lunch everyday you’re in office. We got a games room, gym, private room to rest, etc. We even got a fully paid for bar if you want to drink a cold brewski on the patio.

Genuinely can’t believe my life right now with how cooked I thought I was. I hope the rest of you find that perfect role too.

Got a job as a new grad with 0 internships/referrals/bad GPA at what feels like a unicorn of a company

I already know this is gonna get downvoted to hell but this isn’t to gloat, I just can’t believe how lucky I got.

Job is in tech sales doing B2B SaaS at a medium size series C startup (3 branches globally, feels too big to call a startup really and they're more than 10 years old). Phenomenal work culture and work + life balance. Hybrid 3 days a week in a beautiful office (games room, gym, relaxation room) + 2 days remote. Insane benefits including 25 days paid vacation, 10 paid sick/mental rest days, very extensive health/dental coverage with no deductible, $700 wellness fund and my company provided phone and laptop is an iphone 17 and a macbook air + choice of airpods or the new Sony headphones. The company provides you lunch everyday you're in office and we have a fully paid for bar if you wanna drink some beers on the patio after work. Not to mention endless snacks (been abusing the infinite clif bars). The company also made top 100 SME employers in Canada and top employers in the GTA. The company is also flying me out to Europe this summer for a fun week long event.

The onboarding has been fantastic due to having so much structure and tools to help you learn. My team and sales manager have been incredibly friendly and supportive. PIP doesn’t mean they let you go. One person got put on a PIP months ago and they’re still here and receiving lots of support.

My salary is is between $65000-80000 so not insane for a first job out of uni, but there's a lot of growth potential in the field and it's way less grindy than tech sales at other start ups because their sales strategy doesn’t involve you cold calling non-stop 8 hours a day. Plus they do 5% RRSP contribution with no matching required and people in the company get promoted pretty quickly from what I've seen.

As a new grad, I thought I was cooked:

• 0 internships
• 0 referrals
• Terrible GPA
• Business Management Degree from mid tier school

Interview process was five rounds over a month including a logic puzzle + personality test, a business case assignment, and three interviews.

Not interested in giving advice because I know I got extremely lucky. I think I got the first interview cuz I scored in the 98th percentile of their screening test. I also tailored my resume to the job post using AI as everyone should. Then for the rest, I just practiced and prepped like crazy. I've won multiple case competitions during uni, so the business case assignment was fine for me although a lot of work. The main experience I leveraged was being the leader of a for-profit student-led consulting firm where I handled client acquisition. Probably the biggest thing going for me is I've always been very well liked by everyone I meet and I'm great at talking to people and being personable. I could tell the sales manager liked me a lot and she's told me she's been my biggest champion since meeting me for the first time. I also had a coffee chat with one of the SDRs but this was already pretty late into the interview process, but it might've helped solidify their decision. That and I got started on Vyvanse which made me absolutely lock in. But yeah, glad to finally be able to start my life.

Yes, the company is still hiring, but I won't name drop them to not expose myself. If you look at Sales Development Representative postings, you'll likely come across it and with the amount of info I provided, you can probably easily connect the dots. My sales manager told me they are VERY selective with their candidates hence the lengthy process. I was made aware before I received my offer that they had another candidate in the final round as well, but it seems I was the only hire so take that as you will.

Am I really gonna suck at this game?

The game looks cool and I have some friends that are crazy excited to try it cuz visuals + marvel, and they're already talking shit about how they're gonna be better than me cuz they're a bit better than me at smash (which we're all pretty solid at). I'm not going into this game as a complete fighting game newbie. I'm masters in 2XKO and can make it out of my pool in TNS and I'm diamond in GGST with a 70+% win rate on puddle.farm right now out of like 70 games since coming back to it and have beaten known players like Sajam in tower. My friends on the other hand have literally never even played a fighting game but they assume because Tokon will have simple inputs, their smash fundamentals will carry them. They know I play 2XKO but I think they assume my rank is like the equivalent of being in Elite Smash which means nothing in that game. Am I missing something here or is Tokon just that different from the games I play? It's just crazy they think I somehow end up in the lower ranks of this game getting folded by my friends who've never experienced trying to determine when it's their turn.
