Suggestion on making "Suggested Mods" better!

Hi everyone, and admins!

I'm very keen on taking mods and reaching out to members directly, and the suggested mods tool is useful!
However, I had some suggestions on this can be made better:

  1. Allow filters: I want to specifically filter a certain type of user. Maybe account age, standing with mods (removed content, bans, etc.), verified email/2FA, community comment and post karma, etc. This helps us choosing in
  2. Integrate with "Recruiting": Many times, I have received moderation requests from users who have less than 50, sometimes even 0 community karma. I genuinely don't want such users to apply in the first place. And, I don't want to be suggested them as mods as well (sometimes I get users with 100-200 karma, when we are typically more open to those with 1000 karma, as per our community requirements).
  3. Top community karma accounts: Maybe if I can get a top 10 - top 25 community karma (non-mod) list, that would be useful for me to understand too. For a 135k member community, such users are generally a higher consideration for mod positions than others.

I feel these are more useful for us, to evaluate better candidates for tomorrow, and make it easier for us to recruit mods.

Thank you, and let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

Open to transfer subreddits r/fuckculturecircle and r/culturecirclesupport

I initially took these subreddits as my motivation for raising awareness regarding culture circle. I've had friends who are scammed and thought that I can cultivate them to have wider impact.

Unfortunately, with the subs I moderate and my offline commitments, managing and running the subreddit is not meeting my expectations.

Hence I'm considering applications for the 2 subs together. The condition being that you must strictly not be affiliated to culture circle in any way, and must be strictly consumer positive. Brownie points if you have been scammed by them previously. Brownie points if you moderating similar themed subreddits.

To apply please do not use your alt accounts, instead use a main account so that I can consider your application properly. If you do have alt where you moderate subreddits, please let me know so. I promise to protect your confidentiality.

Please send a modmail to either of the subreddits with the title "Open to Mod" along with a short text on how it makes you the right candidate to lead.

Thank you!

That one time I almost door-to-door sold my way into a food giant

(For lurking journalists who still have some ethics - don't try to make it more masaledar than it already is. And please credit or link my post)

My flair tells people I was flashy analyst who whizzed his way through excel files and numbers for a living. While that's... eh... partially true... it does end up hiding what it took me to get there.

I have been fluctuating between introversion and extroversion (read: ambivert) for a while. When in college, I decided to pick up some internships that would look good on my resume, while also assuming they'd solve for my 'corporate exposure'. Every quarter or 2, I'd be working for some firm on the other. My college timings were early morning, which allowed me to pickup work post college hours, usually by mid afternoon around.

By the end of 2nd year, I had worked with a few firms of great reputation in my industry, much to my parent's approval. While I was contemplating on my next move, I came across a Linkedin post from my school senior who was looking for a young kid who could work in his startup. "Oh, I know him. He is familiar. He will definitely interview me due to our shared alumni." and I hit "Apply" without thinking. Afterall, which recruiter ever opens LinkedIn EasyApply.

Only this time, someone accidently decided to.

I had an interview, where I pitched myself and what I could bring to the table. Somewhat convinced with our conversation, they decided to give me a shot and sent me an offer letter.

"Dad, I got an internship offer. It's from a startup my school senior is working on. They want to sell some edible consumables, and I felt this is new and refreshing. They'll pay ₹2500/month + conveyances + sales commissions"

"What? No, this is career suicide. You've been working at great firms, which paid you more. This is nothing compared to that. It will look bad on your CV, don't do it."

'C'mon, those were boring desk jobs. You've had interns in your firm, you know what it's like. I've been working on meaningless excels, and warming chairs. You can't give me real work because I'm not an employee, and too inexperienced otherwise. This is at least something different."

"I don't approve of it."

"I know you won't, that's what makes it even better. I'll do it irrespectively. I'm young and I want to explore, I can restart a career anytime I want."

Yup, it is fun to rebel. Don't recommend it always though.

So, I decided to get to work. A part of my work included generating new clients for the business, for which I had to go to places and pitch the product.

Luckily, I remember how there was a food district near my ex-employer's office. I decided to hit all relevant restaurants, cafes, bars there to generate business. Instead of calling them like a sane human, I decided to knock their doors, quite literally. I went to every single HoReCa (Hotel, Restaurant, Cafe - a term used by hospitality for such establishments), went to the most important looking person in the place, and asked "Can I meet the manager? I have something for them."

Some gave in, most called me crazy. Few shoo-ed me off like a stray dog (lovely).

In some much more upscaled ones, I went first as a potential guest, had a look at the menu, saw a gap they can fulfil, and then pitched that exactly to the manager. "my product can give you xyz, which is missing from your menu" or "[your competing brand from across the street] said they were keen and were negotiating commercials and quantities with us already" and eventually my business card pile started to line up.

Even in places I didn't make a deal, I got the manager's number, and in the good books of some. To the point, where my colleague in last employer remarked "How the f* do you know the managers for so many places?" ah, what to tell you...

One day, when I was looking on Google Maps for my next prey, I stumbled upon the headquarters of a food giant. It was a walkable distance from where I stood, in a swanky corporate office building.

To this day, I don't know what occurred to me, but I decided to hit them. Was it "I have nothing to loose, I'm just a kid" or my rebellious teen spirit getting a hold of me, or my fascination for non-haunted uncharted territories, I have absolutely no clue why, but I just went for it.

I reached the corporate office, where the decoy security guard asked my purpose of visit.

After a suspiciously 5 second long "uhhh..." I said "job interview".

I expected them to ask whom, and I was wondering if I should frantically search LinkedIn for a name on the pretext of checking my em-

"Okay, just sign up and you can go"

Phew. Heavy sigh of relief, while my heart was pumping a river of blood per second.

I kept a poker face till I reached the reception, where the REAL guard asked me my purpose of visit.

Too scared of the theatrics I did a few floors below, I blurted out the real reason.

"That's not how it works. You can't just meet someone like this. Do you even know their name?"

"No but they can actually benefit from my products-"

After a few rounds of tussle, the guard was ready to evict me.

However, one curious employee, hearing the commotion outside came to ask me what I'm doing.

I pitched it to them, with all my might and strength, and hacks and tactics, with everything I got. After 200 long seconds, he says:

"Wait here."

This is it. This is how I go to jail. This is how I end. My dad was right. I'm an idiot. I am done. I am finished. I really am a fai-

"Our head will meet you in 5 mins at the meeting room down the aisle."

No way. No f* way. I pinched myself 3 times. The guard was partially baffled, and made a despiteful grunt, much to my cheer.

I made frantic calls to my founder, whom I didn't even inform that I was planning this because I thought it was impossible.

After a dozen missed calls, he screamed

"Dude it's lun-"

"I am meeting the head of [food giant] in the next 5 mins, I'll send you the G Meet link, please join."

"Wait, what, how did you-"

"I'll share all that later, just get ready for the call."

We did finally pitch him the product, and discussed commercials and everything. After the meeting, the head shared his number with me to discuss the details later.

Once we were done, I walked out of the office, the building, and in peak summer heat, I sat outside the gates on the pavement, just trying to make sense of what just happened.

For reasons unknown to me, the deal didn't go through. But I absolutely loved what I did.

Lot of GenZs my age do not want to get engaged in door-to-door sales at all. And I understand how pressurising it can be. I am grateful to my founders who gave me ample room to fail and let me live in peace with a poor conversion rate. I know that not a lot of people have good experiences with sales.

But I highly recommend young GenZs to try (healthy) door to door sales, especially with someone who is comfortable for you to fail.

I think that experience alone made me more comfortable to make mistakes, to take risks.

Forever grateful 🙏🏼

TLDR: Sold some edibles for an upcoming startup, ended up not-so-legally knocking doors of a food giant. Almost got a deal, but it shook away the fear of selling from me)

This is a hidden gem. Excess Cinema is 'In Other Words' meets 'Dodford'

Great allusions, and beautiful storytelling. This is not dogmatic, but analytical and truly philosophical.

Although they are a bit loose with spoilers, but actually good storytelling.

Thank you Times of India for recognising our efforts.

This is pretty much the raison d'être of the subreddit.

A few years ago I was struggling to find genuine advice about my potential employer. Glassdoor locked me outside with a login request, AmbitionBox was Naukri trying to use the accounts to get tea on the firms and then charge them accordingly, and LinkedIn... oh man don't get me started. It was AI slop, daddy's little prince/princess sharing career advice when they've never worked an honest, accountable day in their life (read: r/LinkedInLunatics ) and facebook but your career circle knew you had to fight some D2C brand for a stupid refund.

I'm glad we are making genuine impact, I'm glad we are being trusted by people to share. And it was not easy. Countless times we have been requested or threatened by employers to delete posts. But we don't back down. Because we value a real story over anything.

My simple objective has to always be place where people can come for honest, AI-slop free advice for help. Share stories and genuinely nurture a community for all those corporate employees who take a job to fund home loans EMIs, ambitions, families, and care for loved ones. It is not easy, which is why you're not alone :)

Pat ₹100 extra for delivery partners during peak times now

I don't see this as a problem because this properly compensates delivery persons at such times. It was heavy rain in Delhi and they are deserving of extra pay (assuming it really does go to them)
